An engaging range of period texts and theme books for AS and A Level history. The twelve years, from 1933 to 1945, when Adolf Hitler was dictator of Nazi Germany stand out as one of the most remarkable periods in the history of the twentieth century. In many books on this subject, the personality of Hitler is so dominant that significant political, social, economic and international developments often retreat into the background. In this book Frank McDonough explains the dramatic history of the Nazi period within a wider context. By isolating key problem areas within current historical debates and by including a selection of primary source documents.
Professor Frank McDonough is an internationally renowned expert on the Third Reich. He was born in Liverpool, studied history at Balliol College, Oxford and gained a PhD from Lancaster University.

This book is worth having in your personal library
A detailed yet synthesized exploration of Hitler and the Nazi Regime, with a balanced discussion of facts and review of several historical perspectives on matters such as the Holocaust, the importance of Nazi economy, as well as foreign policy and other aspects of the regime, and different extracts from primary and secondary sources to finish each chapter. I read it in preparation for my exams and found that it gave a great overview of the topics I have studied, covering everything from the rise of the Nazi Party to Hitler's foreign policy, life inside Nazi Germany, the Nazi state and economy, as well as details on opposition to the regime and accounts of the events of The Second World War. Another plus was the language and word-choices, which were easy to understand and not very complex, which can sometimes be a bit of a strain when reading studies of history. Worth a read for both history students and those with a general interest alike!
A comprehensive guide when Adolf Hitler was dictator of Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945. Straight to the point excerpts of information. Easy to read and understand.
