This terrific story is the continuation of (RITA Award-winning) SUNFLOWER. Kase Storm, half-breed son of Analisa, is now an adult lawyer. Before this story begins, Kase has prodded and poked at his mother and step-father (Caleb Storm) to know more about his real father. When they admit that his mother was raped and lived with censure because she kept him, Kase is shattered by the news. He abruptly leaves his home in Boston and finds a job as marshal in a small town of Wyoming Territory.

When the story begins, Kase is stuck emotionally and doesn’t know what to do about it. Little happens in the town and he has plenty of time to stew. One day, a small foreign woman (Rose Audi) appears, looking for her husband. Kase has the unenviable task of telling her that her husband was recently killed by a stray bullet. When she faints, he takes her to a boarding house, rents her a room for the night and buys her a train ticket to leave.

The next morning, however, Rose has no intention of leaving town. She finds the shop her husband planned to open his store and decides to begin a restaurant. The only thing that seemed unlikely is the fact that it immediately became a success – in spite of the few residents.

When Kase realizes he is interested in Rose, he decides to go back to the Indian village where his father is likely to have come from and learn more. He’s concerned because he has a hair-trigger temper, is hostile to prejudice and solves problems with his fists first. He worries that he may turn into a murderer too.

This book is hard to set aside; the writing is engaging and interesting. I hated to let go of SUNFLOWER so this continuation is a real treat. The next book in this series, COME SPRING, is about Kase’s sister – and also won a RITA Award. 4.5 stars

Closer to 1.5 stars but I am feeling very generous today.

I thought Kase's childhood character in Sunflower was very sweet. I knew that Analisa and Caleb were good parents. They loved him very much.

That said, this romance was loaded with anger. Kase finally found out the circumstances of his birth. Between that and some hardships he had away at school his personality turned 180 degrees. It was like he could not remember any of the good times he shared with all those that loved him.

I am not going to share the details of the book except to say that ROSE had too many distractions. Ms. Landis repeatedly rehashes the past. After awhile, I began to lose interest but I continued to wade through the pages. Seriously, if Kase and Rosa would have just sat down and talked to each other but then there would not have been a book. This story should only be read if you want to finish this American West trilogy as I did. Otherwise look for something else to read.

Started out well, up to the middle, interesting and went pretty much downhill. Too many changes from nowhere. Heroine nicely stubborn until waiting for declaration tha happened and then the hero changes his mind a bazillion times until the end when i just cared little anymore, maybe it was better for her to be without this person.

Second book in a trilogy about a multi generational family in the American west. I read this trilogy out of order. I still enjoyed each story, but I think I would have preferred to have read it in sequence so some of the plot that went between each book would have flowed more naturally.

I am a sucker for a good western. I especially liked this one b/c Kace the hero of the book is so troubled by his parentage. He is a half breed Sioux Indian. His mother Annalese from the book Sunflower, was dutch and his father is Sioux. Rosa (Kase calls her Rose) is from Italy. Both Kase and Rosa are young. I like that they are both young.

When Kace and Rosa first meet sparks fly. He is the town sheriff. She has come from Italy to reunite with her husband, but quickly learns her husband is dead. Kace buys Rosa a ticket to go back to Italy, but Rosa has other ideas. She turns the ticket in for the cash to help start up a business.

Funny, too!

I liked this book until the end. I will not spoil it for anyone but the ending annoyed me. Rosa leaves Italy to follow her husband to America. Once Rosa discovers where her husband went to she meets up with Kase Storm. A love story of a fiesty Italian woman and a head strong half breed (Sioux Indian & white).

I hate finding out a book is a part of a series and I read them out of order. I should have read Sunflower, Rose, then Come Spring.

Another hit by Jill Marie Landis! Rose captures the imagination and takes the reader on an adventure in the old west. I fully recommend "Rose" to everyone, who enjoys a good historical.

DNF. Nice enough story with interesting characters, but too slow in pace, with endless scenic descriptions and repetitive scenes with hero and heroine mulling over things in their heads.
