Harts of Texas #1

Just Surrender...

Rate this book
Straitlaced surgeon Tyler Hart hops into a cab at JFK…and goes on the ride of his life. Punky, funky, fly-by-night cabbie Edie Higgins takes him on an all-night New York City adventure involving a flat tire, a strip club and diner food. Oh, and a mind-blowing early-morning romp in a notoriously naughty hotel.

So when Edie offers to become newly single Tyler's love sensei, he thinks, why not? Especially since she's a very hands-on teacher.

They couldn't be more different, but they're about to learn the same to just surrender. Everything.

Ik hou van Kathleen O'Reillys' schrijfstijl en karakters. Geen "typische Harlequin", allesbehalve zelfs. Heel mooi weer.

HER BUZZER RANG SOONER than she’d expected.
“What do you need?” she asked.
“You left.”
“Sorry,” she said, and rang off.
The buzzer rang again.
“Who is this?”
“Tyler.”
“Sorry,” she said, and rang off.
Once again, the buzzer sounded.
She pounded at the button. “What?”
“If you actually didn’t want to talk to me, you wouldn’t be answering the bell.”
“Good night, Tyler.”
“I’ll sing—”
And then she heard it. Eight stories below, a doctor, originally from Texas, was singing like a dying animal.
Reluctantly she buzzed him up.
He stood in her doorway in neat suit, meticulous Windsor knot and a stubborn gleam in his eyes. “You left.”
She nodded once, keeping safe distance between them. She was onto his act now, playing the part of the helpless, clueless, buttoned-up man. Buried underneath all that respectability was the shifty heart of the devil.

Pull quotes/notes
"Slowly, the pain in her heart numbed and Edie looked at Patience and Wanda and smiled in what some might term a vulnerable, teary manner, which wasn't a good look for a role model.
'Thanks,' Edie said quietly, not exactly wanting to be heard. It might imply that she was unhappy and as dippy as the next female, and frankly, considering her friends' own precarious strength of will, they didn't need to be disillusioned with the truth." (362/559) this woman

I almost gave up on reading this a couple of times. It was painful to read about a sweet, eccentric, and interesting woman setting herself up to fail with a guy. I had to remind myself that harlequins end happily. Tough to read but the author really has an intelligent and interesting voice. I read the other two books in the set and liked them as well.
