The perfectly preserved body of a 10,000 year-old headless horse is discovered in a glacier in Norway. In Dublin, a genetic engineer in the employ of a ruthless businessman dreams of creating the fastest racehorse ever. Add an inquisitive young girl and a dash of magic, and when an extraordinary foal is born, the adventure really starts. An exciting science-fantasy-thriller from a talented young writer.
This is a really sweet little book and tells the story of an evil scientist who uses the blood from an ancient horse that was found in a glacier to create a new breed of modern horse. Only, once the foal is born, he starts to grow at an amazing rate and there's a small nub of hair on his forehead that just keeps getting harder.
I really enjoyed returning to my childhood with this one and, although the 'science bad, nature good' message was a bit heavy-handed, I can see how it would be informative to kids. I love the idea of a herd of wild unicorns living in the wilds of Ireland!
