I absolutely love this volume. You get to know Haruhi a little more personally than in the first two. Not by choice mind you, but I’ll take what I can get!! It’s hilarious and the Host Club’s antics are just too entertaining! Of course Haruhi and the twins are still my favs, but honestly Mori is creeping into the picture, like the awesome ninja that he is. The extra short in the back from Haruhi’s childhood is just too sweet!!! This is a reread, but I loved it as much if not more than the first time I read it!!

Okay real review time!
I am absolutely in love with this manga series! Even though what I've read so far is very similar to the anime, I'm still really enjoying it.
The twins are probably my favourite characters and I can tell them apart very easily hehe.
These are such quick reads and I'm really looking forward to reading more very soon!
To anyone who is a little hesitant about reading Manga, I highly recommend this series!

Is it weird that Kyoya is my favorite character? The twins are second. I love the relationship between Hunny and Mori, and outside of his compassion, Tamaki is probably my least favorite of the boys, but I still love them all. I like Haruhi, but she needs to loosen up some. Also, she can't see how well-liked she is in the group, which is kinda sad.

Not bad. The only problem I have with this manga (also with the manhwa Bride of the Water God) are the drawings of the characters. If I didn't follow the anime series years back, I'd be in a tight pickle now, trying to tell one character from another.

This volume is a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, it has some hilarious episodes and I laughed a lot. On the other hand, it contains some of the most problematic elements of the entire series. First off, there's the infamous scene where Kyoya fake-threatens to rape Haruhi to prove a point. It is such an unnecessary scene and is gross for obvious reasons. Aside from that scene, the episode is decent, but I never like it much because of how horrid that one scene is.
This volume also introduces the Zuka club. That episode is really funny, but it also has some explicitly homophobic content and I'm not sure how much we're supposed to disagree with the homophobia. I want to think that the episodes ends with an accepting message, but I'm honestly not sure. Especially since this episode also introduces a canonically bisexual character in a positive way. There is some problematic language used towards him, but since this was published in the early 2000s I'll give the author a pass for that.
I loved the rest of the volume, but those two scenes make it my least favorite in the series. I'm still rating it 5 stars since this is an older book and I'm giving it a generous interpretation.

I mean, Tamaki literally said that he doesn't believe lesbians really exist. However, the episode ends with the club seemingly accepting the fact that people can be gay, and that there's nothing wrong with it. So...progress I guess? And Haruhi's dad is bisexual, and no one has a problem with that either. So, because I love this series so much, I'm just going to assume that the club became a lot more open minded after meeting the Zuka club.

I think Host Club is at its most enjoyable when it hits that nice balance between zany situations and a coherent story line. This volume was giggly fun, with some calmer moments mixed in. I also liked all the small glimpses of back-story that are starting to pop up for each of the characters.

One day, Haruhi, a scholarship student at exclusive Ouran High School, breaks an $80,000 vase that belongs to the "Host Club," a mysterious campus group consisting of six super-rich (and gorgeous) guys. To pay back the damages, she is forced to work for the club, and it's there that she discovers just how wealthy the boys are and how different they are from everybody else.
Review : I loved this volume it was funny so the host club ends up going to the beach and then a situation happens where Haruhi gets hurt and Tamaki gets mad at her cause she could of been in danger so he vows not to talk to her until she sees it . But then she realizes the rest of the host club was worried about her also . Tamaki finds out Haruhi is afraid of thunderstorms so he helps her not be scared but the host club walks in on him and Haruhi with a blindfold on her it was to funny . The next part was the is where we meet girls from a all girls school zuco club who want Haruhi to join their club and leave the host club but Haruhi never planned on leaving and the host club members end up dressing as girls . Then we get to a Halloween part where Haruhi gets "cursed" cause she saw a witch but it turns out to be a trick the twins were playing on Haruhi so she could enjoy Halloween which was kinda nice . The host club members end up checking out Haruhi house and they have tea and cake and Haruhi is going to make lunch for them when tamaki falls on Haruhi and then her dad comes home .

Episode 10: The Host Club is visited by the Saint Roberia Women’s Institute’s “White Lily Club” A.K.A. The Zuka Club. The Host Club is defensive of Haruhi.
Episode 11: For Halloween, Haruhi is targeted by the school's curse. This is a cute insert that really just shows Haruhi interacting with the twins.
Episode 12: Tamaki has a nightmare that leads him, Kyoya, and the Host Club to go to Haruhi's house to verify how commoners live.
Extra Episode: “Daily Life in the Fujioka Family” is a short that shows more of the relationship between Haruhi and her dad.
Excessive Theatre: The author/artist has extra pages and filled them with fan requests.
Unsurprising, I liked this one too. This is my favorite issue I've read this far. The grow of all the characters as a unit and the insight into their person's was chef's kiss.

In this volume we once again continue with the general shenanigans of the host club, this time at the beach, during Halloween, and at Haruhi's house.
At this point, there isn't much left for me to comment on, except that all of the characters are getting developed more and more and thus less one-dimensional. Until the plot really gets going, it's hard to really comment on anything since the episodes function as standalones at this point rather than featuring much of a plot progression. It's more fun and laughs, and one thing I will point out is that more of the jokes worked for me in this volume for some reason than in the first two, though I'm not sure why. Maybe they were just more frequent and also more varied in that they didn't focus solely on Tamaki's misery at the hands of the Hitachiin twins?
Anyways, more fun ahead for readers.

While "Mom's" "solution" to Tamaki and Haruhi's brief feud was not perfect and pretty outdated, the overall volume was great! I liked the Halloween story, most of the beach story, and the progression of Tamaki's crush on Haruhi is interesting.
The gender bending in this series is pretty fascinating considering the year it came out. The use of the t-slur shows how outdated this is, but Haruhi's dad is a fascinating character period. A bisexual crossdressing that dresses in drag most of the time? Unheard of in the shoujo books I've read so far. I kinda feel that, in some ways, shoujo was a lot more experimental in the 90s-early 2000s with Sailor Moon, Ranma 1/2, and this series. Haruhi's dad explains a lot of why she just doesn't have any issues being in drag and having people assume she's a boy. I loved the female students from another school being the host club's "rivals", too. Honestly, if I read this when it came out, I probably would've had a crush on their leader the same way I did Haruka in Sailor Moon.

Me he divertido mucho leyendo esta tercera parte de Ouran, la escena donde los chicos visitan la casa de Haruhi siempre será una de las más icónicas.
Este tomo me gusto mucho porque comenzamos a conocer más a fondo a algunos personajes y se deja un poco de lado la comedia para presentarnos algunas escenas dramáticas que ayudaran al desarrollo de los personajes principalmente de Haruhi y Tamaki. Me encantó reencontrarme con el papá de Haruhi que es un personaje que había olvidado y que con la historia extra que trae el manga sobre la infancia de la protagonista se ha ganado mi corazón por completo.
Espero pronto conseguir los demás tomos para continuar esta divertida historia.

As I make my way through this manga slowly, but surely, I'm reminded of how great these characters are. I'm also reminded that Tamaki and Ranka (Haruhi's dad) have the same energy. Take that as you will. 😂
No, but seriously, mixed in amongst all the shenanigans, there are moments where you see the characters for who they really are and I think that's just beautiful. It really adds to the endearment of this series.
I definitely recommend this series if you want a nice pick-me-up!

The end was just too fun for this one, very excited to pick up vol. 4 to continue on from the cliff hanger.

2021 review:
This volume is a complete roller coaster and I really don't know what to rate it.
We start of with what I think is one of the best chapters in the early manga, followed by the chapter containing my two least favourite pages in the entire manga. The next chapter can be pretty much described as Revenge of the Terfs sprinkled with some casual lesphobia. Then a fairly average Halloween chapter, followed by a chapter I personally would have really loved if not for the occasional transphobic slur.
As if that wasn't enough, while I was looking at the author's notes section at the back I noticed that the author described an illustration of two of the characters as looking like a 'forbidden love between a brother and sister.' Truly bizarre.

It's when reading books like this that I wish that Goodreads did 1/2 stars; 5 stars feels too high, but 4 stars feels too low, which is what I rated the previous two volumes.
This is my favourite volume so far. While the previous two were pretty much all fun and laughs, this one did show a deeper, more emotional depth to the characters. I especially loved the beach chapters and the flashback to Haruhi and her father. Tamaki, Haruhi and Kyoya's characters were all explored incredibly well in this volume.
I especially loved how Haruhi and Tamaki's relationship was developed in the beach chapters, especially the way Tamaki feels for Haruhi, and the lengths he would go to for her.
The humor, as always, is incredibly fun and well done. There were several moments where I laughed to myself.
However, there are two specific areas of this volume that I have mixed feelings about:

I'm really immersed in the Host Club now, I've bought the next four volumes.
This volume had me laughing out loud and smiling stupidly just as the anime did. It's my favourite of the three I've read so far.
I was so nervous that I wouldn't like the transition from anime to manga. I was scared of preferring the anime because it wasn't the source material, and I had watched it first instead of the other way around. But as far as it seems, the two are pretty accurate and their are only minor differences between the two.
I'm so excited to read more about the Host Club. I love this selection of characters.

This one has some of my favourite stories, the host club are visiting the beach and Haruhi! I love all of the stories but these are definitely in my top 3! I honestly don't know if they will still be in there once I have read the entire series (I have watched the anime multiple times and read the first 10 volumes) but after reading them I can say though that I still adore them! I also really liked the short story that we got in the end, about Haruhi at age 7 and her father. It was very sweet. Another thing that I liked were the scenes requested by readers.

This installment introduced Haruhi's father and I would definitely say that I was surprised. Still, it was definitely interesting to have a unique bi character. They aren't all that frequent in American culture and this at least includes a bit of diversity and his relationship with his daughter is quite sweet. I continue to love Tamaki and his miguided "protection" of Haruhi. He's an idiot, but he has good intentions. The competition for Haruhi (At least betweem the twins and Tamaki) definitely keeps things interesting.
