I’m a huge fan of anything paranormal and I always have been. I get super excited whenever they have those Twilight Zone Marathon days and anything ghost or vampire related will always attract my attention.

My interests are varied but aside from writing, I’m most excited about traveling. I’m extremely fortunate to have been able to live in England and Scotland, both places really having a profound effect on my books.

Thanks for checking out my books and I hope you enjoy them! Happy Haunting!

So hard to review anthologies! So I am just gonna say a few words, sentences about each short story.

A Ghoulish Valentine by H.P. Mallory:
Dulcie O'Neil can't help her attraction to Knight Vander, much though she tries to fight her feelings. When she begrudgingly accepts his invitation to dinner and a movie, she can't imagine her evening will be derailed by a cemetery full of hungry ghouls and one incredibly sexy man.

They fight evil ghouls while on a date. Dulcie and Knight seem ok, and the world is interesting. I did like that before just rushing in to fight she stopped to see to that her clothes offered protection. Good girl.

Cat Fight by Zoe Winters:
Cat Fight takes place in Zoe Winters' "PretVerse". Greta is a cat therian (shifter). She's been involved with Dayne, a local sorcerer since she sought his protection from her murderous tribe. After a fight, Greta shifts into cat form and refuses to come back out.

I liked Greta, and Dayne. Not much happened since it was short but I did enjoy when she went all mad and refused to shift back, even after he tried his best. So short and cute, and it did make me wanna read how they met in the first place. Which I can since this novella happens after book 1.

Impulse Control by Susan Bischoff:
In the world of the Talent Chronicles, kids born with supernatural powers are taken from their families and forced into government research facilities called State Schools. At one such school, a group of Talents must work together to stop a dangerous experiment that's already killed two of their peers and threatens others. If they're caught they face Detention, and Detention at a State School has a whole different meaning.

This was a YA story. Kids put in schools, never to see their families again. Sure I understand people being afraid of people with talents but I would expect some sort of outrage. What a horrible world, I hope those kids get out.

Wild Passion by Lori Brighton:
James is a treasure hunter intent on collecting a deadly, priceless statue. Then he meets Adelaide, a stubbornly beautiful and mysterious woman who knows more about the statue than she admits. Suddenly, James is tempted to give up everything for the one treasure he can't seem to own ... Adelaide.

This one deals with events in Wild 1 and 3, but it works fine on its own too. I liked Adelaide, she did what she had too, and I am sure she and James are gonna have some great adventures.

A Fairytale Ending by M.T. Murphy:
An unlucky actress discovers that there is no good and bad when it comes to vampires and werewolves, only bad and worse.

I did like it in the beginning, but then came a sad and depressing end that ruined the whole thing for me. So I did not like it.

Blind Sight by Kait Nolan:
Isla's ability as a Seer has made her a life-long captive of a paranormal crime lord. Fae assassin, Ransom, offers her a chance at escape, but when she touches his hand she sees only blood, horror, apocalypse. What reason can Ransom have for wanting to rescue her, and can she possibly trust a man who deals in death?

I liked this one. Seemed like a nice world and I wanted to know more, and I would read more too.

The Sacrifice by Toni LoTempio:
After a chance meeting with the mysterious Alfred Barstow, Jennifer is swept off her feet by his whirlwind courtship of her, so much so that she accepts his proposal of marriage. Leaving her boyfriend Peter behind, she heads off to start a new life in California, unaware there's more to Alfred than meets the eye - and a sinister plot behind his proposal. The Sacrifice is a story about what happens when the man of your dreams turns out to be your worst nightmare...and then some!

It was a good story, though one thing was a bit far-fetched. She went away, her ex was sad and decided to look up her new man, and then he realized they were evil vampires..really, I would just have thought she was high on passion.

Until the Breaking of the Day by Daniel Arenson:
The Underground. A realm of flame, blood, and knives in the dark. When its prince returns from exile, a young demon girl will learn his secrets.

Omg! This story was my fav of all the stories in this anthology. I seriously need to read more by this authot!! Awesome story.

If You Leave by Stacey Wallace Benefiel:
Despite their devotion to one another, Gabrielle and Jorge have been living separate lives. That is, until Gabrielle's life ends. Reunited and it feels so...complicated?

It was the last one and I fear I did not pay as much attention as I could have.

Conclusion:

I had only read one author before so the rest were new to me, and one thing is for sure, I need more Arenson!!! Trust me, that world was pure gold. All in all, an interesting anthology with a lot to offer, Paranormal YA, paranormal historical, some ass-kicking and cool new worlds.

I've been working on reading this short story anthology for quite some time. This was sort of a mixed bag -- some I really liked, some were not really my style. All in all, it was a good read. I'm not so good at reviewing short stories as a big review, so here's the breakdown.

A Ghoulish Valentine by H.P. Mallory: This was the story I wanted this book for. I love the Knight/Dulcie chemistry and this was an adorable installment in the series. Poor Knight can’t seem to get a break and it was fun to watch.

Cat Fight by Zoe Winters: I was unfamiliar with this author when I picked this book up. This story was a short but sweet little comedy about a man who is in the middle of a fight with his cat shifter wife. Hilarity ensues.

Impulse Control by Susan Bischoff: I’ve also never read anything from this author before, but the story that she draws upon is really interesting. The world it takes place in is one from the Talent Chronicles (the author’s series) where superpowered kids are in a school together that is run by the government. There is some adorable YA romance that manages to get squeezed into this action packed story.

A Fairytale Ending by M.T. Murphy: This was one of the darker stories in the bunch. A waitress is trying to eek out a living while inadvertently throwing herself into a werewolf/vampire power struggle. The poor mortals always lose in that situation.

Blind Sight by Kait Nolan: Such a tease! Normally I don’t complain about short stories wanting me to read more, but this one literally ended in the middle of a scene! Sheesh. I immediately searched for other books by the author (the point of this tease, I guess) and it looks like a longer version is already on my kindle (from a free book). I’ll stop complaining now. This is the beginning of a story about Isla, a seer, and her unlikely rescuer, Ransom. The world appears to be contemporary, maybe, and filled with paranormals and magic. Isla is being kept as a fake daughter of some mob-type guy, who I guess warrants being free of. There wasn’t much further development, but it really did suck me in. I wish we got to see what happened with Ransom.

Wild Passion by Lori Brighton: I recently fell in love with Lori Brighton in her Mind Readers series. This isn’t set in the same story, but was a good read either way. It follows James and Adelaide as they bicker and flirt over a piece of treasure. If this was the start of a bigger story, I’d pick it up just to get more. James was a great character and we watched him grow a lot, even in this short story.

The Sacrifice by Toni LoTempio:
This story was very similar to old Dracula tales, with a twist (and a contemporary edge). Jennifer leaves her long time boyfriend suddenly for Alfred, who turns out to be controlling her with dark magic to get her to be his sacrifice. This was a pretty fleshed out story and it was interesting enough to have me breezing through it.

Until the Breaking of the Day by Daniel Arenson:
This was another story where I was a severe disadvantage by not knowing any backstory or previous history with this type of world. Fantasy is not really my thing, but by the end of the story I wanted to read more. From what I gather, this took place in a hell-like world where a bat-like woman is forced to marry a supposedly harsh ruler.

If You Leave by Stacey Wallace Benefiel:
Tied into the world I know from the Zellie Wells books, this continued Gabrielle's story. It was bittersweet and short, showing how Jorge copes with Gabrielle's death (and afterlife). I love this author, so it was no surprise that I loved this little gem.

Cat Fight, Zoe Winters - 2 stars This was whatever. Felt kind of pointless. Maybe if I had read the novella the characters are from (Kept) than I would have been a little more interested.

The Ghoulish Valentine, H.P. Mallory - 3 stars (Dulcie O'Neil, #1.5) This involves the characters from her book To Kill a Warlock and if you haven't read that than I don't think this story would do much for you. I knew the characters, so it was cute, although it doesn't progress them at all and is just a short fun little side adventure.

Impulse Control, Susan Bischoff - 5 stars (Talent Chronicles #0.5) This is a side story to the Talent Chronicles, but with different characters so you can still enjoy it without having read Hush Money. Just like with 'Hush Money', I absolutely loved it. This series has an X-Men sort of vibe to it, with the government taking children to a State School once they are know to have Talents so they can be "trained". It is unique to be able to develop a good world as well as characters in a short story, but I think Bischoff did a great job and I can't wait for the second book in this series! (I'm hoping the kids from this story will meet up with the ones from the first book, there was one character from the first book, Emma, but she just had a cameo).

A Fairytale Ending, M.T. Murphy - 1.5 star (Villainous #0.5) While I can appreciate the irony of the title, this one just didn't do it for me. I can appreciate the attemp not to romanticize vamps and weres, but really, what was the point? Not a fan.

Blindsight, Kait Nolan - 4 stars So I really liked this short story. Interesting world, great characters, only problem is that I felt like it ended kind of abruptly. Either way, the continuation on these characters will be a full-length book in the fall and I will definitely be looking forward to it.

The Sacrifice, Toni LoTempio - 1 star At first I thought this would be an interesting idea because it sort of challenges your typical PNR theme of the woman and vamp falling madly in love and he's perfect. However, I think it's possible to do short stories without things seeming abrupt and crazy easy for the characters to figure out, and LoTiempo just does NOT pull that off. I haven't finished it, so maybe my review will change if I decide to go back to it, but as of right now it stands.

Wild Passion, Lori Brighton - (Wild, #3)

Until the Breaking of the Day, Daniel Arenson

This was a hard book to review-mainly because there were so many stories in it.
I think the neatest thing about this collection of stories is that the authors involved in the anthology are donating all proceeds to the charity Greater Good., which looks like a very cool organization. Taken from their website:

"We're committed to making the world a better place by using simple online ways to protect the health and well-being of people, animals and the planet. GreaterGood.org™ partners with and funds leading nonprofit organizations around the world in order to alleviate poverty and hunger, promote peace, address cancer and other widespread health problems, foster literacy and provide education, preserve vital habitats in peril, and provide protection and care to vulnerable animals."

The thing I love about anthology's is that I always end up finding new authors to read. While I knew I would like Lori Brighton's story, I was surprised to find I also liked Cat Fight by Zoe Winters, Impulse Control by Susan Bischoff, and Blind Sight by Kait Nolan. Almost all of the stories in the book are continuations of different series that each author has, but all can be read as stand alones. It was really hard to review the stories in this book-mainly because I didn't want to give anything away in any of the short stories. The stories I'm featuring are the ones I liked the best:

Cat Fight by Zoe Winters
Cat Fight takes place in Zoe Winters' "PretVerse". Greta is a cat therian (shifter). She's been involved with Dayne, a local sorcerer since she sought his protection from her murderous tribe. After a fight, Greta shifts into cat form and refuses to come back out. (goodreads.com)

What I liked most about this book is that it gave me more of Greta and Dayne! I read about them in her novella Kept, and was so happy to have more of them. :)

Impulse Control by Susan Bischoff-
This short story made me want to read the rest of the series by Susan Bischoff. I thought the kids powers were pretty cool and it was just a different sort of paranormal story.

Wild Passion was of course my favorite novella in this book, and I just loved everything about it. Adelaide was such a great heroine, and she just wasn't going to put up with any crap from James.

Blind Sight by Kait Nolan
This is another author I was unfamiliar with before I read this anthology and now I really want to read more by Kait Nolan! I liked how you really weren't sure where this was going, and the ending made me want more. :)

4.5 stars overall broken. Definitely worth it's 99 cent price - AND PROCEEDS GO TO CHARITY. Guilt free reading :))

A Ghoulish Valentine by H.P. Mallory: 2.5 stars - OK read once the action got started, a bit confusing at the start when it was trying to world build in a short novel and I had a hard time getting over the names [e.g. Knight Vander???]

Cat Fight by Zoe Winters: 4 stars [I've read earlier books in the "Blood Lust/Preternaturals" series so loved catching up with characters - humorous]

Impulse Control by Susan Bischoff: 4.5 stars - [#0.5 in the Talent Chronicles] x-men in high school, pretty cool - enjoyed enough that I bought book one off kindle. [there is a link on goodreads to read for free - but for 99cents off Amazon it seemed worth it to support an Indie author]

Wild Passion by Lori Brighton: 4 stars and enjoyable - it's book three in the WILD series. Haven't read series so can't comment.

A Fairy-tale Ending by M.T. Murphy: 4.5 stars - I wasn't sure if it was 3.5 or 4.5 stars straight after reading as the ending was unexpected. It left me interested enough in the characters to buy "Lucifera's Pet" from Amazon - not sure if it's a prequel or sequel til I read it.

Blindsight by Kait Nolan: 4 stars. This is book two in the Mirus series and after reading this book and the blurbs - I've found myself a new series to read. Yippee!!
p.s. book soon to be released called Red from this author might not be from the series - but looks really really good :)

The Sacrifice by Toni LoTempio: 3.5 stars - very gothic feel to it.

Until the Breaking of the Day by Daniel Arenson: 3.5 stars - ok read, different.

If You Leave by Stacey Wallace Benefiel: couldn't make it through the first chapter - so I'll leave someone who’s read it to rate.

I originally bought this book so that I could read H.P. Mallory's Dulcie O'Neil story because I had really enjoyed the first book in this series. I'm really glad that I did because it was a fun peek into a night out with Dulcie and Knight. I hadn't read anything by the other authors but for .99 cents I decided to try them out especially since the proceeds went to the GreaterGood.Org charity. Another perk to picking this up was that I was introduced a few new to me authors. I really enjoyed the story Impulse Control by Susan Bischoff so much that I had to go out and find more work by Susan, this was a great YA story that left me wanting more. My other favorites were Cat Fight, and Wild Passion. I loved having this book on my phone, it made it so convenient to read when I was out and about with time on my hands. All in all a pretty darn good read.

So far, I like the stories, although not enough to pay full price for this anthology. I realize it is unfair to group them all together, and I do like some more than others. For instance, I enjoyed Wild Passion and Blind Sight, while neither Cat Fight or A Ghoulish Valentine did anything to keep my attention. I think because they were short stories, they lacked the development of plot and character. At the current price, though (a dollar or two), I'd buy it again, since it did offer a few chuckles and a nice diversion during my commutes.

It is hard to rate an anthology of short stories because some you like and some you don't. For me this anthology was like a box of chocolates. I took one out and read it every night. Some I enjoyed so much I went back and researched the authors and what else they had to offer that I might like. Even bought some of their indie e-books. Even the stories I didn't love I still liked.

It was .99 and all the proceeds went to a charity. You can't miss with this one.

I was concerned about graphic sexual content because it was tagged a paranormal romance anthology. There wasn't any.

I read this book because I had read some works by some of the authors and thought it would be nice to read some new authors who also write paranormal books. I found that the short stories by the authors I was already familiar with did not fail to please me. I was able to discover some new authors who piqued my interest in their work, while there were other authors who's stories bored me and I struggled to complete the short story.

This was a really fun read, and I enjoyed the opportunity to discover some authors I may not otherwise have ever found. I particularly loved If You Leave, Impulse Control and Wild Passion. I look forward to reading more from all of these authors. I would highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys paranormal romance...at .99 this anthology is a steal!

I loved the Dulcie story in this, its a must read for anyone who really likes H.P. Mallory. The other stories were good as well but the only reason I didnt give it a 5 star is they were a little too blah for me. I do recommend this though, especially if you are a fan of any of the authors. Its a fun quick read.

How would you expect a date between Knight and Dulcie to be on the very special night of Valentine's day to go any other way?
I had to laugh at how Knight "protected" her face. Too funny. I could just see the look of hate on D's face at that time.

I just found out book 6 coming out in a couple of weeks is the final one. I know it has to end, I just hope it ends the way I want it.

I liked having this to go back to when I didn't have time to sit and read a whole book. Of course I wanted more to the stories but they're shorts so what can you expect? I also found several authors that I am going to have to check out thanks to this!

I haven't read many anthologies, but this one wasn't bad. I enjoyed about half of the stories and found a few new authors that I may want to venture into later. For a $.99 Kindle purchas this wasn't bad.

I just read the Dulcie O'Neill story since it was a short at the end of her book Malice in Wonderland. I liked it but it had been so far between the first one that I had forgotten that Knight and her hadn't really dated yet. I thought it was funny though with the mud....YUCK!!
