This is a very accessible book for secondary teachers who need to easily incorporate reading comprehension strategies into their curriculum. Implementing simple strategies, like the ones outlined in this book, is a fantastic way to help struggling adolescent readers have access to content area texts.

This book, while maybe best for secondary teachers, can be easily adapted to many grades and content areas. 50 research based strategies are presented in alphabetical order. There are strategies covering fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, writing, and oral language. There is a variety of before, during, and after reading strategies. The strategies have step-by-step instructions for implementation and have examples or models of the strategy in use. My top ten favorite strategies are mnemonics, professor know it all, RAFT writing, SPAWN writing, text impressions, tossed terms, vocabulary cards, vocabulary self-awareness, word sorts, and word walls.
