Kings of Disaster #2

Conquering the King of Storms

Rate this book
A few months ago, I woke up in a world full of fae with a sexy king who called me his mate.

I've managed to avoid him for the most part, if you don't count the way his magic is constantly whispering dirty things in my ears. His power makes him pretty much insane unless I kiss him, which simplifies the avoidance.

But all of that changes when we have to go after one of his buddies in an underground cave system, and end up separated from the rest of our group.

Suddenly, he's the only person who can keep me alive, and I have to keep him sane.

I still don't know much about this world, but I have to figure it out quickly. Because if I can't... well, then we're not going to make it out alive.

"I am your Sirius, and you are my Sway. Until the wind lies."

4.5 stars!

I am so glad that I picked up this series by Lola as I love it so much! I admit I get lost in the world and the different happenings, but I've come to love these characters so much that I don't really care. I love how the men are the 'virgins' in this series rather than our heroines but still do the romancing (quite adequately, might I add), and I love how the mates slowly open up to each other after being thrust together. Neither the heroes nor heroines are perfect, but all are so relatably flawed even if they're not always likable--I'm looking at you, Margo. I do wish there had been a tad more danger and angsty longing, but I cannot wait for Quake and Margo's book next!

Tropes: fated mates, friends-to-lovers, snarky heroine, cinnamon roll hero, forced proximity, he-falls-first, slow burn, abducted heroine, virgin hero, single father, magical fae world, band of brothers, found family, STEAMY🔥

La construcción de la historia está mucho mejor elaborada que la anterior.

La relación resulta mucho menos tóxica y angustiante.

Pero aún tiene detalles que no me acaban de convencer

This book was so frustrating. There are moments when it shines, but the moments of frustration outweigh those moments. I guess read it if you want?

Ivy is just something else. I know she might not know the other girls' backgrounds, but she is so self-absorbed in her own perfect situation with her mate and judges why Margo and Harper don't want to jump into bed with their mates. Gross....

*SPOILER*

Not an Easy Win . . .

Harper and Margo were covered in swamp mud when they settled in the patch of grass to sleep. And the grass had bugs, of course, but bugs had to get through the mud before they could annoy her. Two months ago, they had been in Bluhm, a magical world with elemental Fae. They ended up with a permanent connection, like a marriage, to a Fae king, even though they would still have to complete a bond.

Harper’s king was Storm, king of the wind Fae and capable of creating tornados. When the 4 kings had, years before, destroyed a bad guy, they ended up corrupted with his magic which made their magic take control of them, referred to as “insane” in that condition, and their eyes glowed. One of the other humans had brought her king back to sanity but Harper wasn’t sure that would work with all 4 kings and she wasn’t willing to try. If Harper kissed Storm, he became himself for a few minutes; but she didn’t want to kiss him and have him think she wanted this “marriage” at all. His young niece Dove missed her uncle, but Harper just couldn’t keep kissing him for those few minutes of “normal” for her sake. Ultimately, magic was supposed to eventually make the women Fae too. When they arrived at the beach, Harper jumped into the waves to wash the mud off. Suddenly Storm appeared and grabbed her angrily, telling her about the creatures that could harm her. Storm was not insane now and he stayed “normal” through the evening and asked her to walk with him. It was time to give her a nickname, important to the Fae bonding, and he gave her a choice of “Sway” or, in the ancient language, “Lainen”. And he told her his real name was “Sirus”. When he apologized that his people had taken her away from Steven, she had to tell him the truth. Steven was cruel and hurt her, and she did not love him. Storm walked into the swamp and she saw a tornado rise through the trees as he let go of his intense anger for how she was treated. When he returned, he said he was willing to only be a friend to her. But will some time spent in the caves change things for them?

I loved it!

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This series has five books. They are recommended for ages 17+ due to language and sexual content. Each book in this series is steamy connected standalones and follows a different couple with their own happily ever after, and the stories can be read in any order (but recommended to read them in order for best understanding) for they each end with a lead-in to the next couple's book. This is the second standalone book in the Kings of Destruction series. This a story about a woman named Harper (Sway by her mate) and a man named Sirus (Storm by his people and by his mate when his magic possesses him), who is the King of Storms. A few months ago, she woke up in a world full of fae with a sexy king who called her his mate. She’s managed to avoid him for the most part, if you don't count the way his magic is constantly whispering dirty things in her ears. His power makes him pretty much insane unless she kisses him, which simplifies the avoidance, but all of that changes when they have to go after one of his buddies in an underground cave system, and end up separated from the rest of their group. Suddenly, he's the only person who can keep her alive, and she has to keep him sane. She still doesn’t know much about this world, but she has to figure it out quickly because if she can't, well then they're not going to make it out alive. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. I can’t wait to read the next story in the series. I highly recommend to everyone.

It must be so difficult to know that you have to keep someone sane and the only way that this can be done is by kissing them. Especially when you have never really even spoken to them. Harper has somehow ended up bonded to a fae King. He has power over the Wind no less and is capable of creating a tornado when he is somewhat narked. Yeah and you have to deal with him. That said though when she does get something of a reprieve and he is able to speak with her she finds that he is nothing like she thought. He is sweet, kind and a little socially awkward. He has also taken on the bringing up of his niece since his sister decided she wasn't cut out to be a mother! What a darling. Storm just wanted his mate in whatever form she might take. He had not anticipated a human woman being pulled from her world to fulfill this wish. Now she is here though he wouldn't wish it undone. She is strong, compassionate and caring even though he knows she is being pushed to do things that she would not choose to do where the circumstances different. She is most definitely his mate and even if he cannot hope to have her love, there is the slim chance of them being friends so he is going to cling to that for all he can.
I have to say that I loved these two so much. They have a totally different dynamic to the first couple and you know that this will be the case for all of them. I have fallen in love with this world and group of characters and I cannot wait to find out what happens to them all. I'll be re-reading the first two til the next one comes out.

3.5 stars. This was an interesting story with two likable MCs! I chose not to read the first in the series because the reviews consistently mentioned the FMC being annoying and I get turned off so easily with that so I went straight for this one. I’m glad I did because that character was irritating in this book as well lol. But I really enjoyed Sway and Storm. They both were quiet contemplative characters who didn’t act rashly and didn’t have major drama. I do think I suffered in terms of world building not reading the first book, because some of this was confusing as hell. I got the gist as the book went on, though not a whole lot was explained. I loved the connection with Dove and Sway and Storm’s romance felt authentic and not rushed. I think I’ll continue the series but pick and choose which ones based on some reviews because some of these characters are a little irritating lol. This was a good one to introduce me to the series though as these MCs were super likable and easy to root for.

Beautiful romance

This was another brilliant book by Lola Glass.
Storm and Harper are a great couple who really try understand each other, putting their friendship before their feelings.

The story follows straight on from “Capturing the King of Flames”, with Harper knowing she is Storm’s mate but feeling unsure what to make of it after what she left behind on Earth. Storm knows he wants her but is nervous of the relationship and how to speak to her about it. Dove, his niece/adopted daughter, is lovely and sweet in encouraging them both while adding innocence and humour.

Lola has built a great world and I loved reading/watching their love grow as they discover what they can do together and what type of Fae Harper is.

There are also mentions of Margo’s difficult past and I can’t wait to read her and Quake’s story.

This was a slow burn fated mates that are both good people but complicated. Overthinking and feeling unsure about how to let the walls down and move on as friends or mates. These characters have complicated lives and histories and they don’t make things easy. They intellectualize and problem solve when in the end sometimes you have to give into feelings and honesty. That slow burn to connection is so good!! I love that these characters aren’t “bad” and it’s not crazy dark or twisted in any way. It’s just life that they didn’t get lucky at and it stuck with them. It’s such a good fae fantasy! Loved that there is also sign language that everyone wants to learn for their found family. LOVED IT 👏👏👏
It’s refreshing and it pulls you in. I love the whole group dynamic that builds with each book. And spice…steamy and spicy and romance!🔥🔥🔥.

This is the next in the Kings of Disaster series and concentrates on Harper and Storm. 6 of them are travelling to find Flood and his mate and Harper and Storm are trying to get to know each other but Harper's past is making it difficult. When they get there Quake and Margo have to leave and they take Dove with them for her safety. The rest find that they have to rescue Flood from the caves and tunnels underneath his land but there are risks involved for all of them. As they travel through the lands two of them discover which elemental fae they are and Harper starts to realize that she has to let the past go. Of course a plant with aphrodisiac properties found in the caves has a small hand in helping her. I am really enjoying this series and love the interactions coupled with the archaic practices that the Kings seem to have. A great read and I look forward to the next in the series.

This is book 2 of the Kings of Disaster series and focuses on Harper and Storm. I really love Harper and Storm. Harper has her issues and finds it difficult to trust men. Storm is a seriously sexy Fae King who is the quentessential good guy that is a bit socially awkward but has a sense of humor that matches Harpers. They are on a quest that really puts them through the shit. Along the way they get to know one another and eventually Harper makes place with her past which allows her to open her heart to Storm.

This book was much better than the first. The world building was fabulous as well as the character development. I could definitely picture their world much better and felt like I knew Harper, and Storm pretty well. I would give this book 3 1/2 chili peppers for the spice. It was pretty hot but I would have liked it to be more descriptive.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story and look forward to the next.

I'm enjoying the characters and this series a lot. I love that no one in this story is perfect physically and even emotionally but they're perfect for each other. They truly balance each other out in the best of ways. A lot of things are revealed in this story along the journey of rescuing Flood and Ayla. We learn why Storm really is the parental figure for his niece Dissiri (Dove) and honestly, he and the other kings are the best when it comes to her. They all love her, everyone loves her. Quake learns of Margo's past from Harper, even if he can't speak to her because of their rules, he listens. Dove, Ayla and Storm get their elements and there is a sweet ending for Storm and Harper when it comes to their relationship. I'm definitely looking forward to reading about the other couple relationship progressing along with the healing of their lands. I'm excited to read the next book in this series.

4⭐️ 1🌶️.

I enjoyed this book more than Tariq and Ivy’s (book 1 of this series.) I liked the fact that Sirus (MMC) and Harper (FMC) took the time to become friends before sleeping together. I felt that these characters had more of a connect even though there was a good amount of spice for a shorter book. Lola Glass does a great job of world building and it’s definitely expanded as the series has gone on.

Maybe it’s coming in the next few books, but the stories aren’t addressing or resolving the overarching issue of what is/has been happening in the Kings’ lands while they’ve been in their “insane” states. It’s brought up but feels like an afterthought. We know that each of the Kings’ lands have had people take over in their absence and some of them have been destroyed but that seems to be a really tiny point and I think it should be much more prevalent in the stories.

I don’t really want to read Margo and Odin’s story but will for continuity’s sake.

Love, love, lovvveeddd Storm. Just adored him and his niece Dove.

This book felt better paced and I liked the focus better than book one. The progression between Storm and Harper felt realistic and true to how their situation began.

I loved when Harper finally came out of her shell a bit and gave Storm a chance. And I loved even more when she became the pursuer and was always trying to seduce him instead.

Storm was just a great hero. He was quiet and thoughtful. A little socially awkward, but strong and kind. I loved that he preferred to think everything through. I adored his relationship and dynamic with his niece and how far he went to protect her. I really loved getting to see his personality reveal itself as the story went on.

I enjoyed the hell out of the dynamic between Harper and Storm so much tho. I can even overlook how Harpers behavior towards Storm in the first half of the story tried my patience because they were just so cute together.

Felt like reading like my own relationship!!

Storm and Harper are such a gorgeous pair. All the misunderstandings and not getting it right remind me a lot of how my husband and I started out. And like Storm and Harper once we worked everything out and got through all the complications and misunderstanding things worked out awesome! Lola Glass is a master storyteller and world builder. This is another fascinating world that human women have been dragged into and the kings of disaster that theu find there. The characters are all built up and as you read through the series of books you get to know them all better. You could read this as a standalone story but it is so much more fun to read Ivy and Tariq's story first. I highly recommend this for escapism, romance and some delicious steam.

I really liked this book, though I still prefer the first one. Harper's back-and-forth with her feelings could be a bit annoying at times, but it didn't ruin the book for me—I still had a good time reading it! The relationships and connections that develop are sweet and heartwarming. Storm was a character I was curious about from the beginning, and seeing his love story unfold was delightful. Towards the end, the pace slowed down a bit, but I'm looking forward to reading "Quake" next!

One thing I loved was that Storm, the hero, is just a genuinely nice guy. It's nice to see a good guy getting the girl sometimes. While I couldn't always relate to the heroine, especially in dealing with abuse, I appreciated how the book handled her journey—she managed to get out, though not without some scars. Overall, I'm really enjoying this series and would definitely recommend it!

Harper has been pulled into a strange world. She knows that she is Storm’s mate and knows that she is safer and in a better place but she doesn’t trust her instinct.
Storm wants Harper but doesn’t know how to navigate relationships.
Most of Lola’s characters are sassy but Harper isn’t. She’s kinda sweet and so is Storm. They both want desperately to be happy. When they decided that, you can’t help feeling nice when you read those scenes.
The is a definite feel good romance.
Don’t get me wrong there are some difficult scenes and subjects, some about Harper but more about Margo. When I talk about a feel good romance, I mean the couples characters. They are so sweet together that they make you feel good.
This is a good story with great characters and worth reading.

I loved this book and the way that Storm and Sway finally come together. Of course the fact that Sway is able to finally transform into a Fae is also great. The world building in this new addition to the series helped to add more to the world of Bluhm in which the human, soon to be Fae, mates are traversing. Finally meeting the fourth king and his human mate adds adventure to the story as we continue to learn more about our four couples and of course Dove. The steam and spice in this book was very enjoyable and worth the wait! I cannot wait to see how Margo and Quake work through their many issues in the next book as they seem to have more hurdles than the other three kings.

Very sweet

I enjoyed this book. The characters were well written. Character development was good and motivations were clear
I enjoyed the quest, that they were on. All that joking would be enough to make anyone depressed.
It was a very nice change to read a a MLC who was nice, thoughtful and kind. I personally have never been that attracted to A**holes, I prefer the slightly nerdy socially awkward guy, so that's a 👍🏾 from me.
I also really liked that the characters communicated their needs to one another mostly respectfully.
This was a nice romantic story with a bit of adventure and a good dollop of spice 🌶👀

Finally Storm and Harper's story is out and it was entertaining and steamy read. It starts out with a bang and kept me entertained and laughing throughout its story. Really get to know these two and understand they are meant for each other despite their troubled past. And Dove is cute as always. Enjoyed returning to this world and checking in on how the human girls are doing with their kings. There is action, trouble, and finally learning to understand each other that was entertaining to read. Enjoyed the story.

A decade ago, four kings of fae lands killed a fae who held immense power. The power settled on the kings when the old fae died, but on top of their existing well of power it was too much and drove them insane. Human women were abducted in hopes of bringing the kings out of their insanity with a mate bond. This book is the story of Storm, king of the wind fae, his niece/adoptive daughter, Dove, and the human mate who was abducted for him. It’s one of my personal favourite stories in the series.

I have had the pleasure of reading both books of the Kings of Disaster and as much as I liked book 1, Conquering the King of Storms is by far my favorite. It goes against the 'nice guys finish last' trope without seeming forced or cheesey. It delivers endearing characters, enjoyable banter, scorching spice and even a few moments so gorgeous they might make your eyes leak. I am eagerly anticipating my return to Bluhm!.

What can I say about Harper and Storm, but the good dependable guys in most books of this type always come last, and never get the girl. Not so in this book and it made for a refreshing change.
Harper has been hurt in the past and poor Storm had to get to know her well in order to navigate her issues and win her trust.
Really enjoyable read I cannot wait for the next instalment.

This is the most beautiful and soothing story I have ever read. I fell in love with Storm and Sway characters. They both had a remarkable understanding of them.

The transition between them from friends to lovers was exhilarating and delightful. I liked Dove’s character. She added playfulness to the entire plot.

I loved that the story began from where it left us in the prior book rather than starting from the top.

A splendid book and series so far can’t await the following one.

You definitely need to read the first book in the series to get the full understanding of what’s going on in this one, but it’s worth it. I’m so glad I decided to read the first one in preparation. Storm and Harper are so good together and their story is sweet. I will be watching for book 3 because Margo and Quake’s chemistry is off the charts!!.

story keeps flowing

Again I write a review for this series because it is that good. The story just keeps flowing. Often I do not like books that start with five guys who are so close and then each book is them finding love. This one though, the story keeps flowing between them. As you get to the end the next couple becomes more centre which makes a great transition. I like the romance.
