I received Lost from Shawline Publishing recently for an honest review and although it was far from the story I thought it would be, it was still an enjoyable read.

Very early you start to expect something is going to go wrong but it was far from what I thought it would be. Although the story is mainly about Seb, it really is about the whole family and their journey through all the hell that is going on around them.

There were a few minor things that were a little less favourable for me, being that the story was a little bit disjointed at times and as a mother of an eighteen year old, I know first hand that teenagers and young adults don’t talk in such a formal manner when they say things, and this made it difficult to remember that the characters in the story are different ages and from different generations. I also felt that the side story between Connie and Dr John wasn’t at all necessary and it really didn’t enhance the main story at all. This side story came across as a little forced.

However, I was captivated more and more the closer Seb got to his destination, but one of my favourite things about this book was that the author didn’t stop the story when the main incident took place, but continued the journey of the characters through the emotional turmoil that ensued and how their lives were forever altered for both good and bad.

The characters were created well and all made their mark on the story (yes, there were a couple that are the evil ones 👿) but I must admit that I had a special place for Sally and Tom, who were just the most gorgeous secondary characters, not forgetting Misty, who everyone will love.

When I read a book that has locations in areas that I know (I grew up close to Glen Innes) I get a little more connected and intrigued by the story and Lost is one of them. Overall it is a unique tale that was entertaining and I would recommend others to pick up a copy and read Seb’s tale.

Prologue drew me in to want to read this book.
Set in South East Queensland on a property, seb overhears his dad say something that hurts him deeply, so he leaves the family home to find answers, heading towards Victoria.
Connie his mother is worried sick and goes looking for him. Along the way comes mental health and childhood trauma.
Lots of dark twists and suspense had me wanting to read constantly

Great development of the main character Seb and the family members. Several twists to the storyline with family secrets revealed. Left me wanting more.
