Kelly, a pretty 26 year old registered nurse in Tennessee and aspiring country music singer, was left at the altar by her fiancee.
Her life in ruins and devastated, was ready to consume her entire wedding cake in one sitting (chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and raspberry filling, chocolate marzipan frosting, with white magnolias), when her cousin, a Hollywood producer for a Bachelor-type show called: Count Down To Love, convinced her to step in to replace a contestant.
So what does a girl left at the altar to do?
Join a reality TV show!

After Kelly had been all dolled up by professionals, she'd been driven in a limo to a mansion.
A tuxedo-clad man opened the door and helped her out. Cameras everywhere.
At the head of the steps stood the host of the show. Next to him a dark-haired man in a suit. The man that all the female contestants came to meet.
Kelly was very nervous and had regretted her decision to join the show.

As Kelly walked toward the steps, she thought:
"...what was his name again? Damon? No, Demon. Yes...no! Who'd name their child Demon? I pressed my finger to my temples. Think, think, think....Dillon! Dillon Black! Hallelujah! My brain is still working. He sure is handsome. He reached out, took my hand and brought me to stand before him.
I was looking into the bluest eyes l'd ever seen.
He smiled at me. I was aware that l needed to speak, to introduce myself, but l couldn't remember my name. He introduced himself and leaned in to brush my cheek with his lips. He exuded confidence and control.
'I am Kelly Pickens'. I felt proud that l've managed to speak.
'It’s nice to meet you, Kelly '.
Then, with a subtle wink, he turned my hand loose, indicating with the other hand that the time of our meeting had ended.
Out of camera sight, a woman beckoned to me to continue on.
Then a voice yelled 'Cut'.
Something summoned me to turn my head back. Glancing over my shoulder, l saw Dillon was watching me, his eyes intent on capturing mine. And just for an instant l stood transfixed as the activity buzzing around us evaporated. I felt like we were the only two people in the world."

Kelly met the other contestants. All 25 of them. All beautiful, accomplished women.
The mansion was full of cameras. No privacy.
All the dates would be taking place in exotic locations around the country.
Those contestants who remained on the show after that night, would be split into two groups of six and then take part in group dates with Dillon, after which two girls would go home.
Next selected contestants would take part in single dates, a few group activities, and then two more contestants would be sent packing.
After that, more group dates and last a double date, after which Dillon would send one of the girls home.
For the last three contestants, there would be trips home to meet the family, followed by the final two contestants enjoying an overnight romantic getaway, where Dillon would make his ultimate choice.

Kelly started as a naive and gullible young woman, but she came a long way during the course of this book.
Dillon was a 32 year old NY millionaire businessman, who was nominated for The Bachelor by his employees, and he reluctantly went along with it.
He was stuck in the role he'd committed to.
This is The Bachelor so Kelly had to watch him date and kiss the other women. He had to for the show, and make it look convincing.
He seemed to return Kelly's feelings, but did he really like her, or he was just acting for the show?

There were complications, competitiveness, jealousies and cattiness among the contestants while competing for one handsome, charming guy who was dating all of them.
There is a black moment in the last third of the book that disrupts the relationship and creates tension and angst.
Kelly ultimately finds herself being one of the three finalists, but don't think that the ending is predictable. It's not.
There's a lot of sweet and funny moments, it's a cute and a fun story. The main characters are likeable.
I've never been a fan of reality TV shows, but l liked this book!

As the author I give this story five stars because I really do love the plot and all the characters. However, as the author, I gave it four stars because I know the text isn't perfect. With three novels under my belt, my goal as a writer continues to, one day, be able to give both the story and my writing five stars.

I realize that some readers were thrown by the fact that I left most of the secondary characters far in the background, that the particulars of the show were low-lighted, for lack of a better term, but the story wasn't about Kelly being on a reality show. If readers are looking for a back stage pass to a reality dating show they've come to the wrong place. This story is about life forcing Kelly to discover herself, to find what she really wants. The show, Count Down to Love, is only the backdrop to Kelly's journey with each experience revealing another clue that brings her closer to figuring out who she is. While some "clues" are more emotionally charged, others are subtle, but each equal in significance.

In a society where women have so many choices--so many conflicting role models--it can sometimes be confusing to navigate the labyrinth of social correctness, unrealistic media images and expectations to find the woman deep inside struggling to breathe, to spread her wings.

Enjoy!

I'M A HUGE FAN OF "THE BACHELOR"! And because "The Bachelor" is my favorite guilty pleasure of television, it is only natural that my guilty pleasure for reading would be reality TV romance books! Who knew?!

But before I get carried away on a "Bachelor" spiel (trust me, it happens!), I need to point out that even if you are not a fan of reality television, Count Down to Love is still a good, clean romance that will make you smile and maybe melt your heart a little.

One of the things I like the most about "The Bachelor" is the many exotic places it takes you to. That is also one of my favorite things about Count Down to Love. From the glitz of L.A. to the backwoods of Tennessee, half of the country was used as the backdrop for this book! But my absolute favorite setting of all was when Kelly visited Dillon in the Grand Tetons. Of course, I grew up under these majestic mountains so I have an enormous appreciation for the beauty of this area. I felt right at home in the description of Dillon's family ranch and gorgeous surroundings. I wish they had spent the whole book there! (And as a native Wyoming-ite, I have to say that I especially appreciated the whole country girl/country music theme!)

Besides "The Bachlor" tie-in, the best part of this book was the character growth of Kelly. I was slightly amazed at how naive she was when the book opened and she was being left at the altar. I couldn't believe that it took nearly half the book for her to realize how awful her fiance was! However, as I thought about it, I realized that this in itself was a great lesson. For us as women, we tend to want to "fix" our men. We also want to be loved. And this can be a dangerous combination! I think many women give men the benefit of the doubt probably more often than they deserve, just like Kelly did. Luckily for Kelly, she was able to reach a point where she realized that she could stand on her own, without the support of a man. She definitely comes a long way during the course of this book!

And then of course there was the developing relationship between Kelly and Dillon. When Dillon was first introduced I wasn't very impressed by him. However, as the story progresses, the fliratious episodes totally sucked me in and had me rooting for their romance to blossom and for Kelly to finally find her "happily ever after".

Count Down to Love is a sweet, slightly quirky, romance set in the craziness of reality television. It is a totally fun read with some thoughtful lessons thrown into the mix. Make sure you have plenty of time to read before picking this one up because you won't want to put it down!

Count Down to Love is the book version of the TV show The Bachelor. I happen to enjoy the show and ended up really enjoying the book. I liked our heroine Kelly. I loved that she had high morals, especially that she was saving herself for marriage!! Trevor is a loser and I wanted Kelly to wise-up a little faster. Dillon really grew on me. To be honest I didn't really have a great first impression, but I ended up liking him in the end. It's a really cute read, totally sucked me in and I wanted to keep reading to see what would happen next. There are a lot of sweet moments and I enjoyed being along for the ride. If you like the TV show then you will enjoy this book, and I'd you don't like the show you'll still like the book. :)

So, why the three star rating? Here's why (mild spoilers):

1) I wanted a little more explanation about all the traveling they were doing. For example, one night we're in Tennessee and the next morning we're in a totally different state. I know it's nit-picky, but I wanted a little more info on the logistics involved.

2) I wanted a bit more time between Dillon and Kelly. A little more of her noticing how he is with the other girls. A little more about all the dates. Also, I wanted to feel the "show" presence more. Sometimes I was asking myself "where are all the cameras and crew?" Maybe they were supposed to fade to black so we're just focused on Dillon and Kelly?

3) Lastly, the ending. So, in real life I probably wouldn't have minded Kelly's response, but in fiction I wanted more. I wanted her to say YES and have them ride off into the sunset, you know? I like my fictional character relationships to end strong with the whole HEA, not HEA-maybe. I felt like I was left still hoping things would work out, but not knowing if they would. I wanted the commitment.

What a fun summer read! Countdown to Love is one of the few books this year that I can definitely say I would pick up and read again. Fans of the movie Sweet Home Alabama and the T.V. series the Bachelor will eat this one up. Countdown to Love opens with Kelly Pickens, a sweet Southern singer on the rise abandoned at the alter. Left with no where to live and no idea where her fiance has gone, Kelly's not quite sure what to do with her life. In sweeps Kelly's cousin, the producer of a popular reality show who is also left in a lurch as she's down one female contestant. While Kelly certainly isn't looking for love herself, she has bills to pay from a wedding that never happened so she accepts a spot on the show.

There a million laugh out loud and toe curling romantic moments in Countdown to Love. Kelly must overcome her past to be able to trust again and find out who she really is, but Dillon is just the man to help her out! Readers will enjoy all the settings and vivid descriptions of American terrain the author weaves into her storyline. I'd call Countdown to Love a must have for fans of chick lit/ Christian romance. I can't wait to read more from this author! My fingers are crossed for a follow up novel.

Content: The main man smokes and drinks. There are a few mentions of cleavage and past sexual relationships. No violence or swearing. Overall a clean read recommended for adults.

This was a story about testing the range of love and loyalty to oneself and what better way to exhibit that than by starting off in a horrible situation.  Hence, Kelly was left at the altar!  Yikes, what now?  How about getting roped into being a contestant on a dating TV show?  A "Bachelor"-like program, no less.  Wow, that was way out there!  It didn't seem to be the logical next step but it ended up serving as an intriguing backdrop for Kelly's journey to staying true to herself and in the process setting herself up for true love.

Although much of the read was predictable, I was transfixed by Kelly's character.  I could empathize with her denial.  I could understand her being gullible.  And in the end I applaud her integrity.  Of course, the swoon worthy romance between her and the bachelor, Dillon, didn't hurt either.  Wow, those kissing scenes were pretty tantalizing!

This was a really pleasant read.  A clean romance that will leave you feeling optimistic about love by showcasing that honesty is attractive and where true beauty lies.  Well done, Ms. Ford.  Thank you for the delightful read.

So cute! Kelly Grace Pickens was jilted at the alter by her fiance and her cousin, a Hollywood producer, convinces her to join the women on Count Down to Love (a Bachelor-type show) when one woman backs out at the last minute. Kelly does and finds herself in situations that are more than she bargained for.

I liked the fact that this book was more about Kelly finding herself and figuring out what she wants for herself and not what others want for her than about the ins and outs of a reality show. Although, that was a fun side story. I also liked that Kelly was herself and not into all the games and manipulations that most of the other girls were into.

Dillon....yeah. He was great!!

A totally fun, clean romance!!

This book surprised me by how much I loved it. And not just because the writing was stellar. I thought, "Sweet romance? Okay, I'll try it." This was sweet by secular standards but a sizzler when it came to kissing and emotional turmoil. It made me think of the reality show THE AVERAGE JOE, but in reverse because the star was a guy and not a woman. (I don't watch much television and this is the only reality show I've ever seen.) But this book was better than the show. Plus, I got to go on a ton of adventures with Kelly to include going up in a hot air balloon and skydiving.

I was as confused as she was about my feelings for a very long time. Dillon was a great hero, and he was stuck in the role he'd committed to, but that also cost him a lot. What woman would enjoy watching the man they are falling in love with kissing other women? But he had to for the show, and make it look convincing. Of course, it didn't hurt that he loved kissing. :) Anyway, this story was told entirely from Kelly's perspective, but I loved that it was limited to her point of view because it intensified the tension. We only knew as much as she did and it wasn't much most of the time.

Some people might have gotten frustrated a bit with her dedication to Trevor, but he was a great manipulator and she started to see that, but at the time time who wants to admit they made a bad choice? I loved how the author tied a lot of her issues into her mother leaving the family when she was young. That kind of trauma to a ten year old definitely leaves its mark. And so often what happens to us in childhood drives our motivations as adults. I was also pleasantly surprised with the subtle faith element and that the character had a spiritual side. Most books unless they are blatantly Christian fiction don't include that aspect in the character's personality. I thought it made her more well-rounded.

When it all came down to the wire, I was near tears myself. I felt as betrayed as Kelly did, but there was a part of me that wanted to hope that what she'd experience was real and not all staged. Then again, she'd fooled herself for a long time about Trevor, right? Anyway, her personal growth in this book from a woman who is led by a man to a woman who knows what she wants and is willing to buck up and deal with some things was truly inspirational for me. I loved experiencing Kelly's life with her and was sorry to see it end. What a great book! Now I want to read the next two books the author has coming out in the future. Loved this one! It's making my favorites list for 2011 because I kept wanting to read it and do nothing else until I finished. Seriously, my butt fell asleep in the easy chair, but I kept on reading... Highly recommended!

I've always been a sucker for a sweet romance, but I've never been a big fan of supposed reality shows that claim to help a man or woman find 'love.' These shows seem anything but real to me. So I was a bit wary going in about how much I would like this, but Kelly sounded like an appealing character so I gave it a try, and I'm glad I did.

There are characters in this book who definitely made me roll my eyes and wonder how anyone could be happy living such empty, image-focused lives but there were other characters that I couldn't help but like. I really liked Kelly and admired her efforts to find herself amid the ruins of all her plans. Trevor, her fiance and a big jerk, who abandoned her at the alter does unfortunately make an appearance later in the book, in what turns out to be a very emotionally powerful scene. Dillon, the 'bachelor' up for 'grabs' is a fascinating character. One almost expects him to be a shallow, self-centered person, but he really isn't. He is of course gorgeous, but that is not what stood out for me while reading this book. Clearly he is looking for something beyond his business and money but he can't seem to find it. Maybe that is why he seems to see Kelly for who she really is. I think that is what I liked best about their romance (although there are some great kissing scenes as well), is that they helped each other find themselves and see that there is much more to life than fame and money.

There were some great secondary characters as well. Lexi, a fellow contestant, a bright red-headed gal from Texas, who seemed very comfortable in her own skin. Sissy, Kelly's cousin, a producer on the show, who encourages Kelly to look beyond Trevor and see the possibilities (although there is one scene in which I got very mad at her).

I appreciated that the story was clean, the most that goes on is some intense kissing. There is some mention of belief in and prayer to God, but it is not preachy in any way. I recommend this book to those who enjoy a good romance with some depth to it, where the relationship develops rather in spite of the so-called reality show. I'm not any more a fan of reality shows than I was before, but I am a fan of Dillon and Kelly.

Ohh I can't tell you enough how much I loved Count Down to Love by Julie N Ford. I have read and completely enjoyed other stories by Julie. She knows how to bring sizzle and fun to her stories that keep the pages turning and the laughter going. I really couldn't read it fast enough. I was totally caught up in the plot and characters and didn't want it to end. This was so much fun to lose myself in the events of the story line.

Count Down to Love is a contemporary romance that leaves you wishing for more. Julie N Ford did a brilliant job of plotting and weaving the build up of the climax through out Count Down to Love as you wonder what new surprise is waiting in the wings. She knows how to keep the reader turning pages in anticipation of what is coming.

I loved Kelly Grace's character as she is dumped at her wedding and hopefully waiting for her fiance' to arrive to save the day. She holds out for him and trusts that the unfortunate turn of events are all just a big misunderstanding.

But when it becomes achingly clear that he isn't coming for her, she wonders how she is going to move forward with her home repossessed by the bank, no job and a floundering singing career, her life is a mess. But her cousin Sissy has the perfect solution to help Kelly forget her woes.

As a producer of a reality dating TV show similar to the Bachelor called "Count Down to Love" she needs a step in replacement for a contestant fast, and Kelly is the perfect one to step in at a moments notice. After some quick talking, Sissy convinces Kelly it would be like a mini paid vacation that would give her time to get things in her life figured out and it would only be for a few days. Kelly takes her up on the offer, only she unexpectedly ends up staying a bit longer than anticipated.

Being on the show gives her time to heal her broken heart and hide away while she tries to figure out her next move. But the show brings in unexpected surprises for Kelly, the biggest of all is her unexpected reaction to the bachelor of the show, New York Millionaire Dillion Black. And the spark that starts between them or the adventures along the way.

I know you will love Count Down to Love as much as I did! Don't miss out!

Love, love, love, love…. Yummy, yummy love

Hum, have I mentioned the word love yet? Or yummy? Oh, right. I have.

Nothing makes me happier than a good romantic comedy with a happily ever after ending. Count Down to Love had everything I look for in a romance; engaging characters, humor, relatable situations, and some fantastic kissing scenes.

I’m not sure if I’m proud or ashamed to admit this, but I watch the Bachelor. It’s one of those shows that you can’t help but getting sucked into and sometimes you love it and sometimes you hate it, but you keep watching anyway. Count Down to Love is like the best of the Bachelor world. There is some drama but it isn’t overdone and it isn’t the focus of the book. Instead we get to know Kelly, who is on a journey of self discovery. I love how Kelly begins to realize she can make others happy without losing herself and giving up on her own dreams.

I was also so excited to see Hurricane in the book. I lived in Hurricane, UT when I was young- we moved from there to CA when I was eight. My mom always tells how I would get so mad at people when they pronounced Hurricane like the storm with a long A sound instead of Hurr-a-cun like it is supposed to be. It was a small connection moment between me and the book.

Count Down to Love was a fabulous book. I enjoyed every minute reading it and now that I’m thinking about it, maybe I’ll go back and read it again.

My thanks to Tristi for letting me be a part of this blog tour. I read a pre-pub copy of this book in ebook format. (which means I do not own a copy I can lend out....yet.)

Wow. The beginning of this book was just tragic. Getting left at the altar?! That would be awful! So right from the start I wanted to see things turn out for Kelly. I wanted her to have a happy ending.

I normally love the love interest in stories, but I wasn't so sure about this guy. I liked him then I hated him. I guess I just don't like the setup of The Bachelor TV series which this book was similar to. I don't like watching or reading about a guy who kisses and checks out a bunch of women at the same time. It's just weird and makes the guy a player. Even with that strike against Dillon I still found myself liking him at times. I mainly just wanted Kelly happy.

This book took me on a fun roller coaster ride of emotions. I really enjoyed traveling to the different places the contestants got to travel to. That was fun. If you love The Bachelor/The Bachelorette TV shows, I know many of you do, then you'll love this book. I couldn't put this book down! It was an entertaining read.

I think this will become my go-to book whenever my friends ask for a good romance book to read. I started this book this morning and finished it at about 9 PM. I couldn't pull myself away from it.

My favorite part were the scenes between Dillon and Kelly during the making of the "reality" show. They were a hoot to read. I loved their interaction and that they had so much in common.

Kelly however was having trust issues because at the beginning of the book she was left waiting at the alter for a groom who was a no show. I couldn't imagine the trust issues in falling in love with someone knowing he was dating and kissing other girls.

Anyway..... this is a clean and fun romance book. I give it my highest recommendation. I only give five starts to books that grab my attention so much that I literally do not care about a dirty house, kids running loose in the neighborhood, etc. I just need to read and find out what happens next.

Kelly Grace Pickens, an aspiring country singer, has just been abandoned at the alter. With no way to pay for her A-list wedding, she finds herself, not just alone, but homeless and broke.

When her best friend, a producer of a show like The Bachelor, asks her to be on the show, Kelly has nothing to lose.

Still pining after her groom who is missing-in-action, Kelly isn't looking for love. She just needs cash and an escape from the prying eyes of her mother.

While finding herself again, she just might find love, too.

This quick, easy read was just what I needed after reading some heavy books. It's light and fun. The characters are well-rounded, and the story is fresh and engaging. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Next time you're in the mood for a chick-flick, pick up this fun, clean romance. It's sure to please.

If you like the Bachelor, romance and true love, you'll enjoy COUNT DOWN TO LOVE by Julie Ford. Kelly is left at the altar. Her cousin tries to help get Kelly's mind off her troubles by making her appear on a Bachelor-like tv show. Instead, Kelly finds herself falling in love with the shows main character.

Kelly tries to stay clear of Dillon, the "bachelor" but it's hard when he seems to return the feelings. But does he really like her or is he just acting for the show??

While Dillon was the perfect main man, I liked him best at the end of the book when he was with his family. I wish we saw more of him in this light.

This was my first read by Julie Ford. Not her first novel, but a truly enjoyable read.

I don't watch reality shows like The Bachelor, etc. but reading this book you don't have to be a fan of those kinds of shows, even though this story takes place in one.

It is all kinds of funny, a great romantic comedy.

Just start with the name Kelly Grace Pickens, which plays off the real life celebrity Kellie Pickler, and go from there.

It has all the right elements of heart, romance, ridiculous outfits, country twang, and sass. Mix with strong character writing and descriptions and you have one awesome read ahead of you. Add in a bag of your fave chocolate and ignore the world for a while.

I started reading Count Down to Love the day I downloaded it and finished it in one evening. So much fun. I really enjoyed this book. Kelly Grace is an extremely likable character and she works through her hurt and trust issues--something that is especially difficult when she finds herself falling in love with a man that several other girls are chasing as well. I highly recommend to those who are looking for a fun, romantic comedy and to those who love The Bachelor. I will be reading this one again.

I had this book on my to read list, then at some point I removed it... somehow I got in a "bachelor TV show book" kick and this popped up. I enjoyed this book, that being said the hero did do things that I didn't understand that aren't fully explained. I might reread a few parts to make sure I didn't miss the explanations. this book is a clean romance.

I admit that my two-star rating would probably be three-stars had not this book been the last straw, the final realization to me: I've been reading too many books that aren't giving me anything important. They aren't giving me new insights about the world, changing my perspective on anything, giving me courage or strength to try new things, or teaching me new information. I even felt like while I was reading this one, it took me away from the things I needed to do. Instead of being with my family, like I should have been on the 4th of July, I simply read this book...just another romance novel.

I ended up looking at the author's website because I wanted to hear the song mentioned throughout this book, and I ended up finding an entry where the author talked about how she had decided to stop writing. She said that one (of the many) reasons was because readers didn't want real characters; they just wanted perfected ones, ones without flaws, unreal people that no one could ever be like. No one wanted the flawed characters she wanted to write.

But I want those characters, and I think it is mainly because of the genre(s?) she chose to write in. Romance books don't often allow for very different characters...not that they couldn't have those types of characters, but yes, the fans of those kind of novels don't want the darker side of life. I wish I could have read a novel with those kinds of characters...but ultimately, I feel sad that she decided to stop writing. Because even if I didn't like this novel, so many people did. And I don't think writers should ever stop writing. There is so much that they can add to the world despite the lack of acclaim the world might give them.

About the actual book and not just my experience with it: There was way too much kissing/physicality. (Still clean, though.) Which was annoying. And I don't really remember all that much because it's been a while...so I'll just leave it at that. Just another romance, but with too much kissing.

Kelly is abandoned at the altar by her high school sweetheart. She also has loads of debt that she didn't know about, and still has to pay for the wedding that wasn't. Kelly feels as though her fiance will come around, he's just ashamed that what he was planning for her career fell through. While she's waiting for him to contact her, though, she lets herself get talked into going on a reality show that her cousin is a producer on.
Kelly has been promised that she will just be on the initial show, and then let go, but the bachelor, Dillon, keeps her around. And Kelly, for some reason she can't fathom, probably because she is still waiting for the fiance, keeps saying yes to staying.
As the weeks go by, Kelly starts to realize that she wasn't really happy with the fiance, and even though she doesn't believe that anything can happen with Dillon, especially since he is still interested in some of the other contestants, she sees that there is still a life that she could make.

This was cute, and the writing was all right. I really liked Dillon, even though we only get Kelly's POV of him. Kelly took me quite a bit of time to warm up to. She was just such an ostrich about herself and her fiance, and it got really tiresome. I did like the fact that she took time after the show to really get to know who she was outside of her relationship to her family and her fiance before she made any big emotional decisions.
