She’s been called from her place in the darkness to aid the side of good in the last place she wants to be...
Dani, groomed by Lilith herself, has long been spreading horror in the murk of purgatory. She never asked to be summoned to Heaven’s Gate and never expected to be charged with the stubbornly attractive angel Nicholas as her partner. Though, with a face like his to look at, Dani isn’t about to complain. The lines between good and evil are shifting. Dani discovers that, lurking in her familiar darkness, are secrets she would never have guessed at and doesn’t understand. Now she must ask herself, who is a demon supposed to trust?
He’ll have to join forces with the last entity he expected… but sometimes true loyalty lies in the most unexpected places.
Nicholas is a sentry angel yet to see actual combat, so it comes as a surprise when he’s summoned by the highest angelic executive. The bigger shock is being forced to rally together with an alluring demon he can’t get out of his head. But as allegiances are tested, Nicholas discovers a lot is hiding between the boundaries of good and evil. Side by side, Nicholas and Dani must fight the unknown… in whatever form it takes.
Allie Shante was born and raised in Georgia, but now gets to move around with her military husband and her two fur babies, Barry Allen & Loki. She has always had a love for books and that love has never faltered. At the ripe old age of 13, Allie knew she would write a book and many ideas later, Living Legend started to unravel itself into the book it is today. The unraveling took many many years, by the way.
When she isn’t diving into her mind palace, Allie likes to snuggle with the pups, read a good book, feed her online shopping habit and conquer escape rooms with her husband.
Angels and demons, the FMC is the morally grey one and she's giving Aries energy... therefore I loved her! This had SOOOO much potential for me!! Honestly the plot was super interesting and I really like where the story is going. Diverse cast of characters, witty banter, ammmmazing fight scenes! What pulled me out of it was how soon the romance burned. The girlies that don't mind a quicker burn, this is for you!! I may still continue this series because the plot has me intrigued, but I am going to pause for now.
I have so many things I could say but the first being I was not prepared for the mid-war sex marathon ? babe’s with WHAT TIME. and in your FATHER’S HOUSE ?!
First off, I’d like to thank Allie Shante for giving me an ARC, I am so grateful for the opportunity to read and review this novel. With that being said, here is my honest review.
3.8/5 stars. I think overall it was a great first book. I enjoyed a lot of the book! I’ll definitely be following Shante’s career and seeing what she releases in the future.
We got all the good tropes, enemies to lovers, opposites attract, from different worlds (literally), mystery, and of course fantasy. Oh and DUAL POV!!! There’s Dani (a demon) and Nicholas (an angel); right off the bat I loved that the girl was the darkness and the boy was the “nice” one.
Dani’s and Nick’s banter is definitely the star of the show, they are funny, witty, and flirty. The tension is there and the angst is palpable. Dani is so sure and confident in who she is. Nick is fiercely loyal, and constantly overthinking.
My favourite character though would have to be Elise. She is crazy, but in the best way, and also absolutely hilarious. I wanted to know so much more about her. Elise walks to the beat of her own drum, and she definitely comes off as rude or cold, but I love it. Hope to see more of her later.
A few things I didn’t enjoy was the pacing of book overall and the details. I sometimes found that the writing was either rushed or drawn out for too long. I wanted there to be more of a focus on the world building, not just the romance.
Overall, still a solid read and you should definitely check it out if you have the chance!
2,5 ⭐️ I had started reading this book with some high expectations, and the book met what I expected at first. Moving forward in reading, however, the chapters have become overly lengthy and too full of descriptions which, at some point, I found myself avoiding, going straight to read only the dialogues. I was also a little disappointed by the description of the angels: if the author had not referred to their wings from time to time, I would probably have thought I was reading a book about ordinary humans looking for a way to defeat a villain. Quite a pity...
This book took me awhile to read. I don’t know if I just wasn’t in the mood for this exact genre or what. The beginning of this book is slow and it took me a couple of days to get through the first 50% of the book. But let me tell you once you hit the halfway point this book really takes off and you won’t want to put it down.
Dani is a demon who is favored by Lilith. She is taken up to Heaven’s Gate to help with a small demon problem. Nick is a sentry Angel who is called to lead the investigation over the demon problem and he is forced to work with Dani. These two are polar opposites and I loved watching them interact. I also really enjoyed Elise and Reese, they brought some entertainment to the scenes. We get enemies to lovers with a slow burn romance. The ending of this book though will throw you for a loop! There were twists at the end that I didn’t see coming and I can’t wait to read the next book to see what happens next!
This book could have benefited from tighter editing, as it felt unnecessarily prolonged and had quite a lot of grammatical errors. The chapters were overly lengthy, filled with useless descriptions and written with the assumption that the reader is 5 years old and is dumb and needs everything broken down. Unfortunately, the characters lacked depth and likability, often engaging in trivial conflicts that added little to the overall narrative. Personally, I found myself struggling to maintain interest and had to push through to reach the end.
Starting off this review by thanking the author for the eARC opportunity! Like always, this review is completely voluntary & honest.
This book was definitely a fun ride. It had me laughing so hard at times because of some characters' banters & it also had me fanning myself because Allie really brought the SPICE. Nick is an angel & all, but he's definitely got a whole other side. 😈
With this being a debut book, there were parts that could have used more editing but I didn't let that affect my overall feelings on this book. The writing was also different & the overall voice of the book too, but again, I didn't dislike it, it was just different for me. I truly mean it when I say I enjoyed this read & had fun while reading it; & also when I say I have a feeling this author & series will become even better with each book!
So starting with Nick & Dani, they are polar opposites that just work together in the best way (even though they won't fully admit it.) The tension between them? Chef's kiss. The way Dani is unapologetically herself & will let no one affect who she is and/or what she thinks of herself. Also a complete flirt, oof. Her badass energy was unmatched. Nicholas was such a sweetheart but also not when he doesn't wants to be (cough cough). He is so loyal & caring, to a fault sometimes, as well as courageous. But he is completely relatable when it comes to his spiraling and overthinking because BOY can he overthink and overanalyze things.
Reese and Elise are a chaotic duo that explode when together. Elise is a psychopath we root for. A violent little demon. Reese is a flirty, confident, chaotic mess but also the most amazing & loyal friend. So many lovable characters! So many twist and turns. SO MANY questions after that ending. Definitely give it a shot!
I love this book! Angels, Demons and a line that is so blurred you won’t know which side has the “Good Guys” on it.
Within the first few pages this book drawls you in. Dani is our fmc and she is a pain demon who lives in purgatory, the scene opens up with her torturing someone.
Heaven and purgatory smash into each other when a demon finds its way into heaven through one of the impenetrable portals. Dani is pulled to heavens gates to help get to the bottom of it and the two angels she works with along the way are not to happy to be working with a demon.
The world building is phenomenal, the magic intertwined into it is 🤩. The complexity of the characters and plot are phenomenal I would never have guessed that this was the authors debut novel! The character growth you see throughout the book is one of my absolute favorite parts of this book and the betrayals 😭 oh my heart breaks for some of the characters. I can not wait until book two comes out!!!! Tropes 🖤 forced proximity 🖤 opposites attract 🖤 slow burn
This was a real struggle to hold my attention. I enjoyed parts, the romance and relationship mostly. But the plot was kind of boring
Updated: ok I was a little frustrated with this read because I felt like the plot progressed too slow considering it was pretty obvious who the bad guys were. Dani’s origin was a good twist but again sort of obvious. I also realized I didn’t like the dynamic between her and Elise even after everything came out. So I think my issue was that if you take out the sex the story wouldn’t have held my attention and that’s why it felt boring.
Allie Shante you rule 👑 Living Legend is one heaven of a five star ✨ read and you are a queen . This book is an action packed page turner that kept me on the end of my seat the whole time. Living Legend is a paranormal suspense romance full of action , unexpected alliances, wonderful characters and so much plot twists that had my head spinning . There is a great world building - angels and demons and enchanters , an interesting story line , so many secrets and great characters. And Nick and Dani are so good together . And that chemistry between them is so of the charts that probably could overheat your Kindle . I loved the witty banter between Reese and Elise , they made me laugh out loud while reading . I have to say that I guessed right one of the villains but the other one was so unexpected that I wonder how I missed the clues. The story ends on a cliffhanger but one that I can live with while I wait for the next book. I can't promise that I'll be patiently waiting but with the book playlists on repeat I can manage . Highly recommend to listen to it while reading Living Legend . It's so good.
I received an ARC copy of this book by Grey's Promotions in exchange of an honest review .
The premise was super promising: notorious demon (FMC) is summoned to Heaven to investigate a slew of breaches from demons and has to work together with the walking green flag (MMC) and cinnamon roll angel soldier. Both bring along their besties and mayhem ensues.
The book featured a lot of elements which I love in a fantasy story: angels vs demons, morally grey FMC, cinnamon roll MMC, snarky side characters. However, Dani's standoffishness and brashness never quite resonated with me and Nick's rule-abiding / overthinking became tiresome very quickly. The standout characters for me were actually the side characters Reese and Elise, including their hilarious snarky comments and mutual animosity.
While the murder mystery story was fine and some reveals were surprising, I did notice that the writing could've been a little more polished and was something that distracted me on occasion. But....I do have to say, the end of the slowburn (and Nick's lusting) was very satisfying.
"The total truth is that you may be angelic, but you fuck like a demon."
i met this author at a book convention and there was something so interesting about a female demon and male angel and this DELIVEREDDDDDD
it hooked me in from the start and i couldn’t put it down. im upset that i waited so long to start it, but also upset that i started it when the third book isn’t out yet 😅😅😅😅 i’ll just have to TRY and read the second book at a glacial pace 😭😭😭😭
i LOVED Dani, I loveddddddddd Elise, i loved Nick until he wanted to change Dani….. and Reese 🤨🤨🤨 i just want to punch him right in the balls and i’m hoping i change my mind about him in the next book because i love his banter with Elise.
super safe! Dani is a demon and has been with many men and women (mentioned not shown) and Nick can count on one hand how many women he’s been with because he prefers feelings with sex and the way Reese talks about him needing to get laid, i would say it’s been a LONG time for him 😂 i was getting worried when they had sex twice already with ZERO mention of condoms or any type of protection then the literal the next paragraph was about how Dani can’t have kids because Lilith wanted complete loyalty so she made all the demons infertile.
i wasn’t expecting the bad people to be who they were but once i knew it made sense 😂😂😂
✨𝒜𝐿𝒞 𝑅𝑒𝓋𝒾𝑒𝓌✨ 🎧: Living Legend (Living Legend, Book 1) 💻: Out now!
What happens when mortal enemies are forced to work together? And what happens when they can’t fight their draw towards each other? 👀.
When the protege of Lilith and dutiful sentry angel must work to uncover secrets and hidden truths, toeing the line of good and evil never looked so good.
Tropes: 🪽 Angels & Demons 🩶 Morally Grey FMC 🙌 POC FMC ↔️ Opposites Attract 🗣️ Banter 🙋🏼♂️ He Falls First 🫂 Forced proximity 🤝 Reluctant allies 🧑🧑🧒🧒 Found family 🌶️: moderate
This audiobook transported me straight to Purgatory and Heaven’s Gate. Both narrators effortlessly capture the snarky banter, delicious tension, and flirting! This duet narration adaptation allowed me to fully appreciate Dani’s hallmark sass and our golden boy Nick’s spiraling. I cannot wait to hear the rest of the series!
Thank you to the author for the ALC opportunity. This is my honest and voluntary review.
When I started reading this book, my immediate thought was "oh, this is going to be fun." And I was right! Right out the gate, I loved the snark and sarcasm from these characters! But it was so much more than that, too. 🖤 . Dani and Nick are obviously the stars of this book as the main characters. And I did thoroughly enjoy watching their relationship unfold. The banter 😏 The tension 🥵 The spice 🌶️ The "I want to strangle you" moments 😅 they're both equally hotttttt 🔥 and I definitely wouldn't mind spending a night with Nick 😏😈 . But the character that I loved the most, which is no surprise, was Elise. 😈 Is it because I could relate to her? Mayyyybe..... but I loved her "I don't give a fuck" attitude and wish I could embody that outright like she does. Though, that wouldn't bode well for me as I'm not an all-powerful demon....alas, I am but a lowly human. 😔 . The story was unique and I loved the heaven/hell aspect. Enemies forced to work together. And learning that nothing is as easy as you want to believe. There's his side, her side, and the truth. And this was a twisty tale of figuring it all out. There's betrayal. Learning to open up and trust. Epic fight scenes. Vulnerable moments. Diversity and rep. This book has it all 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 . I will say the foreshadowing was a bit in your face, which made the events easy to predict, but it didnt take away from the enjoyment of the story! The only thing that I didn't jive with was the long chapters 👀 and the overly descriptive writing. That's just not my preference as a reader, but again, it didn't take away from the story at all. And I know I'm in the minority, and most readers enjoy and appreciate that extra detail 👌🏻 . Overall, a solid read and I look forward to seeing what happens when we travel to purgatory 😈 go give miss Allie a follow and check out this book for yourself! 🖤
In this story, two demons and two angels team up to get to the heart of a mystery and unravel corruption at the heart of both of their realms. Books about angels and demons always have the best politics and lore. Shante manages to make the world-building even more unique than most. This book was wonderful banter and great complex characters. I loved how Dani is the one who does the flirting, the innuendo, and nudges straight-laced Nick into giving in to the desires he's fighting. I also loved how this is a more nuanced depiction of evil and good.

Updated Review:
This is a fresh, intriguing take on the classic angels-versus-demons story. A demon and an angel are forced to partner up—but Shante’s execution is what makes this story stand out. Dani and Nicholas are fantastic opposites, with Dani’s mischievous charm perfectly offsetting Nick’s rigid sense of duty. Their dynamic is filled with tension, humor, and well-paced romantic sparks. Mmm, love me some good yearning. Dani takes the lead when it comes to innuendo and temptation, flipping the usual gender dynamic on its head. It’s a delightful slow burn as Nick wrestles with his instincts while Dani enjoys pushing his buttons.
What sets this book apart is its nuanced approach to morality. Good and evil are presented not as black-and-white absolutes, but as shades of gray, and the plot delves into the corruption festering within both Heaven and Hell. This complexity adds depth to the story, giving it stakes beyond the romance.
That said, the pacing occasionally falters. Some plot points feel stretched thin, while others are resolved a little too quickly, leaving certain moments less impactful than they could have been. And while the mystery driving the plot is intriguing, there were moments when I was bored.
Still, Living Legend is a fun, unique read. The chemistry between Dani and Nick alone makes this worth picking up and the exploration of the politics between these two factions is absolutely a fun ride.
This is a story about angels, demons, and enchanters coming together to stop a catastrophic plot.
Our MCs Nick and Dani are complicated people. They both have sense of self-righteousness, especially Nick but they come to understand each other a little bit and of course they have a romance brewing. Their friends Reese and Elise are both stubborn and a lot but they care about their friends even if Elise has a funny way of showing it.
There’s secrets GALORE! I wasn’t super surprised by the traitors as there were clues throughout.
While I’m not mad at Nick for what he did, I think Dani called him out and raised valid points about his ideology and how he straddles the line when it comes to her.
This book could be a little wordy at times but overall I enjoyed it. I do think this is a good book, especially for a new author.
I started this book and then put it down for a little bit so I could finish right when the sequel dropped. Little did I know it’s a trilogy!!! As the sequel just dropped I don’t think we’ve gotten any word on when the third book will come out. *sigh*
Overall check this one out! The sequel just came out so you can read 1 and 2 for now!
I had a hard time with this book. There were times when it was dragging for me then there were spurts of intense action where I was completely wrapped up in the story.
Dani is a demon and Nick is an angel. I did appreciate that the FMC was the shadow mama. There was spice between them but honestly, I was really drawn to the 2 supporting characters in Elise (Danis friend) and Reese (Nicks friend). Those 2 had some personality while at times I found the MCs rather blah. The banter is enjoyable, especially between Nick and Reese / Reese and Elise.
Overall is was enjoyable and I will definitely read the 2nd one in this series.
SOOOO GOOD! I started this by recommendation and I’m so glad I picked it up. It was a little hard getting into it mostly due to myself needing to focus on the world building but once there I WAS ALL IN. Nick and Dani are soooo hot and their banter, interactions and overall vibe absolutely sucked me in.
I also think I’m usually pretty good at reading into the plot and foreshadowing to have an idea of what to expect and this one truly kept me on my toes. Some of the twists and turns I didn’t have a clue how it would play out SO EXCITED FOR THIS SERIES TO CONTINUE!
Now I just need Reese and Elise to angry bang it out and I’ll be ecstatic😂
I received an ALC of this book. There is a location mentioned several times (I pulled up the e-book to get an exact count and it is 48 times) called Heaven’s Gate. This is the name of a very famous cult that committed mass suicide in the late 90s. I messaged the author to let them know, wanting to talk to them about adding a trigger warning, they left me on read never responded to me. This felt very uncomfortable for me to continue reading. The author also signs her emails “See You in Heaven’s Gate” which feels VERY yucky to me. For this reason I won’t be rating or finishing this book but I did mark it as read bc I wanted to write this review.
“‘The total truth is that you may be angelic, but you f*ck like a demon.’”
First off, so freaking proud of my bb Allie for living out her dream and writing, finishing and self publishing her book. She did the damn thing!
This didn’t feel like reading a debut novel and I was blown away by Allie’s writing, characters, world building and plot.
Heaven’s Gate has a demon problem and who better to figure out demon’s mischievous behaviors than a demon herself? Dani, the Soul Seether and Lilith’s favored one is brought to Heaven’s Gate to work alongside her demon tagalong Elise and two Angels: Nick and Reese. The lines between working together and sleeping together blur for Nick and Dani who can’t resist the pull to one another.
I am such a romance girly so sometimes in fantasy romance, I’ll pay more attention to the romance aspect but I also had so much fun trying to figure out the mystery alongside the characters. The spicy moments were also hot as Hell. Nick really does know how to do it like a demon.
I don’t want to get too much into the plot because you do not wanna miss out on the opportunity to be shocked by all the reveals. I honestly never would’ve guessed the “villain” in the story. I was shook. Once you pass the halfway mark, all hell just breaks loose and things are coming together. You will not want to put the book down once the reveals start coming.
#TeamMaurice
The characters’ stories aren’t over yet and I cannot freaking wait to see where Allie takes this. Congrats again on your book release Allie! ILY.
Edit to add audio review: The audiobook is now here! Jacob & Katrina did a phenomenal job narrating and bringing Living Legend to life. This book is already amazing and they just took it to the next level! The audio is amazing because the narrators truly give you as a listener a performance rather than just reading to you. It feels like you’re there in the midst of the action.
I loved Dani, plain and simple. She was witty, bratty, and just a downright bitchy, but she still had a heart, and I relate and love that. She has no faults in my eyes, and I won't hear about any so keep them to yourself.
Nick can get fucked. He had the absolute worst savior complex ever and thought he was holier than thou just because he was an angel. Dani told him something in confidence and literally told him not to spiral and what does this fucker immediately go and do? Spiral. He couldn't just leave it alone, then his savior complex gets WORSE when he sees that he was supposed to get her soul that day and then acts offended that she isn't falling at his feet thanking him for figuring everything out. He gave her the absolute worst ultimatum essentially and then was mad because she didn't pick, like dude what did you think was gonna happen there?? Then he thought it was his place to tell her even after everyone was literally telling him not to. THEN when he didn't get the response, he wanted from her, he acted like a child and told her about Elise knowing, knowing it would cause a fight and then acting surprised when they fought? OH, and when he thought he could just deepen his voice and act authoritative that people were gonna magically listen, especially Natalia and Elise? You thought that shit would actually work on them? Dumbass, truly. I generally did not care for Nick.
Elise is funny as fuck, and I loved her.
Reese is a little bitch.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
ADDED Audiobook note- if you haven’t given this book a chance yet do it NOW! The narrators are fantastic (dual narration!) and really bring the characters to life. Getting to reread/listen just made me love it more. Especially Daddy Maurice.
4.5⭐️ My brain doesn’t want to think big analysis thoughts right now so here’s the short and quick of it. Angel + demon, sexy time, fighting, flirting, magic, DILF, Reese’s Pieces, wingspans If you liked fourth wing or acotar etc. you’ll probs like this too. I got a little lost in the sauce of the fighting at the end but the banter and chemistry and Dani and Nick make up for it.

Thanks to Allie Shante and Grey's Promotions for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
Now yes... What kind of ending is that? You can't leave me like this! I am still processing the events that occurred and how each of my theories were wrong except one. With each discovery I had a suspect, but of all the ones I guessed, only one was correct. I can't believe it.
Living Legend was a book full of mystery, action, angst and romance. At times I felt that everything happened very fast and then very slow.
The protagonists are Nicolás and Dani (whom I love too much), he is an angel and she is a demon (uh-huh). Not only are they from different worlds, they are also complete opposites. She is so daring, flirty, honest, and a highly skilled tormentor. On the other hand, Nick was very skilled with a sword, very correct in his position and always following the rules. But once he let his desires take over his actions, it brought out that hot side of him that he kept hidden. Nick was an angel, but in bed he was someone very different from the person he showed to the rest, so uninhibited and demanding, and as Dani said, he understood very well what she wanted. However, Nick also had this complex of wanting to be the hero and always be right, which brings some problems. I loved them, for the first time it didn't bother me to read a protagonist who was taking the first steps in the relationship. Dani was so wonderful, super loyal to her ideals and a fighter. The tension that existed in every moment they were together was so obvious that only a fool couldn't notice it.
I don't have much to say about Reese, just that she managed to like me near the end. And Elise... well, what I thought about her changed so I prefer to wait for the next book to have a concrete opinion about her. Their interactions made me laugh, so I'll wait to see how their relationship develops if they do have one (I hope so, they give me so many enemies to lovers vibes).
That cliffhanger? I'm not going to deny that I kept hoping that it wouldn't end as it did, my romantic side expected another outcome. However, there are two other books left so that that can be solved.
Having both points of view, from both leads, is one of my favorite things in books. But that last person who narrated? She only left me with more intrigue and angst for what is coming for others. They will take risks, learn from their mistakes, and fight to overcome their losses.
