Very average take on the rise on Fisk with a bit of the early days of Spiderman thrown in. Though Fisk was both cunning and dangerous and there was a bit of Bugsy Malone about the whole thing, it just never came together and just seem to plod along. Unlike Daredevil & Punisher crime stories, there was nothing here that showed Fisk is that great grey horrible light he occupies. Read if you like Kingpin, miss if you're not too bothered.

interesting look at kingpin's start. not really that good, and some of fisk's plan doesn't make sense or seems like massive leaps in logic

The 4 stars are an average - 5 for the excellent Sean Phillips/Klaus Janson artwork, and 3 for the story, which should have been better, coming as it did from the pen of Bruce Jones.

This was an odd phase in Wilson Fisk's life that I'm not sure I ever want to revisit. Like a C movie about organized crime.
