Thursday and all the mice who live in the organ loft in St Mary's in the Valley are planning to launch a showboat. Harris, the vole, with his limitless fund of riddles and jokes, is to be head of entertainment, Baron Munchen is to deal with the technical part - the engine and the dial-a-meal service. Thursday is to be captain. There is one problem: Thursday hasn't the faintest idea how to sail the SS Whatsit. So he is secretly relieved when the mysterious Captain Bucket pops up and offers to help out. But is Captain Bucket friend or foe...? Is he connected with SCREAM...?

Michael Bond, CBE was an English children's author. He was the creator of Paddington Bear and wrote about the adventures of a guinea pig named Olga da Polga, as well as the animated BBC TV series The Herbs. Bond also wrote culinary mystery stories for adults featuring Monsieur Pamplemousse and his faithful bloodhound, Pommes Frites.
