Accidental Vampire

An… accident?
How the hell do you accidentally make a vampire?

I thought getting fired for not being pretty enough would be the worst thing I’d have to face this year.
Turns out, I was majorly wrong.
A catering gig for fast cash at an underground club ended in my death.
And then I woke up.
Trapped in a cell by the man who killed me.
Correction - the vampire who killed me and made me one, too.
By accident.
Now, he’s forcing me into hiding on the fringes of vampire society. And no one can know that I even exist or the Vampire Queen of New York will take my head. And his too.
If that wasn’t stressful enough, becoming a vampire is not great. I keep passing out, my skin is too sensitive, and blood lust is a whole body pain experience. Until it turns into plain old regular lust, and I’m clawing at my maker to satisfy some needs.
Oh, and did I mention I can’t have sex or I risk being magically bound for the rest of my immortal life?
Not that I want to have sex with the wounded, powerful gorgeous man that took my life and turned me into a monster.
Nope. I totally will not fall for him. That would be way too messed up…Right?

I write books that bite.

I have always loved smart, sexy, magical fiction…. When a group of witches, vampires, and shifters started hanging out in my brain, I couldn’t say no and had to make them real on paper!

I LOVE morally gray characters.

I LOVE impossible choices.

I LOVE characters who want to burn it all to the ground. Bonus points if it's to save someone they love.

I enjoyed this book, it took a little while to get into it as the words used to describe the hierarchy in the ‘family’ weren’t explained until later in the book but once I got past that it became easier. The relationship between the main characters is great, it’s good to see them taking time to get together despite their feelings for each other. It is very slow burn in my opinion but the story holds up well and kept me reading, and after the cliffhanger at the end of this book I can’t wait for book 2!

These vampires don't sparkle. Nor do they sizzle away in sunlight. They do, however, bite, using their teeth to feed body and ego, illuminated with keen wit by Amy Nova.

When we first meet Tiffany, whose transformation into vampire is almost as accidental as falling onto a hungry fang, she is being fired for not being pretty enough to suit her (metaphorical) bloodsucking boss. We meet Lachlan, the actual vampire, as he pulls a silver dagger out of his chest, the blow administered by an elegant, high-ranking, and bitchy vamp woman. Lachlan, apparently, has been a bad boy - he's been tasting waitresses at their hideaway, a faux pas far more aggravating than, say, accidentally turning an unsuspecting mortal into a vampire. Which he does.

Tiffany, we learn is an unemployed librarian, hoping to sell her hand-dyed cashmere knitting yarn. Her store-owning friend Christine gasps at the beauty even as she chides Tiffany for the outfit she has chosen to wear to a corporate meeting. ("Are you cosplaying some dark academia headmistress? ... A black velvet choker is the stuff of fantasies.") Tiffany's hopes are ruined by a clumsy customer whose crude attempt to unhook a lacy shawl tips patchouli oil down Tiffany's cleavage, and (worse!) all over her luxury yarn.

Later, Tiffany happens upon a nondescript building where people are bemoaning the lack of enough servers for a private party. Hell, she thinks - that $2000 could pay the rent and buy a lot of new yarn...

The private party is Tiffany's first contact with the world of vampires, who are gathered to pay tribute to the Patron of their Family. Yes, vampires are highly organized creatures, whose hierarchy is ancient and bound by both protocols and blood. Although Lachlan is a Legate - a fixer, in worldly terms - he is distracted by women whose attire seems designed to allure. One woman, for example wears a garotte as a necklace, while others wear black velvet chokers that indicate whether they are there as guests - or as snacks.

One glimpse of Lachlan's former love sends him to a dim hallway, distraught. Tiffany, carrying a tray of mint-scented towels, seeing this beautiful, suffering man, offers him a hug. Tiffany, wearing her black velvet choker necklace, well-intentioned and reeking of patchouli ...

Imagine, if you will, a newly-made vampire whose baby-vamp hungers arise alongside the horror of what has happened to her. Teething takes on a whole new meaning. And so do new, desperate appetites that augment the old in an exquisitely-designed safe house, where Lachlan takes her to keep her safe during this most-unwelcome transition. Tiffany, weak, hungry, and sassier than ever, confronts the powerful Lachlan (" 'Ooh, a vampire,' I said with mocking, scary jazz hands.") Lachlan and Tiffany agree on one thing only: whomever furnished the safe houses - "...barfed up every Pinterest trend from the last decade. It's missing only a Live, Laugh, Love sign on the wall."
And dammit, she misses her knitting. And - hmmm - can vampires get pregnant?

The world of Accidental Vampire is the real world, all right, with Danskos, Mont Blanc pens, Spanx, and vampires playing ping-pong. This reviewer felt right at home.

I can't wait to (sorry) sink my teeth into the next installment. In the meantime, I'll knit.

Five stars!

ARC Team Review

Has your life ever been in the toilet and you are just trying to make it to the next moment? Are you willing to take whatever job comes up to make a few extra bucks? Next time, you might think twice after this unique read by Amy Nova. Our heroine, Tiffany, is (by her description) sassy, funny, and a survivor. Our love interest, Lachlan, is sexy, broody, and borderline whiny; his demons are in the forefront and it can get a wee ponderous at times. However, the side characters in this story are AMAZING. Funny, fascinating, and definitely leave you wanting more of their stories.

This is low on the spice meter; it says it's a slow burn and it's....extremely slow. But I think the buildup will be absolutely worth it!

The book ends on a cliffhanger (WHY, Amy?!) and I will definitely be reading the next in the series!!

I received an ARC e-copy of this book for an honest review.

Ok first off, I'm so mad at this cliffhanger 😡. I read this book way too fast, and now I have to wait. I'm very impatient. But alas this is self-inflicted.

Honestly, I liked all the characters (although I find Aurora very annoying and could live without her). The world building so far is pretty good.

I like the different bonds you can have and how deeply they can affect you.

All in all, this was a very fast and smooth read for me, Tiffany is just starting to come into herself, and hopefully, in the next book she grows even more. Lachlan is... hmmmmm how do I put this, emotionally damaged to the point that he really needs to see someone about all his emotions, but I do like his character and can wait to see how his character grows. All in all, I am giving this book a 4 star.

This might be the first time I rate a book two stars, I believe. Most of the time when I don’t like a book I’ll DNF and it automatically gets one star. The issue with this book isn’t the writing so it was easy to read this book and not be pulling my own hair out. The problem with this book is that it’s boring and there’s no actual plot in it.

This book is the first book in a slow burn/slow build trilogy? That’s no excuse for having actually no storyline in this book. Honestly, you could pick up the second book in the series and having missed nothing apart from the main character trying to get used to being a vampire. You could literally read the last 5% of this book and you’d completely be ready for the second. And I know what you’re thinking. 5%? You’re overexaggerating. I’m honestly not. I was actually enjoying the slower build in this book until I got to 60% of this book and realized nothing was happening. Then I started keeping closer track of the percentage of this book. I got to 90% and was absolutely baffled that there had been no confrontation or anything. So trust, I know it’s the last 5% of the book where the action happens, and that’s being generous with the word “action” for a fantasy novel.

Apart from the pacing issues and no plot issues, some of the characters were really just so unlikeable but in a bad way. Aurora f.e. gave me all the bad vibes and I don’t mind a “bad girl, gives no shits” characters but she was just all the worst stereotypes and it didn’t work for me. Don’t even get me started on vampires being oblivious to a lot of aspects of the human world like an ID. I don’t think it was explained very well how secluded they are, since they live in NYC… The hierarchy and political dynamics were explained too late in the book. At that point I didn’t truly care about figuring it all out.

Phew. I’m honestly glad to get that off my chest, and I feel like I justified my rating to myself more. I had given this book two stars before going to bed yesterday and kept thinking that maybe I was too harsh. But now having written this review, no… I stand by it.

I thought the book started off great at first. I liked where it was going but then it kind of faded out. I felt like it lacked a plot and it was just jumping around. It was a long stretched out read until about chapter 43 and then it felt like everything was rushed all of sudden. This is a very slow burn book with no relief 😅 There are also some spelling errors in the book.

I did however enjoy the characters in the story. I felt bad for poor Lachlan and his pain.
The writer is very descriptive so that was great as well. I also love alternating POVs which this book has.

This book ended on a very big cliff hanger that made me angry because how could it end just like that, after all the slow reading and back and forth. I am all for hyping up for the second book but this was a big cliff to be hanging from.

I liked this book, main characters are very like-able (except Aurora lol), the 1st 3 sentences of chapter 3 proved how much my mind was/is in the gutter lol it was a good laugh & maybe i read too much smut if i thought that was going somewhere else by how it was worded lol

For a debut book for a newbie author this wasn’t a bad start, just maybe do a bit more proofreading/editing next time, lots of spelling/wording errors throughout (I don’t mean this in a bad way, so don’t give up :)

This was an entertaining freshman effort by new author Amy Nova. I enjoyed the vampire lore and mentions of popular vampire “culture” (including Twilight, Interview with a Vampire, and J Ward). It does have an epically slow plot progression. I believe the entirety of the book encompasses the span of two months (at best), with action only happening in minor spurts before hitting us with a hell of a cliffhanger.

Most of the book covers the mental anguish and confusion of a newly formed vampire and how much her being turned could ruin those around her. Much time is also spent with the vampire who turned her, his feelings of guilt, and his own torment, ‘living’ on after the one he loved is gone. Essentially, not much happens for a long time, then everything happens at once, and then the book is over. Cue the killer cliffhanger.

The romance is slow-burn. There is main character-adjacent sex, but the actual MCs do not engage with each other. This is being billed as a slow build why-choose, so I am interested to see where it goes from here. I have suspicions about who will be added to the relationship, but I might be surprised. Vampires are sexual beings, so anyone is fair game.

Even with the slow plot of book one, I am hooked by that ending and look forward to seeing what comes next.

When they say slow burn, they truly mean slow burn, with no fire fighter in sight.

I definitely felt like it dragged a little in the middle but overall I enjoyed the characters. Sometimes I wanted to just shake Tiffany but I feel like her reactions are realistic. I just wanted her to be bad ass and like take charge but that wouldn’t have made sense for the story so I totally get it.

There were a few spelling errors in the book, but not enough to take away from the reading experience. I am excited for the next book I can’t wait to find out what happens after the cliffhanger and also get to know the love interests better.

Mistakes Happen

This was a good debut to a new series. Definitely slow build and slow burn. This book mainly focusses on Lachlan's mistake in k3lling Tiffany and turning her into a new vampire.

We see the changes Tiffany goes through as well as the mental anguish she experiences with this new life. As a result she absolutely h8tes Lachlan for what he's done even if it wasn't intentional.

Lachlan was not a bad guy. He generally made a mistake and was regretful throughout the entire book. Lachlan and Tiffany were definitely enemies but it didn't stop Lachlan from trying to protect Tiffany because if word got back to the Vampire Queen that a new Vamp was created; it would cost them both their lives.

This series will move towards a "Why Choose" story and from book 1 you have a good idea who that will involve. Slowly Tiffany's h8te turns into loathing and soon indifference. Regardless of their differences Tiffany and Lachlan has s3xual tension thick between them. They want each other but Lachlan refrains out of fear of creating a mating bond.

Book 1 was a slow intro to the series and the key characters. From the foundation already establish it's safe to say there will be more Angst, S3xual Tension, Blood and Steam. Looking forward to reading Book 2.

Tiffany should be dead. Desperate for money she took a job that unbeknownst to her was at a vampire club. And on tribute day, a day when all vampires give a blood tribute to the head of their family. Lachlan, trying to escape some painful memories, finds Tiffany and thinking she is another vampire drinks from her. To his horror he realizes she is human and she is dying. He gives her blood and Tiffany is reborn as a vampire. Except the one problem is that Veronica, the head of the family, has forbidden any new vampires being made. Lachlan takes Tiffany to hide as she completes the change and hopes to be able to hide her long enough that Veronica never finds out about her and kills them both.

I enjoyed this book. I had a little trouble with some of the terminology used to describe the hierarchy as it wasn't explained until much later in the book. It made the start of the book a bit rough for me, I felt as confused as Tiffany thrown into this world. Lol. Now one thing I really loved about this book was the transformation itself. Tiffany had to learn to control her vampiric speed, strength, and senses. It was interesting to see that process. She genuinely made me laugh when she was contemplating whether or not vampires still get their periods or not. This was a good start to a series and that cliffhanger just left me wanting more, especially of Shaw, so can't wait until the next book.

I was on the fence with this book honestly….at first. After some time and reading I realized that I actually really enjoyed it!
I also felt like there was a lot going on since there were a lot of characters. Certain few characters need to be kicked, really hard!

Tiffany, just recently fired from her job for not being pretty enough decides she is done with it all. Hence when she is attacked…enter Lachlan. He needs to be kicked. He needed to find something worth “living” and fighting for!
There were a lot of secrets around Tiffany, and I felt bad for her. In all honesty, I think I liked Shaw more.
That ending though! Ugh, I want more Shaw! That cliffhanger!!
Can’t wait for book 2!

It was an interesting read. A lot of...I don't want to say drama, more like angst maybe?
It was slow-burn...very slow, but that's okay. GIves it time for the characters to actually know and learn about each other.

Amy Nova is starting off strong in Accidental Vampire, I didn’t realize this was her debut book when I first started reading it but I am very impressed! This is a slow build, slow burn but there is still a ton of angst and you can tell when the spice comes it’s going to be good!

Tiffany is a normal mortal woman just trying to make a living until her d0uchy boss takes credit for her work and fires her over her looks. Seriously?! She’s much better off without him!
Tiffany ends up overhearing about a job that pays really well and thinks why not?! Note to self…if it sounds too good to be true it usually is. She ends up meeting Lachlan, where you can already feel the sparks just by their meeting and as you can guess she accidentally becomes a vampire. I’m not going to spoil anything but the journey they go on pulls you in fast and keeps you coming back for more. I can’t wait to see how this trilogy plays out!

This was a really good debut from this author. The plot flows a little slowly but compensate with plenty of wit, drama, secrets and twists. I read this quite quickly! The world building is also quite interesting

Love Tiffany, the main FMC. Her life is full of mishaps and who’s just trying to make ends meet. She’s a likeable and relatable character. She is accidentally turned into a vampire and struggles to come to terms with it. Lachlan make for a good broody hero. I think for the rest of the story you’ll need to read it as it would spoil it other wise. Be mindful it is slowww burn!

Ends on a cliffhanger… will I read book 2? Oh yes, it can’t just end there!

If you enjoy slow burn paranormal romance you’ll enjoy this.

Great story

I enjoyed the story but the number of wrong tense words and wrong words through the story made me give it less stars then it deserved. The characters are flawed and human even for vampires, that you fall in love with them . I recommend this book to everyone but the author really needs to either slow down and check her words and sentences seeing the computer may be going to the wrong ones to add or get a better proofreader.

I just finished this book and oh my gosh, my heart is racing and I N E E D more!! The pacing was wonderful and offered unique approach to vampire families and connections that should be explored so much more! Amy Nova has found a way to build a world right under our noses that I found riveting to read about. The spice in this was mild but the medium-slow romance really hit the spot!

Accidental Vampire by Amy Nova is the first in the Accidental Vampire series. This is also a debut novel for this author! We meet Tiffany, who as you guessed, gets turned into a vamp by accident. This is a slow burn. And I mean SLOW. Not much is really happening in that department in this first book. Hopefully the next. There is a cliff hanger. Will read next to see what happens.

This is a strong introduction to both Amy Nova as an author but the Accidental Vampire series. There is no dening that Vanessa is a survivor and shows her strength. There is a lot of emotion in this story including loathing and angst. This is definitely a slow burn and slow build why choose romance. I am excited to see where the story evolves and what comes next.

I struggled with this book. There are a lot of characters and world building which I appreciated but I felt like the plot was slow to get moving. This is the absolute definition of a slow burn romance, but there is most defiantly angst and tension. The ending had me hooked enough to want to try book 2.

Interesting premise but theres like nothing happening in the book. And both MC have said i love u over literally nothing. Nothing is happening in this book. You could read book 2 with just the knowledge that he accidently turns her. And vampires not knowing modern things like ID was so unrealistic. Modern people dressing like they are in the 50s was ick

75% emotional drama; 25% plot. So much potential, but perhaps sequels will have more action (and revenge)... Author also needs to reflect on her biases and stereotypes...

What does one broke human and a depressed vampire have in common? They are now hiding a big secret from a ruthless villainess, both smexually frustrated, and hiding out with a bunch of misfits. Learning to be a vampire just got complicated. And I’m here for it! But can we all take a second to appreciate the cover? It is beautiful and definitely eye catching.

Accidental Vampire throws a few new elements to the traditional vampire romance and it’s a page turner! Lachlan will make you want to reach into the book and give him a hug. The cliffhanger will leave you wanting more.

Spice level (1-5): 🌶️

After being fired and unable to find a job, Tiffany is in need of some quick cash. When she overhears someone needing an extra hand for a catering gig she jumps at the opportunity to make some much needed money. She just didn’t bargain that she’d be working at a party full of vampires. When a mix up ends up getting her turned into a vampire, what could possibly go wrong?

I would recommend Accidental Vampire to anyone who loves a good slow burn. The smexual frustration is real. If you like vampires, a morally grey MMC with a tragic past that haunts him, spunky FMC, likable side characters, found family, a badass best friend, OTM, Amarantha type villainess, forced proximity, you’ll love Accidental Vampire. This book does contain loss of loved ones, drug and alcohol abuse, bad coping habits, gore, if that triggers you this book may not be for you. For all the vampire romance lovers this one is for you.

Warning: Reading Accidental Vampire may make you cautious of hugging strangers. May make you cautious of how you tie scarfs. May make you cautious of odd jobs that pay very well. May make you beware of being kind to strangers. May make you want to be bitten. May make you work all catering gigs in hopes you get bitten. May make you remember feet first. Read responsibly.
