This is more of a note to myself, but this book is probably a good companion to a junior high music course- all the basics, written in adult language, without being overwhelming. Not as much specific info as I'd like, but a decent (though dated) bibliography. Short and sweet. A good launching point from which to have students pursue more specialized research.
