Diese Rezension bezieht sich auf die deutsche Ausgabe dieses Buchs aus dem Dorling Kindersley Verlag (ISBN 3831045860).

Es gibt Dinge in der Menschheitsgeschichte, die verweilen bleibend in der Erinnerung und markieren wesentliche Momente in der Geschichte. Die DK-Redaktion hat sich 21 solcher Dinge herausgesucht, wobei es nicht immer Momentaufnahmen sind, wie z.B. der Tod bzw. der Fund von Ötzi, sondern oftmals langwierigere Ereignisse, wie der Bau der Pyramiden in Gizeh.

Die Vorstellung der Ereignisse erfolgt auf mehreren Seiten, damit zum einen einige Details erklärt werden und zum anderen imposante großflächige Zeichnungen das Ereignis darstellen. Es ergibt sich somit eine Mischung aus Fotos und aktuellen Erkenntnissen und Zeichnungen mit einer möglichen Darstellung. Beides zusammen vermittelt zwar kein tiefgreifendes aber für Kinder durchaus grundlegendes Wissen.

Die Kinder schauen sich beim Betrachten der Bilder auch kleine Details an, die die Zeichner dargestellt haben. Und das führt zu vielen Fragen zu den unterschiedlichsten Bereichen aus dem Leben von damals und heute. So darf Geschichte gern immer vermittelt werden. Zumindest um einen soliden Grundstock zu legen.

Fazit
Dieses Buch lädt Kinder dazu ein, einen Streifzug durch die Geschichte der Menschheit zu unternehmen. Es sind ausreichend viele Details vorhanden, um das Interesse der Kinder zu wecken, ohne diese gleich zu überfordern. Zudem gibt es viele Fotos, Illustrationen und natürlich die großflächigen Zeichnungen, die das erzählt optisch sehr gut in Szene setzen. Unseren Kindern hat das Buch sehr gut gefallen.

Krásná knížka se spoustou ilustrací. Kromě „klasik“ typu starověkého Řecka a Egypta je tu třeba i Angkor, schodišťové studny v Indii, skalní vesnice amerických Pueblanů nebo Věstonická venuše (což je u anglofonní knihy poměrně překvapivé).
