The Demon’s Bargain by New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author, Lisa Alder, is the first book in the Demons Unleashed paranormal romance series. When the Demon bargains for one night of her pleasure...no one loses. Vetis, the Demon of Corruption, is bored. The bargain is struck. One night. Of HER pleasure. And the debt will be paid. Ill-used by her husband, Amara believes she is doomed, for she has no pleasure within her, her innocence forfeit long ago. But as Amara’s body awakens with sinful desires and carnal longings, hope begins to blossom that pleasure is within her reach. Demons never fail and the challenge is on. First.. I'm never quite sure how to rate books on here when they come in at 3.5 (or any other .5 score for that matter.) This one wasn't quite a 4, but 3 seems kind of low. Hmm.... I suppose that's a debate for another time.
The Demon's Bargain may have been short, but it definitely wasn't lacking in content. I guess my only problem with it, and what essentially kept me from giving it a full 4 stars was that things went a little fast. I know that she was being seduced by a demon (a very patient, thorough demon at that) but she had some serious issues with sex in general so Amara's total turn around just seemed like it should have taken a little longer. I know, I'm probably over analyzing it, but that's just how I felt when I finished it.
The story was great otherwise and it made for a perfect late night quick read. It also got me interested in what happens next so Demons Unleashed definitely warrants some further reading.
I received The Demon's Bargain as a free download from Amazon on April 10, 2013.
A quick, hot fantasy novella about a demon finding a woman's icy detachment a challenge he can't resist to assuage his boredom. Meanwhile, a war between demon and fae with humans in the middle rages and a conspiracy is afoot.
Enough background to be interesting, some character development, hot and sensual encounters including a threesome and more leading to a woman discovering pleasure and something more at the hands of a demon who realizes he wants more than he bargained for.
I’m not sure about this book. It took me awhile to get into it. Toward the end I enjoyed it. Don’t know if I will read others in the series. Maybe if they are free.
This was picked up as a group read for one of my GR groups but (as usual) I messed the timing up and ended up reading it on my own. However, this was AWESOME! and I am hugely grateful to my Kickers friends who turned me on to this author.
I really enjoyed this book and the world that this author has created. n the prologue we learn about the demons and their enemies and the way that they came to her earth (in our future). The first book is set in 2025 so we have a few years left.
This book is relatively short and focuses mainly on the home of Vetis, Demon of Corruption, and Amara, the wife of one of Vetis' "victims". They spend most of their time in his home where we learn about their lives and how the way they lived and all that they were forced to endure shaped them into the people they are currently. We do see a little bit of the outside world in this book and also meet a second demon.
As I said, I enjoyed this book immensely and actually, first time ever (since I got my Paperwhite in October 2013) I went on to Amazon and bought the next two books and read them. Till about 5 or so in the morning cause it was one of those "can't sleep so might as well read" nights. Book 2 and 3 are even better and I have definitely found a new author to enjoy for the foreseeable future.
Wow, this was a surprisingly good sex fest/novella;-) And it was free on Amazon.com
10 years ago, an earthquake released the demons from their underground prison, where they'd been trapped by the fae for nillennia. Now they're free to roam the Earth again, and prepare for the inevitable war with the fae. To gather their strenght, both the fae and the demons must feed off of human emotions, greed, lust, fear. But when a down-on-his-luck gambler offers his sexually traumatized wife as payment to the demon of corruption, he finds that revenge can wait... He'll do anything to awaken her lust. And he certainly awakes it... Ahem, well, this is the most un-demonlike demon I've read about. If every man was as attentive in bed as Vetis, I do believe the world would be a better place;-) So yeah, liked that aspect a lot. The lack of world building, however made me detract stars. True, this is only a short novella, but I would have liked to know a little more... 3.5, possibly even 4★ Still, this series warrants further investigation, I think...
The world building in this book was surprisingly good for such a short story, kudos to the author for managing to fit it all in. The romance was fast but sweet... if you can overlook the dubcon. Amara is essentially sold to a demon of corruption to pay off her husband's debts, something the rat bastard has done many times before. Since she has been sexually abused in the past she is understandably traumatized and doesn't believe herself capable of feeling pleasure. Vetis the demon makes the bargain require *her* pleasure because he is looking for a 'challenge' sort of. Amara is very passive at the start of the book and although we see from Vetis' perspective that he wouldn't force her... she doesn't actually know that. Amara thinks that she can't say no and this is where the dubcon comes in. Sure Vetis does his best to be kind to her and heal her past trauma, he doesn't really give her a choice... so yea that left me feeling squiffy.
The Demons Bargain is a very hot torrid erotic read. So, you get lots of hot sex along with a small, but good storyline. This demon Vetis stops at nothing to make this lady Amara know that she is to be cherished and not abused as she has been by her husband. I was very compelled to find out how he was going do it. I loved how the author wrote the sex between Vetis and Amara it was very caring and thoughtful. There’s mention of anal sex. The author made the world build clear and easy to read. I enjoyed the characters and I hope the author goes on to write a story for the hot demon Zepar.
Recommend to erotic paranormal romance or sci-fi romance readers that want a quick extremely hot read.
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this short story, now I'm a fan! Can't wait for the nest release!! First off let me point out a few things. 1) there is no 'devil' worshipping. It's a paranormal romance with a different background for demons. If you're too stodgy, remember to read the Damn title. 2) 3 partners sexually is a touch a go spot for me. This was a great in between, nothing that would take away from the main characters. 3) I loved how the hero took care of our heroine both physically and mentally.
A dark and spicy short. "Corruption is defined as getting someone to do something they believe they would never do." The demon of corruption is intrigued when a gambler offers up his wife to settle his debt.
For being a short story, this book was pretty awesome. Vetis was sexy as hell, He was dominant, yet sweet and caring. Amara was so guarded, yet Vetis broke through her walls. I highly enjoyed this book. I would recommend. <3
I had this novella for years and it just got buried in the TBR mount! In fact, it and two others from the same series were bought in the early days I acquired my tablet (thus e-books). Come to think of it, today I would not spend USD3.99 on a 87-page story, no matter who the author is.
This is one of those "enjoy it while it lasts" stories: the sex scenes are decriptive, the chemistry between the protagonists is good (balanced, not one-sided), and there is a story arc based on a decent world-building; but it can also be forgettable, simply because of its length. In other words, it will be promptly forgotten because I haven't spent enough time reading and the ending is reached.
Perhaps the best course of action would be to read the other two stories immediately and together they might form a more memorable experience?
For the record, this is the love story between Vetis the Demon of Corruption and human woman Amara, who is pawned by her abusive husband.
Great read if you enjoy stories with Fae Court undertones
For those familiar with fae dynamics, they will find a similar tension as other stories depicting the conflict between the Courts. Treachery, deception and trickery keep you hooked until you are able to discover the intricacies of these groups. The book also lays a great foundation for the main conflict while proving an engaging standalone tale.
Vespir the demon of corruption, is owed a debt by Amara's husband that he can't pay. Instead of sacrificing himself to the demon, he decides to trade his wife instead. But what better way to corrupt someone who has only known pain than by introducing them to a world of pleasure?
The author certainly packed a LOT of sex, fore play & erotica into this short (87 page) novella!! I didn't over analyse this book it is what it is. Think porn with an Ok story that's secondary to the sex. The pace & agenda of this short tale didn't allow me time (or depth) to really connect with the characters but that's OK - it isn't that kind of book ;-)
O have read this story twice now and have enjoyed it both times. I loved the spiciness and heat it generated and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series! Xoxoxo
Such an interesting story. I dealt enjoyed the uniqueness and flavor of each character. It is different, titillating, hot, and steamy, full of passion, lust, and love! I can't wait to read more in this story
I don't know why but I'm always surprised on how well these erotic’s are crafted, how the sex just flows seamlessly into the story line. Before I got into these I always thought erotic’s were just adult books, meaning they just had sex added into them. Nothing more than that. Just an added bonus for the adults out there. But now I see erotic’s are different from adult books, I see they're two different things really. Adult books just have the added bonus but the erotic’s have a well-placed steamy scene that help move along the storyline. And I absolutely love that. Absolutely. I just can't get enough and my favorites are of course paranormal.
Anyways, where I'm going with this is that this is another well-crafted erotic and I want more of the tale. The storyline is very original and for most of the background story it felt like a fairytale. You know, "Once upon a time" feel to the Demons and Fae's history. From the very beginning I was hooked and this feel made it so much more intriguing. It was definitely unexpected and I loved that!
I also loved how slowly but surely we learnt about Amara's past. Okay, it wasn't slow because this is a novella but the bits and pieces were placed perfectly throughout the story, we were never bombarded with her history. Which is another thing that readers will love because you'll just crave to want to get to know her. It's one of those past where you're just dying to know, dying to know why she's become so cold and emotionless, but it’s also one where you're afraid of what might be hiding in the shadows.
And with the help of Vetis, Demon of Corruption, we're able to have courage to go chin up in those shadows as he breaks down Amara's wall as he shows her that she can have pleasure after all. With Vetis you can't help but swoon and for me (like I'm sure with most women out there....hopefully) when I read these I always seem to imagine my significant other. My man and let’s just say it makes the books that much hotter haha. Sorry family members.....but come on, I'm sure y'all know by now haha.
Now, I read a reviewer didn't like this cause they fell in love after sex, but its more than that. Plus, they spend like three whole days together haha. Him trying to get to know her and him wanting to show her another side to the sex world. She too later finds out more about him when she finally breaks down her walls. But anyways, what I'm saying is from Amara's view point this is the first time she's ever gotten a gentle touch from a man and we all know if ones been abused for so long and they finally experience a gentler person they of course fall easily for them. Vetis’s point of view is that he just wants to protect her from her evil bastard of a husband. Damn gambler >_<. So in my eyes, they fell in love in a different kind of way. But we all have our opinions.
Overall I devoured this and I just couldn't put down my tablet. Though I'm not giving this five bats because there were some edit problems and the ending, well I wasn't totally satisfied. I felt like it ended kind of suddenly, maybe not, but I wanted more of the war between the Demons and the Fae. I guess my lack of satisfaction is because the sequel to this has different characters, so I'm kind of afraid that the powerful subplot of the war is going to be shoved to the side. It'll just all be rehashed to us, no real movement into it. But I hope I'm wrong and the awesomeness of this author's storytelling will shine through.
Forewarning: when reading this make sure your husband, boyfriend, or lover is nearby as there is major foreplay in here that you’ll just be dying to try…..especially if you love chocolate ;)
I was taken aback by Amara’s experiences early in the story and did consider not continuing The Demon’s Bargain, but I was curious as to how the story would play out. While I’m still discomfited by Amara’s life with her husband, I did like that she did improve herself--even though I’m skeptical of such “improvements” happening so quickly. Of course, Vestis is a demon so I guess he has “superpowers.”
At times like this, I really wish that GR allowed for half stars because this is a solid 3.5.
After being imprisoned for a bazillion years by the Fae, demons escape the bowls of Earth and are once again free to partake upon the pleasures (and emotions) of humans. A war ensued and surprise, surprise, humans got their butts kicked back to the medieval age. A technology free world has now moved humans down the food chain and treachery is abound.
Enter Vetis, Demon of Corruption who is bored and on a whim accepts the bargain set aside by a low-life gambler who is trading his wife, Amara, for forgiveness of his debts. Vetis agrees for one night of her pleasure. But never trust a demon because he never said which night.
Suffice to say that things don't go exactly as anyone planned.
I was very pleasantly surprised by this short (around 26K) smutlette. I tend to hesitate at erotica simply because of the abundance of ridiculous scenarios masquerading as plot. But this little jewel not only turned out darker than I expected, it also had a solid plot running through it.
A few things keep me from giving it four stars. The prologue was awkward. I really had to push through it and it was short. The light menage scene left me wanting more actually and I'm not even a huge fan of threesome scenes. The Graces deserved a full scene. For a minute there I thought that the author was going to push the envelope to add some f/f action, but alas that didn't happen. I really think that just those two things (menage & f/f) would have pushed a hot story into the scorching stratosphere. Finally, I could have done without the syrupy ending that was bordering on a cringe worthy overdose of sugar.
I definitely rec it as a darkish smutty quick read (and its a value for the price). It is an entertaining smutlette and worth it if you are fan of paranormal erotica (esp when demons are involved ;).
This was WONDERFUL! I've read the series out of order, I think. This is one of three books (not exactly a series, each book has a different demon hero and female counterpart) and I think it's easily the best of the three. Vetis the Demon of Corruption is bored. But when a local gambler brings his cold, indifferent wife as a means of settling his debt, Vetis finds her to be a challenge he can't refuse. After two years of marriage and countless incidents of unspeakable abuse, Amara's only protection against both her husband and the demon is to wrap herself in a shield of icy emotionlessness. She knows better (even if her fool husband does not) than to bargain with demons, but the deal is struck, the die is cast, and the only thing standing between her and freedom is one night of pleasure in Vetis the Demon's bed. But not just any pleasure. This time, the pleasure must be hers. It's a challenge that Vetis is determined to win, but what neither counted on was how many days it might take to get to that one night of pleasure...or that both just might lose their hearts in the process.
This is a keeper. It's fifteen short chapters, so roughly a novella, but well worth the price of the book. Lisa Alder knows how to write a good seduction. There were a handful of typos; not many, but the book could use another edit. But that is a minor complaint when you come across a story as good as this one, a dark hero as masterfully written as this one is, and a heroine who went through such hell and still emerged on the other side, strong and beautifully undefeated. I'll definitely read it again, and I'd recommend it in a heartbeat!
Holy smokes, Batman! Where has this series been all my life? It has all the things I adore and want more of... a sexy beast of a hero, a damaged heroine, a despicable ass of a husband who needs to get his comeuppance... If I weren't sitting in my chair right now I'd be bouncing all over the place.
Maybe this was just the perfect book for the type of mood I was in, but everything about it worked for me. I LOVED how Vetis was determined to replace Amara's memories of degradation and pain with ones that gave her pleasure to remember. I loved that Amara's abuse is addressed head on. I loved that Vetis pulls out all the stops to get through to her. In fact, I'm getting a little swoony thinking about it.
I really, really loved the world that Lisa Alder has created. I'm a sucker for demons and broken societies and this book took both and mixed them up nicely. Did I mention the demons? Let's face it, demons are one of my favorites for a reason and Vetis pushed all my buttons. So to speak. I like that these demons were imprisoned by the Fae as a means for the Fae to steal all the energy of the humans for themselves (Dudes, not a spoiler. This is laid out in the opening prologue and is some AWESOME setup for this world). It was a nice twist on the idea that the Fae are inherently good and it pulled me in from the start.
The sex is smokin', the demons sizzle and the world packs a punch. I am totally looking forward to reading more in this series.
I was actually shocked by this book. I guess mostly due to the fact that it is hard for me to read or watch scary. But I had no idea what I was getting into until I read the book. OMG!!! For a short story it was AWESOME. The Demon’s Bargain by New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author, Lisa Alder, is the first book in the Demons Unleashed paranormal romance series.
Vetis, the Demon of Corruption, is not only bored, but he is restless and seeking a distraction. It’s too easy to tempt humans into committing horrible acts, but when a gambler comes in looking to rid of debt by giving Vetis his wife for his own use. Once Vetis sees the rage in Amara and the sexless way she endures his touch, Vetis realizes that he has something to challenge him now. He will see how long it takes him to wear through Amara's defenses and gets her to enjoy not only his touch, but the pleasure he can give her. So he strikes a bargain with the gambler and Amara has to only give Vetis one night of pleasure and the debt will be paid. Amara has been used and abused by her husband and she believes herself doomed because she can't find any pleasure within herself. Vetis is a Demon and he knows that Demons never fail and with the right sensual persuasion the debt will be paid. But Vetis has one problem, he has fallen in love with Amara.
BRIEF SUMMARY Vetis is the Demon of Corruption and is a little bored. The Demons magick are fuel by human emotions. When Edward, a gambler uses his wife, Amara, to bargain his debt, Vetis is excited of a new challenge that he sees in Amara.
THOUGHTS I gave this book 3.5 stars, which is still a nice read. However, this book has Demons and a lot of talk about Faes. If you are looking for an action packed read this may not be your thing. However, if you're looking for an erotica with a demon with a bit of plot then this is your book. Amara has had a rough life with her husband and detest him with a passion. Vetis was an interesting demon; his scenes with Amara were erotic and nice. Reading the book from start to finish felt like a long foreplay between the characters, though Amara had a lot of emotional damage to get over. We were introducd to Zepar, Demon of Seduction. He was a nice mix between Vetis and Amara.
