Divine Creek Ranch #5

Spurs and Heels

Rate this book
Ash Peterson falls for her the moment he lays eyes on her. She’s a stereotypical city girl, from her manicure to her high heels. Judging by the sparks that fly between them, he knows there’s a fire burning deep inside the blue-eyed beauty. But department store manager Juliana Meyers is thrown by her attraction to Ash. Everything about this quintessential cowboy sets her on edge, from his Stetson and mutton chop sideburns down to his dusty boots and spurs. All he’s gotta do is walk into a room with those damn things jingling and she’s putty in his hands.

When Ash unintentionally injures Juliana, he feels that it’s his responsibility to look after the hoity-toity redheaded workaholic. He pushes her to reexamine her perfectionist lifestyle, but it’s hard for Juliana because she’s used to doing things her way. Can she learn to relax and let him lead?

Heather Rainier

Heather Rainier lives and writes in South Central Texas. Her stories offer up the content of her fantasies, with humor, tragedy, and triumph mixed in.

Heather's love of romance fiction began as a teenager when her mom gave her copies of Kathleen Woodiwiss's "The Flame and the Flower" and Bertrice Small's "Skye O'Malley". To this day she's pretty sure that was her mom's version of the "birds and the bees" talk.

Heather writes the type of novel she loves to read: More erotic and edgy than the mainstream, with plenty of sweet romance mixed in and a happily ever after guaranteed. Heather's favorite type of hero is the gentle, lovable giant but readers will discover a wide variety of heroes and alphas on the pages of her novels.

When not at her keyboard, Heather is usually busy corralling her teenagers, or loving on her smokin' hot husband, who thankfully loves to cook.

Heather invites readers to e-mail her at heather.rainier@yahoo.com and also to visit her website at www.heatherrainier.com

Oooooh. I was definitely looking forward to this pairing especially after reading about Ash carrying Juliana off to the hospital kicking and screaming. Ash has a way of setting Juliana off with everything he says which is really amusing.

It wasn't a very memorable pairing but definitely was still enjoyable to read. I adored Ash right from the start when he first appeared. Heather managed to sculpt him perfectly, his adoration of Juliana without making him seem weak and an alpha male but not an asshole.

I was in the mood for a fun romance and this just did it for me. The plot wasn't that practical with how fast their relationship was moving but I loved it :D It's all about the mood. And Ash was just too sexy of a cowboy for me to resist.

Ash Peterson has a way of setting of Juliana Meyers with every word he speaks, the fiery tempered has a way of telling him off and trying to put him in his place. Ash though wont be detered from what he wants and it is Juliana. Through a series of comical events, the two find a comfortable rhythm as their relationship continues to grow even with a few hurdles set in their way.

I liked this one, dragged a slight bit at the end but otherwise a fun read.

***Reread because I was thinking of the mutton chop sideburns and the way Ash handles a volatile Juliana, whose potty mouth is trying to intimidate him. I think this was better the second time around.

Ash suffers from foot in mouth but his heart is sweet.
Juliana was dumped by her cheating boyfriend on Christmas Day, so had a reason to be upset but as there was no emotional connection between her and the ex, she is OTT in her attitude.
When she is hurt by Ash in a genuine accident, her behaviour is terribly bad.
This see sawed for quite a while, then Ash once again had his head up his butt but he paid for it very well when chasing after Juliana.
A bit sad that he spoilt her big news.

SPURS AND HEELS is the latest book in the Divine Creek Ranch and is my favorite so far! I loved Ash and Juliana as a couple and really just could not get enough of them.

Ash sees Juliana at the Divine Creek Ranch and instantly falls for the fiery redhead. He seems to have a knack for ticking her off though, and darn if seeing her pissed off at him doesn't make him want her more. He doesn't let her anger stop him from going after her, although he seems to be doing more apologizing than wooing.

Juliana is definitely uneasy about her attraction for Ash, and he seems to be able to make her angrier than anyone else. So, when Ash accidentally injures Juliana, she's not sure that she wants the hot cowboy taking care of her. But as he does such a wonderful job, she's starting to see that maybe she doesn't always have to be in control.

Juliana and Ash are just about perfect. The city girl and the country boy. I don't think I've seen a couple that set off such sparks. Underneath all that anger and irritation, it was obvious that Juliana wanted Ash so bad she could taste it. And, Ash's easy going attitude was the perfect counterbalance to Juliana's type-A personality. It was pretty comical though, the way he kept putting his boot in his mouth. He couldn't get anything right when it came to Juliana in the beginning. I'm chuckling just thinking about it.

The relationship between Juliana and Ash certainly gets off to a rocky start, but they soon settle into quite the routine together, and it's good for both of them. The love scenes were erotic, steamy, but extremely sweet. You could see the depth of emotion that they both had for each other, even before they said the words.

This book is the fifth book in the Divine Creek Ranch series, which follows people who live on and around the ranch. While it is part of the series, it can easily be read as a standalone. But I guarantee that if you read this book, you'll want to go back and read the others. The characters in the series are fantastic and are written in a way that makes you care about them. It was nice to visit with the characters from other books to see how they are doing.

There's extensive worldbuilding that is fantastic in this book and the others in the series. It makes the area of Divine its own little world and a place that I want to visit again and again. I love when a series revisits previous couples and characters. It gives me a more wellrounded picture and gives a glimpse of what happens after that happily ever after.

So, SPURS AND HEELS is another great addition to the Divine Creek Ranch series. With its perfectly matched couple, fantastic chemistry, amazing world-building and great characters, I don't think I could have asked for anything better.

In this fifth novel in the Divine Creek Ranch series, Heather Rainier continues to share the stories of people connected with the ranch and who form an important part of the town and community. The heroine is different from any of the other characters that have appeared in these novels--she is city born and bred and is committed to being the best retail manager she can be. She knows nothing about Texas politics and certainly has little if any knowledge about ranching, but the attraction between her and Ash Peterson, the new foreman of Divine Creek Ranch is unmistakable and for Juliana, terribly inconvenient and and threatens to wreck havoc on her carefully ordered, albeit sterile and loveless life. It is a fun read that chronicles the journey of an over-committed business woman into a woman who can relax and enjoy who she is and the people in her life. Ash Peterson knows how to push her buttons and at first manages to keep her pretty riled up. Ultimately Juliana must choose her job and working 60+ hours weekly or finding some personal fulfillment with a man who adores her and who wants to give her some room to breathe. A very enjoyable read.

4.5 stars (only because I almost never give a 5)

Loved this book and I had delayed reading it because the description just didn't get me interested... turned out this is one of my favorites! Ash Peterson and Juliana are so funny, seem so mismatched at first, but work out to be a truly lovely couple. I think the menage stories just don't lend as much space for character development, especially for each man as individuals. This one allowed us to know Ash and Juliana pretty well.

This whole series is good, and with the introduction of new characters in this book, I am really hoping there are more stories to come and I will buy them all. I love that all the previous characters lend a little to the story, but the author doesn't let them take over the story line of each book the way some authors do.

For best effect, start at Book 1, 'Divine Grace' (Divine Creek Ranch 1)

I really liked the ending, it was very well played. First off, I like the sweetness between Ash and her (I forgot her name), it's so true true love. Especially at the end of their phone sex, it's like a heart warming and heart wrenching feeling. Then when Allen and she was talking, I just know there's gonna be a misunderstanding. A huge one. Ash was a big ass at that time especially when she leaned on him and he went away. It hurts and I admit I shed a tear (yes just one XD)
Then Ashes the cute cat! I love him. :) :) :) :)
The ending was perfect. And I have a question, does sex really enhances labor? I thought they can't have sex when they're almost in labor? But I have read a lot that says sex enhances labor. Isn't there a medical study about this?

I thought that this one was just ok, things seemed to move at super speed. Juliana went from getting a breakup phone call from her boyfriend of 5 years to sleeping with Ash within a month of meeting him, which was the same night of the call.

There were a couple of funny moments, that probably weren't meant to be. The first was when Juliana used every swear word in the world after getting hurt. The other was when Ash got yelled at and beat on by his sisters at the Dancing Pony after he was an ass to Juliana.

Julianna needs to start living for herself more instead of for her job, but until the right incentive comes along she doesn't see the reason why....Ash believes that he fell for the fiery red head the first time he talked to her, can he convince her to let him show her a little cowboy love....and when problems arise can they keep it together or are they at the end just too different... I really enjoyed this one...onto the next

Not as good as the others by HR
This book was not as good as the others by this author. Something was missing, I think the heroine was uptight and made it difficult for me to see her letting go in the relationship. In some ways I liked her fiery moments more than when she was all soft and accepting, but what was really missing was the hero's point of view which was "why did he like her?"

Ash and Juliana are walking fireworks! These two have chemistry that would make a nun hot and bothered! Juliana takes a little while but realizes that what she has always pictured as what she wants, isn't what she wants at all. She realizes that her desires are for the sexy hot cowboy that is head over heels in love with her!

This has to be my favourite book so far. My issues are books too long like most of them and the description of Ash's face (mutton chops) really turn me off him. Otherwise good story and great HEA but I do think Juliana forgive him too quickly.

Love a Cowboy

Ash falls in love with Juliana even before he knows she's free from her cheating rat bastard mommas boy, boyfriend. Can she stop working long hours and find happiness.

This story is much better reading than the first few, quite sexy and great to see some emotional variance in the characters.

Of all of the books in the series, this one is my least favorite. I did not like the characters at all.
