Orianna, a high school senior, is watching her life plummet into chaos after the hit-and-run that killed her parents and sister that summer. Now November, she has been forced to move in with her poor aunt and uncle in the Bronx, both suffering from addictions and struggling to pay rent. The diary belonged to a young woman named Sophia, and the parallels in both of their lives become clear once Sophia recounts the disappearance of her family after the arrival of a man with pale eyes. The next morning, to her horror, Orianna discovers that the man who killed her family has followed her to Mackinac. All at once, Orianna finds herself transported back one hundred years on the island, united with Sophia, and on the run from the man who destroyed both of their lives out of old revenge...
