The Hill of Fools

Rate this book
In 1680 in the face of a bloody Pueblo Indian revolt Franciscan monks race to hide a fortune of gold and silver. Their desperate mission is successful but forgotten. Only the determination of a lone priest keeps the secret alive. In the late Twentieth Century purely by accident the Vatican discovers the existence of the lost treasure and is determined to recover what it regards as its own sacred property. Rome enlists the help of a commercial geologist and mining engineer, an expert in aerial radar scanning, whose reluctant efforts do not go unchallenged by the criminal elements on whose land the gold and silver are hidden. Duplicity and bad luck threaten to destroy him and his recovery team, and only his loyalty to a friend and his love for a woman push him to succeed.
