When the one true love of your life sacrifices herself helping you escape from a secret Soviet weapons lab, it is your duty to stay a free man. Even after you have forgotten why you are running. The Scatterbrain Project, that is exactly what Thomas Alexander does for 40 years. As a homeless drifter he wanders across the US being continually protected and hidden away by the spirit of his lost love, a once young Latin doctor from the lab. The pursuing Soviet agents stumble onto his location as her power wanes over the decades and Thomas is left to rediscover his past and the reason for the agent’s pursuit. Through his vivid and sometimes lurid dreams, he is shown the pieces of his youth and his path toward the future. He is the last of a handful of human secret weapons developed by the Soviets during the Cold War. Inside his head lies an implant that, through a combination of science and ancient magic, causes his dreams to rewrite the reality of the waking world. The Soviets wish to trigger a unique dream from him, one that will cause the final destruction of the US. In his struggle to thwart the agents and to escape, Thomas realizes his only true sanctuary is inside the dreams, to merge with his lover and to make his most personal visions come true.
