He is best known as the co-creator of the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" book series, which currently has over 124 titles and 100 million copies in print in over 47 languages. According to USA Today, Canfield and his writing partner, Mark Victor Hansen, were the top-selling authors in the United States in 1997.
Canfield received a BA in Chinese History from Harvard University and a Masters from University of Massachusetts. He has worked as a teacher, a workshop facilitator, and a psychotherapist.
Canfield is the founder of "Self Esteem Seminars" in Santa Barbara, and "The Foundation for Self Esteem" in Culver City, California. The stated mission of Self Esteem Seminars is to train entrepreneurs, educators, corporate leaders and employees to achieve their personal and professional goals. The focus of The Foundation for Self Esteem is to train social workers, welfare recipients and human resource professionals.
In 1990,he shared with author Mark Victor Hansen his idea for the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. After three years, the two had compiled sixty-eight stories.
Canfield has appeared on numerous television shows, including Good Morning America, 20/20, Eye to Eye, CNN's Talk Back Live, PBS, The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Montel Williams Show, Larry King Live and the BBC.

Canfield married Judith Ohlbaum in 1971 (divorced, November 1976); he married Georgia Lee Noble on September 9, 1978 (divorced, December 1999); he married Inga Marie Mahoney on July 4, 2001; children: (first marriage) Oran, David, Kyle, Dania; (second marriage) Christopher Noble. He is a Democrat and a Christian, and his hobbies include tennis, travel, skiing, running, billiards, reading, and guitar.

I am what my friends and family affectionately call the Crazy Cat Lady. Therefore I read mostly any book on cats that I can get my hands on, so it's logical for me to pick this one up.
While I loved this book, I freely admit that it is the worst book for a cat lover to pick up because almost every story in it makes you cry, be it from joy, sorrow, or because you're laughing so hard.
Wonderful stories, but don't pick it up unless you want a good cry...

I skipped over all the Cat Lover's Soul stories, since I read that book some years ago. This wasn't as good as the last Chicken Soup cat book I read but, nevertheless... Cats! You can't really go wrong anyway.

In 2008, Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul helped me to cope with my heartbreak when I had to put down my sweet Prince. Thirteen years later, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Loving Our Cats has helped to ease my heartache over losing my sweet Katy. The stories are sweet, heartwarming, and sometimes heartbreaking: but every one is about someone who understands how special it is to be loved by a cat.

This was a sweet little book but some of the recollections are kinda flat. Some are super sweet and others I have no clue why they were important to include.
For the record I skipped the last 9-10 stories because they dealt with a loss of a cat and I just can’t bring my self to go there.

Great Heartwarming stories of families and individuals love and time with their precious fur babies! It brought back many cherished memories of my beloved furs family that have passed on and made me appreciate my current fur babies even more!

"The best things in life... purr."
If I had a nickel for every time there was a story in here about someone murdering all the cats inside an adoption center, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

I would have given this book 5 stars if it wasn't for a few stories that just made me go, "Really? Why was that included?" Aside from a few tales that seemed out of place, this was a really lovely collection. I especially enjoyed reading it with my cats nearby, even when my 4 month old kitten started chewing the corner of the book.

July 31, 2015There are, as one would expect, nice short stories in this book. The end, however, breaks the good mood as they are just one tearjerker after another. While it is a fact of life that all pets die, I didn't need more than a chapter of stories to remind me. Not a good way to end. I recommend skipping the end.

After reviewing so many books about murder, terrorism and sadistic families, I was desperately in need of something uplifting. This book is definitely heartwarming and has put me back on an even keel.

I've never read any of the "Chicken Soup..." books. A friend and fellow cat lover gave me this one. It was a delight to find that the world is filled with cat lovers and future cat lovers in some cases. I laughed and cried.

A hodge podge of stories about peoples' experiences with their cats. At the time I didn't relate to it much because, as I was looking to adopt, I sought something more instructional. I'd probably like it better now.

Picked up one of these Chicken Soup for the Soul books with Cat stories and an reading each of them. Great stories, some funny, some sad, but all worth reading. Definitely recommend this book!
