J Timmons was a professor who practiced in real business world what he taught at University. Thus the book is excellent tool for starting entrepreneurs, very useful for those whose small companies experience low growth rates and remarkable for theorists who want to write books of interest for practitioners.

I had to read this at university but over the time it has helped me win millions of dollars in business for my employers and helped me organize new ventures effectively and honestly. The information and tools in this book are almost like an MBA in one IMHO.

A bit too “text booky” for my liking when discussing the topic of entrepreneurship. Could have been a more engaging read but the templates are useful.

While I anticipated some more technical analysis and skills, this book helped me realise that is often just a small part of the entrepenerial process. This book was quite interdisciplinary and has substantial useful information that I have no doubt I'll return to many times.

Required reading (with exercises) for the MAIE Program (Masters of Applied Innovation and Entrepreneurship) University of Adelaide, Australia back in 2015.
I own the version copyrighted 2011 "A Pacific Rim Perspective" with an orange coloured cover.
700 odd pages. Small type, thin paper. Also contains charts.
I've owned businesses and been an office holder. Additionally have had the advantage of working in the legal industry for 3 decades with concentrations in commercial divisions of a number of law firms in Queensland Australia along with being both employed and contracted to author and train. Furthermore, I have been involved in litigation proceedings as a victim of negligent financial advice and subsequent Ponzi Scheme. These types of cases fall under Federal Law, predominantly the Corporations Act. The Corporations Act is relevant where business is concerned with the Australian Regulator ASIC subject to its legislation. Compounded by assorted repercussions involving other courts and legislation I have gained expansive exposure. That said, I am not dismissing the contents of this text resource in any way.
My perspective for the utilization of this text book, outside of academic requirements, is for the business owner and entrepreneurial minded to obtain a copy for your library of source material.
In my opinion with broad experience in mind, this text suits for example:
- Uni students with their lives ahead of them, yes, this text book is a treasure trove, understandably academic reading.
- Credence to lived experience and entrepreneurs in action: Acknowledging pace of the environment in which entrepreneurs and business ventures are driven - indicative of a "need to know and relevance at the time" objective in many cases, this text book would better suit as index and reference source.

A good-quality textbook which encompasses all aspects of establishing and leading a new venture. Noteworthy are the focus on recognizing opportunity for a venture, possible troubles and ways to deal with them. One of the biggest values of the book is a great focus on entrepreneurial finance - from obtaining financing, to managing cash flow, to exiting and harvesting gains. Interesting, diverse and detailed cases in the end of each chapter, which are based on real characters and stories.

A definite read for any aspiring entrepreneur. Even though it's a textbook, it's really good and really delves into the process of venture creation. Probably the only textbook I ever enjoyed reading.
