They were sent to identify the spy in their midst. Instead, they'll have to unmask his murderer.
London, 1922. With the temperatures rising, both literally and figuratively, Dora and Rex are thrilled to learn their next assignment is in the Cotswolds. Word on the street suggests a foreign spy is operating in plain sight, masquerading as a wealthy man with a dubious title. Rex is to invite the man to his family home in the rolling hills for a rollicking weekend of fun. In between bouts of lawn tennis and parlour games, he and Dora are to uncover any truth behind the rumour.
The servants barely have time to unpack everyone's case before the suspected spy is found with an antique dagger sticking from his back. With few suspects, the case shouldn't be too hard to solve. But when every door leads to a dead end, Dora and Rex are forced to consider a most unpalatable option.
Were they wrong about the identity of the foreign spy? Or... could one of them be the betrayer?

Well, it didn’t take long for me to become captivated by this latest episode in Dora and Rex’s world of intrigue. Nothing goes quite how they expect it to and we see Dora uncharacteristically become a little unsure of herself . . . For a short while anyhoo! I thought I knew whodunnit, changed my mind, changed it back again, then changed it completely and was still wrong! 😆 Ms Morrison cleverly keeps you guessing as to the identity of the murderer, with plenty of twists, turns and unexpected developments along the way before the final reveal. I very much enjoyed Rex’s increased confidence and continuing development into a valuable member of the team. There are also developments regarding Dora’s partnership/potential relationship with Rex; she makes a decision, but is it the right one? 🤨 Again I could easily visualise the scenery and characters from the excellent descriptive writing. Definitely a page turner - I just wanted to keep reading and found myself getting annoyed when I had to stop reading and go do adulting things in the real world!
Dora and her crew are back in this third installment of Lynn Morrison's Dora and Rex 1920s Mysteries. These characters continue to delight with their sense of humor, steadfast loyalty to each other and the Crown, and their varied skillsets. Dora, known by society as a notorious femme fatale, is a master of disguise and equally believable as a housemaid or a femme fatale, although neither are her true identity. Rex is developing nicely, especially after the disappointing self-doubt he displayed in the previous book, and this team of spies, including Ingrid, Harris, and others, is operating as a well oiled machine. Even so, Dora has decisions to make and people to convince. A family estate in the Cotswolds, complete with secret passages, a secluded setting, a mixed bag of guests, and an inconvenient murder make for an entertaining story. I am pleased that Boob 4 will release sooner than later.
As usual, Pearl Hewitt does an outstanding job voicing these characters.
Fans of Dora and Rex will not be disappointed with the newest book in this captivating series! It delivers an action packed mystery that will keep you guessing ....'who dun it'........ hoping for a nice quiet time resting and entertaining in the country Rex and Dora are soon faced with NOT the scenario they were expecting! They've got the guest of honour murdered and an eclectic mix of guests handpicked by the deceased for reasons unknown to our hosts. Scads of mayhem sprinkled with various quips and actions of the humorous variety to keep us royally entertained! I really appreciate how the author is slowly unveiling the pasts, the talents, and the idiosyncrasies of Dora's team! So glad I got the first book of the series and I'm looking forward to future books in the series. A must for every mystery aficionado's library whether it be in hard/paper or electronic form!
Rex agreed to host Dora's ex-lover and foreign spy in a country house party to find out why he's in England. Then the guy is found killed in the guestroom and the suspects are the guests he wanted invited. To keep the murderer contained, Dora gets her own butler Harris to pose as the local constable to investigate the murder.
But things get more complicated with the unexpected arrival of Rex's grandmother and Dora's brother as well as Rex's incorrigible friend Clark. I have to say I'm really enjoying Clark's character.
There's also some development on the romantic front between Dora and Rex. I still don't know how the author is going to resolve Dora's double identity.
Quick paced mystery with Dora being a very smart lead of a wonderful team. Dora and Rex’s relationship, both business and personal, is growing. Both have family members who help with the mystery. Plenty of suspects had me guessing till the end. Nice nod to Jessica Baker’s Lady Thea series. Wonderful ending and a small hint of the next mission. Wonderfully developing series. Looking forward to the next one.
Another excellent mystery cozy in an excellent series. I loved this book! Of course I have loved the other two books in the series. It takes a good writer to sustain that taste of adventure in three books, let alone more. The plot is easily followed, the character's become old and trusted friends and the premise is always working well with people you trust with your life and helping others. I most definitely recommend this book.
It's very hard to put down. Rex and Dora's plans to out spy a foreign spy go down the drain when the Count winds up dead. Team Dora work every angle to find out who murdered him and what he was after. All of the farce taking place in Rex's home in the country. Red herrings, one after another, stump the sleuths. Family pressures, relationships, and self doubt get in the way of the smashing conclusion. Anxiously awaiting the next adventure!
From meeting the parents & Rex still holding on to the truth they escape to the country with a few odd guests. One at least is, or was a spy but finding the murderer seems to be a bit of a challenge. Unexpected guests arrive and then with a theft or two is it more or less - a puzzle only for the very best to solve. And of course, loves also in the air.
Really enjoyed book 3. Dora and Rex are moving right along as spys and working together beautifully. Now if they can only convince her brother that she is really capable of doing something worthwhile instead of living a life of just parties and fun. Can they solve this next murder together? What's going on with their relationship? I love the characters in these books. They are so real and so human. Can't wait for book 4 to come out. Enjoy.
This was a lovely read as we see Dora and Rex mature into their professional and personal relationships and we get a deeper dive into the support team's backgrounds. Twists and turns are abounding, leading to a surprising conclusion! Sometimes it seemed like the story dragged a bit but the conclusion was well worth the read!
It has been a long time since I read three books without boredom or a break. I have put everything else aside and continued to read. They are delightful, historically interesting and clever enough to hold my attention full time. Thank you and I look forward to #4
This was a really enjoyable instalment in the Dora & Rex series - it was great to see Rex really coming into his own as an agent, and getting to see Dora having just that little bit of doubt (plus finally getting seeing Benedict get a sense of what she's capable of)
Looking forward to reading the next one when it comes out.
The third in this series does not disappoint. Rex is now almost fully trained. Their close bond begins to frighten Dora. She worries their relationship may cloud her judgment. Especially since their next mission involves an old flame! As with the first two books, there are many twists and surprises. Can’t wait to read the next installment!
An engaging cast of characters. Well written. A solid mystery with a solid ending. It's refreshing to read a mystery and not have the ending seem like the author realised they needed to send it to the publishers last week. I've read the first two and they are just as good. Starting the fourth one tonight.
This next novel in the series showcases the different classes that make up the elite in England. From the penultimate snob to the lowest of the servants, all classes are represented. Each character is crafted so as to evoke the emotions of the reader. The plot is tight and keeps one on their toes as they peruse this tome. A brilliant tale!
This is a good murder mystery with intriguing character scenes with action, subterfuge and sleuthing.Author is a good storyteller and a good imagination.Loved the dry humour, witty banter and sassy dialogue.Does need some editing ,but not too bad.💃🏻❣️😉🤨
Their mission has placed them in Rex's grandmother's home for the weekend along with invited guests (suspects). Rex is the weakest member of Dora's team! I feel even grandmother Edith is a greater asset to Dora!
My favorite of the series so far, though I'm sure that will change as Lynn releases future books. I would love to tell you why it was my favorite, but that would be *SPOILERS.* So please take my word for it and read ALL of this series. You won't regret it!
One of my favorite series. Some how I had missed reading #2 and #3. Glad I went back and read them. Fills in the background story. Dora, Rex, Inga and Harris are some of my favorite characters in the many mystery series that I read. Really great historical mystery.
Dora and Rex continue to find intriguing solutions
There are no unnecessary actions, word or scenes. Everything fits so perfectly together and I am looking forward to more from Lynn Morrison. She keeps holding interest til the last sentence
Really enjoyed the adventure. Love the team that Dora has collected. So cool that Red and his grandmother are now a part of it. Mending family fences and challenging preconceptions is high on Dora's to do list. Fascinating to read how things go.
This series has steadily gotten better. Rex, Dora, and their cadre of helpers have become a group that I cheer for. The personalities of them all have been well-crafted. Lady Rockingham is quite a character too. I will read more of this series.
Fun to read. Has mystery with underlining comedy and romance. Fantastic scenery with some historical fact that just might peak your interest into the actual events.
I don’t know what else to say. I love Dora and Rex and their crew. The mystery is well researched and full of red herrings, and the solution ingenious!
