A killer is working the night shift at Salem Mercy Hospital. Or at least that’s what psychic Copeland Forbes believes after an exposé highlighting unexplained deaths is published. Wanting to get involved, he’s cautioned to let the matter go. People die in hospitals, Cope’s told, and while that’s unfortunately true, he knows these deaths are not from natural causes.

Detective Jude Byrne is content working his agency’s slate of cases, staking out cheating spouses and uncovering insurance fraud. The last investigation he wants go get involved with is that of the possible hospital killer. But after suffering a basketball injury which requires surgery and an overnight stay at Salem Mercy, Jude is involved whether he wants to be or not. The question is, can he survive the night?

With the help of the West Side Detectives, a clever trap is laid. All that’s left to do is wait for the start of the graveyard shift when the hunter is on the prowl. Can the madman be stopped in time? Or will Jude become the next victim to suffer a killer cure on the ghost shift?

Objectively it was cool. A good mystery, not obvious criminal, interesting premise. Had it maybe not been in this grand west side magic collected universe, I might have rated it higher. But while I liked it, I also feel pretty tired of it. I come to this books because mystery wise I know they'll be good, but relationship wise they don't feel like there is anywhere forward to go to. For anyone. Our main cast are all very well settled with their respective spouses and growing brood of babies and toddlers. They're so well settled conflict feels kind of out of character for them and their dynamic feels stale because of it. It's either the same conflict we've already seen or a very out of character one. I also feel that Pandora has expanded and added so many characters through time that several of them have been sort of dropped or set aside, like the other witches of Salem, or even Greely and John.
If we were to stay in this universe, I'd rather see someone else get the adventures. Maybe not as settled in marriage and children. With places to grow emotionally and in a relationship.

Holy roller coaster craziness, feel ALL THE FEELS!!!

*This is part of a series and should be read in order for full understanding and enjoyment*

I love all of the Cold Case Psychic and Haunted Souls series’ and I had no doubt this would be the same. Cope and Jude always have me laughing at their snark while I love watching them love and live. But I can honestly say, I was not prepared for this one.
Cope and Ten both feel ‘tingles’ from their gifts when they read about unusual deaths at the hospital. Ronan and Jude both think they should just leave it alone and let the police, in the form of their good friend Cisco, handle it. Cope goes around Jude and wiggles into it a bit and, of course, it snowballs. While Cope and Ten are investigating at the hospital by talking to the spirits, Jude arrives in need of the usual hospital services. Now, it’s a race to make sure the ‘angel of death’ haunting the hospital doesn’t make Jude his coup de grace.
So much happens in the last few chapters of this book, and it was already action packed. This group, family, pulls out all the stops to make sure Jude gets to go home with Cope, Wolfie and, maybe another little one, in tow. This was definitely worth the heart palpitations and tears! A wonderful addition to this series and I’m looking forward to the next!

When you get to the thirteenth book in a series, there can be a tendency to become formulaic with the general story. That, however, is not the case with this book/series by Pandora Pine. This is also not a standalone series or spinoff series. You should read this series and the Cold case series in publication order. As these stories are all interconnected.
With each book in this series the worldbuilding becomes even more impressive. We get to explore and experience more and more of the town of Salem with each new story. Salem and its history have become an integral part of this series.
Pandora has stepped up even more on her character development. We don’t just get a glimpse into the lives of these characters. It’s a full-on deep dive into what married with children really is like. Sometimes this in-depth dive was a bit dark and seemed to help create the right tone for the book. Which really heightened the story. There is a sense of desperation that we experience not only from Jude and Copeland the main characters but also from Tennyson and Ronan, side characters in this series.
Once more Pandora has brought her A game to expanding this series and creating a mystery that required all of the Scooby Gang to solve. The mystery in this one was crafted brilliantly. The action and introspection in this one created a page turner for me.
If you love a great murder mystery this is the series and book for you. As with most if not all of Pandora’s books, I find that I have a hard time solving the mystery before she reveals it. I highly recommend that if you want to know how this one ends and who Lizbet is you should grab a copy of this one. I am anticipating the next book she releases.

Jude and Cope have been through so much together in their relationship but this time it's seriously put to the test with a possible angel of mercy at the local hospital. Jude is all for someone else looking into it for a change as they have been living a more settled life for a couple of months and look forward to welcoming their daughter in the near future. However, Cope what's to stop anyone else dying if they have the chance to help. Things get weighed around though when Jude is injured and has his own visit to the hospital.
Tensions run high throughout the book with the couple arguing, each with strong viewpoints that make sense but the main thing is wanting things to be safe for their family. I think this one feels much more real because angels of mercy are currently discussed in the UK with a trial going on at the moment and shows in Netflix. The mystery element is great, keeping the characters and readers on their toes as to who it could be and why they're doing it. I really enjoy the softer moments shared between the guys and Wolf, and then when they finally share some good memories together. The whole gang comes together to work on the case and all step up when it comes to protecting Jude whilst he's physically unable to walk around unaided. Ronan, especially, shows just how much Jude means to him and it's also good getting one interaction with Cisco, and not just as the grumpy Police Chief. He clearly cares about the whole gang. The found family element of this series and Cold Case Psychic is one of my favourite things and I love how it binds them all together. The book ends with a real bang, a climax of drama and action followed by joy and happiness.
Another brilliant addition to the series and I cannot wait to see how they move forward now. A definite must read for fans of the series. I'd recommend reading the series in order, just because of the characters relationships and, even better would be to go from the start of Cold Case Psychic as that brings the whole gang together.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

We are back with my favourite couple, Cope and Jude. I felt like their roles were reversed for a bit in this one.

When Cope read an article about suspicious deaths at the hospital, Cope wants to investigate, but Jude doesn't. He wants them to stay clear of dangerous cases as he wants to be around for his family. He is really worried about it and just wants to be there to protect his family.

When they do start to investigate, they find that the deaths may not be surgical complications, but Murder. I loved seeing all my favourite guys working on this one together, even Cisco is along for the ride because the cases are in Salem.

Jude has come a long way, he is no longer the playboy we fell in love with, but a family man who puts his family first and is content with his life. He will always be my favourite. Seeing how his friendship with Ronan has progressed is beautiful to see. They went from not liking each other, to being best friends and brothers. You see that so much in thus one and it's a joy to see.

This one really had me scared, especially near the end. It gave me the creeps and I couldn't look away, I had to know what would happen!

The ending made me so happy and really made me smile! I do hope it's not the end of this series and hope their is more to come.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

These Guys Are Like Family!

Another enjoyable story with the guys from West Side Magick in Salem. Although all the chosen family help out with these ghostly mysteries this book was Jude and Cope’s story in the Haunted series.

The book centred around a killer operating in the local hospital and they find a link between the men who have recently died unexpectedly and they all work in law enforcement, from lawyers to police.

An unfortunate accident takes Jude to the local hospital where he needs an operation on his knee. After Cope and Tennison find a couple of ghosts who were victims of the killer and start to put the pieces together, Cope is horrified that Jude is going to act as bait.

I didn’t work out exactly who the killer was but I had shortened the list to three!

I am loving how powerful little Everly is becoming. She is already shocking her father Tennison who is a powerful psychic with her visions and her ability to see things that he hasn’t picked up on and with her biological mother being a powerful witch who works mostly with herbs and potions it looks like Everly is going to be more powerful than both of them, something which her daddy Ronan is having to adjust to.

Always love being back in the world of these guys and their rapidly expanding family.

Where is Jude's Phoenix??

Jude's Phoenix would healed him. He is a native healer and powerful one at that. He would have healed himself before he got to th ER. Also now Cope is no longer a powerful witch? He could have thrown up shields and protection spells around Jude and his family. What made this series so wrong and interesting is becoming something unrecognizable. The only one who has any power is Everly who is just a little girl. Wolf is supposed to be a powerful healer himself and Jude is supposed to be teaching him Navajo ways. He is actually be more powerful than Jude and also be gifted with the Phoenix. What's happening to this series??? The mysteries are good but without their individual magic its just not the same anymore. Where was Carol and Victor? They are Jude's parents and now there forgotten. Elizabeth witch is Cope's mom never come around even though he told his Mom that he wants her to be apart of his life.. The only reason I gave 3 stars is because the cases they work are interesting especially the one that includes Cope using his powers and Jude having the power to heal. It all needs to come Bach to the forefront.

I love seeing the growth of Jude, he has come such a long way from the Jude we first met so many books ago. Cope & Wolf have really grounded him and now knowing that he is going to be a girl dad, really has him looking at things differently. When Cope & Ten read about unexpected deaths at the local hospital, they want to investigate, Jude doesn't. He try's talking Cope out of taking on potentially dangerous investigations as they have a lot of responsibilities. Of course, Cope feels that if he can save just one person, then it's worth it. It's almost like they have change roles. Cope wanting to jump in & Jude holding back. When Jude sustains a serious injury, the crew decides to go full investigation to keep him safe. This was a scary addition to the series and I really enjoyed it. I love this universe & seeing everyone pull together to solve the mystery. Lizbeth is going to make a great addition to the series. Sometimes kids can be kind of annoying, but I love each & every one of them & they are a great addition.

I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest opinion

Cope, Jude and the Westside Magick crew are back with another murder investigation to solve.
At a time when all is going well in their world with no complicated cases, drama or people trying to hurt them or their found family, an Angel of Death is killing people at the local hospital. Due to a sports related injury Jude finds himself as a patient at there and a target of the killer. The best laid plans don’t always go as expected but with the help of Ronan, Kevin and the rest of the crew Jude makes it home to his family.

It’s always a joy reading a new book this universe and catching up with old friends. There’s an interesting plot, some drama along the way, a loopy Jude on pain medication that made me giggle and an ending that warmed my heart.

Full of tingles

For once, it’s Cope looking for a little more excitement and a new case to sink his teeth into and not Jude when Cope’s (and Ten’s) psychic sense starts tingling after reading an article about suspicious deaths in the hospital of people who should have recovered. But things take a much more personal turn when Jude is injured and will need surgery at that same hospital. It’s interesting seeing Jude and Cope navigate around disagreements and personal fears as they try to make sense of things. There’s very little in the way of romance/sexy times here, but lots of “family” moments including most of the kids so it still counts as good, though the story ran a teeny bit flat for me at times.

If you are my age, you've seen uncountable numbers of TV mystery series episodes where someone checks into a hospital and during the night witnesses something murderous then has to solve said mystery while trying to get others to believe and help/save them. This is Pandora Pine's version of this story with Cope and Jude in the starring roles. It isn't a question of belief, here as Cope and other psychics feel there is definitely something wrong with the deaths at Mercy (!) Hospital it's trying to get Jude and others to get involved and investigate. That problem is solved when Jude is the one spending the night in the hospital after an injury. Always love seeing Pine's couples and how their relationships are developing and this plot was enjoyable and brought back some great memories.

I am such a fan of the Cold Case Psychic and related series; Ten, Ronan, Jude, Cole, and all their friends and family; the mysteries and ghosts; suspense, drama and danger! It was so good to see Ms. Pine pen another addition to the Haunted Souls series, lucky or unlucky thirteen, depending on how you look at it. As I reader, I felt very lucky indeed, although the setting of the hospital gave me the shivers. I never want to find myself in the hospital to begin with, then with a killer on the loose? Gave me the creeps thinking about it. But, then, that is part of what makes it so good. Very enjoyable.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

This new addition to the series is amazing! A new mystery to solve while Jude and Cope are waiting for a new light in their lives. No spoilers but I enjoyed a lot how they are like any couple, not always perfect, with hidden feelings and misunderstandings but that love each other so much that nothing else matters and at the end everything solves with communication. It is a delight witnessing all the hilarious banter between Ronan and Jude as I expected of so good friends but that always made a nice read. I loved all the wonderful characters, and how they interact with each other, as a huge chosen family. Another wonderful addition to the series!

I absolutely hate when the guys are in mortal peril. After all the Cold Case books and spinoffs, I sometimes worry that Pine will decide to end the series(s) and kill off main characters.
So Jude puts himself as bait to kill a hospital based serial killer. I'm with Cope on "This is a really bad idea". And even the found family of West Side Magick might not be enough to save him.
This was anxiety provoking. The person I thought was the killer, wasn't. I'm about 1 in 10 on guessing Pine's killers.
Good story. Excellent characters. Hope no LEOs needed to check Pine's browser/ medication searches!

This one is probably a little more scary to me just because of the subject matter. The idea of a person killing perfectly healthy surgery patients in the hospital is terrifying. If anyone can stop the “Angel”, it is Jude, Cope, Ten, and Ronan. It was interesting to see Jude and Cope have such a major argument in this one. They work it out of course, but it is actually kind of nice to see that such set couples can have an argument every now and then. It was a good book and we finally get to meet their baby girl.

Creepy Hospital Mystery

Great to get all the gang together again, plus the velocirapters. I enjoyed the mystery, and the way in which it was solved. This was quite a gripping and sometimes creepy story set in a hospital. The crew set out to solve a shocking series of deaths all centred around the same hospital where Jude is being treated. Always a little crazy, but very entertaining series. I do like how the guys embracing family life hasn't really slowed them down, and the cases keep coming. Great ending to this one.

I am loving what I have read so far in the series. Cope reads about a death that happens in the hospital and wants to investigate it. When talking about it, Jude tells him to leave it alone. After a couple of days they realize it might not be natural deaths. With the help of friends, they start looking more into it. In the meantime, when playing basketball with friends, Jude gets hurt and taken to the hospital. Once seeing the doctor, he will need surgery. They then make plans to capture whoever is doing the wrongs. Loved the ending and cannot wait for more.

Jude has come a long way and changed greatly since he was first introduced in the Cold Case Psychic series so long ago. He went from a notorious playboy to a devoted husband and father. In this most recent story we see yet another evolution of the man that is Jude Byrne. This change of character shows maturation and how people evolve and change over the course of time. Cope’s character remains stable in this book but we see him and Jude butt heads in a way that is different than their norm. This puts their relationship to the test and gives the reader the feel of a real life couple. There of course is the usual humor and hijinks that this series is known for. Another fine addition to the CCP universe.

Cope finds an article very interesting about a possible angel of death at the hospital. Jude doesn't really want him to do anything about it because of how he feels about the upcoming appearance of their daughter. Then investigating it is taken out of their hands and they have to find out who it is before they have the next victim in the family.

This book has all the incredible elements that the author is known for and then some. Absolutely enjoyed every page and didn't want it to end.

I love this series and the characters who make up the paranormal community in Salem...even those who have passed from this world! Except for those who are actively 'doing dastardly deeds!'

A stay in a hospital where healthy patients are dying isn't on Jude's wish list but after an injury forces him to undergo surgery it is up to him and his friends to use their skills to put a stop to the 'Angel of Death.'

Be prepared for some 'tense' moments!

Love it!

Jude and Cope are back for another life and death adventure in Salem. The West Coast Detectives team are on the hunt for a killer targeting a specific victims profile...one that Jude fits to a T.

Lots of found family love and support with the usual mix of humour and paranormal action in this installment of the Hauntes Souls series. Definitely a thrilling addition. 4.5*

The mystery aspect of this book was pretty good, and kept me guessing. The romance/relationship part was not really there, which was a disappointment. There was a lot about their kids, and it was nice to see gay couples in loving, committed relationships, but not exactly what I was looking for. Still recommended for the mystery part, just don’t expect as much of the relationship-building and steamy stuff that is usually part of a book labeled “romance”!

It may be a night shift but a killer is prowling the wards and killing however they want. He has been told not to worry about it nor were they interested until they end up in hospital for an operation. They are pulled in and they will try to help him solve what is going on. Who is the killer? Can they stop the killer? See how it will all go

so good

This latest installment of Jude and Cope’s series is intense from the first chapter. There are arguments, murders, and mayhem.
Jude is preparing for becoming a girl daddy and his responses shock Cope leading to both becoming frustrated and feeling the other isn’t treating them with respect. This particular argument intersects with some major changes coming soon.

These characters are enjoyable but the author put herself in a corner when she decided to give her characters abilities beyond the grave. There is never a sense of danger with them bc u always have an unborn child, or a lost relative telling them in advance everything will be fine. There is no exciting or edgy circumstances no matter how dire the situation, u know they ll be fine.

It is was very nice to read a story that feels so real with characters that I like so much. I like Cope, Jude, Ten and Ronan a lot. I think that they work well together. In my opinion, this storyline is the scariest because angels of death really exist.

Ghost Shift is book thirteen in the Haunted Souls series. I literally couldn’t put this one down. I love all of these books in this series and this one had me hanging on the edge of my seat the most. Loved being back with Jude and Cope. They feel so realistic at times. Don’t read this at bedtime! Overall, a fantastic read!!! Well written with addicting pacing that kept me flipping the pages.

I admit, I haven’t read the others in the series. It was generally easy to pick up, but perhaps I missed some of the more intrinsic details.

The premise for the story had the potential, but I struggled with the flow of the writing. Perhaps if I had read them all, I may have been more adjusted to this style of writing. But I did struggle in this case.

Interesting tale where the guys investigate an angel of death at the local hospital. Unfortunately Jude is injured during a game of basketball and is using himself as bait for the angel.
All the gang is here and Cope and Jude's family gets bigger.
Great!
