'At last Salvis took his place at the right hand of the King. A mighty shout of joy and triumph arose as each servant began to praise the King in words older than time and sweeter than tomorrow's dawn, secret words of ancient days, words of power and great beauty, never before spoken and now carved into eternity.' The story of Karensa continues as we find out what happens on the island after Luke and Rosie have gone home. Petroc and Morwen are left to rebuild their farm, but the King helps them...'

Another short read and it was ok. The story starts where the first book left off, with Morwen and Petroc missing their friends from our world and wondering what they should now do. The King restores the family farm to them and with help from their neighbours, they work hard to get it back in order. But Bellum still haunts the forest and has plans to drag them back under his influence. Only by believing in Salvis and his Father can they succeed.

As I mentioned in my review of Book 1, I can't help but compare these with my beloved Narnia books - they too are fantasy stories of other worlds and have a distinctly Christian theme. Yet there is nothing subtle about Karensa - I suppose even the youngest of readers would get the message clearly. The trouble is, there are lots of 'thunderbolt' moments, which sort out the baddies and make everything right, something that decidedly does not happen in the real world. Maybe not the right message for children to be reading, but despite that a good enough read that I'm sure the target audience would enjoy more than I did.
