Rate this book
It all started when 17-year-old Athena Dizon unwittingly plays a trick on resident heartthrob and bad boy, Kenji de los Reyes. All of a sudden, she finds herself pretending—unwillingly at that—to be his girlfriend to make his ex jealous.

Now, not only does she have to deal with dirty looks from the girls in school who want Kenji for themselves, but her supposed boyfriend is getting on her nerves. He's hotheaded, never seems to agree with her on anything—and everything about him screams gangster.

Has Athena gotten herself into more trouble than she can handle? Or has she actually found herself a boy she can call hers—gangster be damned?

At first, I was hesitant in reading it since it was in Filipino(tagalog). Yes, I admit it. Even though I’m a Filipino, I hate reading tagalog/filipino stories since I feel like it can make me go crazy because of those difficult words to understand. But I was wrong. This novel type story was easy to read and to be understood. Once I started from the prologue then chapter one, that’s it! Chapter one captured my attention and kept me going on in reading the story.

The story comprises of 50 chapters. And was written by Bianca Bernardo or better known as SGwannabe.

In my opinion, the story is really really good! To be short, it’s about a girl who acted as a “fake girlfriend” to a boy so that the boy would get his ex-girlfriend back. And eventually, the girl and boy fell in love to each other. You may think that it’s a simple and the usual story but it’s not! It was full of tension with some really amusing twists in the story and every page makes me just keeps on reading every word and every sentence. And then whenever I stop because I need to sleep already, my mind just keeps like imagining and seems that it wants me to continue reading the story. Okay, might sound weird. But that’s how I feel whenever I stop reading it. The story brought the old high school self in me once again. The old self where all I want to do is talk to my classmates and have those kilig moments.

Some lines from the story:

“Can I like you from afar?” - Athena

“Kahit na ipagtabuyan mo ko, kahit na mag sawa ka sakin, kahit na iwanan mo ko, ikaw at ikaw parin ang mamahalin ko” - Kenji

“Simula ngayon, dalawa tayong lalaban. Kung pagod ka na, ako ang lalaban para sayo. Wag kang matatakot. Hindi kita iiwan. Kahit anong mangyari, nasa tabi mo lang ako.” - Kenji

“I’ll wait for you. Hihintayin kita hanggang sa magsawa ako kakahintay sayo. Hanggang sa mapagod ako. Hanggang sa mawalan ako ng lakas.. kakahintay sayo.”- Athena

Better read the story yourself so that you can understand me! As an early warning, it would make you feel those butterflies in your stomach, make you laugh and cry all at the same time!

TOO MUCH LOVE WILL KILL YOU.

Chapter 1-30 = for me tipikal love story.. punong puno ng kilig.
Chapter 30-40 = Nakakainis biglang nagswitch yung story.
Chapter 40-50 = KAKAIBA! yung lang ang masasabi ko.
Epilogue = 'Yung last part ang nakapagpainis sa akin. Nakakapanghinayang.

Paulit-ulit kong naiisip yun. Pause-replay. Pause-replay. Pause-replay...

A lot of my friends recommended this so I thought that I may give this story a chance. But I hate to say that it can't really be considered as a real story. Honestly, it was like reading a 13 year-old's rant. It must have been an easy read but it really was not. There was too much CAPITALIZATION. Too cliche. Some stories I've read before were cliche but at least they were written properly. They were tolerable. But this.. I barely got through chapter 15 and this story has 50 chapters if I'm not mistaken. The characters had the potential to be good but they were really poorly described and written. Plus, it was really irritating to see various emoticons. And by emoticons, I do not mean the simple emoticons. (e.g. ":)" ":(" ":D") In almost every page, there were different smileys/symbols that were too childish and unfitting. (e.g. "^___^V" ) It really annoys me that there were too many languages used. Some sentence were in Tagalog then the next was in English then later some Korean expression will be inserted. There were words that really bothered me. I think it was the word "hindi". Instead of using the correct spelling, she used "hinde" and it's so annoying to read. There were too many imperfections of this story but I won't mention them all. Most importantly, I felt like this "book" doesn't have a plot. Okay, it has one but it was too confusing and indirect. I really resisted the urge to just leave the story unfinished. I really wanted to stop reading. But I wanted to see what everyone was talking about. I thought that with every chapter that I finish, the story would at least progress and slowly develop to reach the climax and main conflict but there were too much "filler chapters". A lot of chapter was unnecessary. This story shouln't have been published into a book. A book is at least clear, polished, and clean. It was as if every chapter in this story was rushed. As if the author just thought of random scene to put in a chapter. To say that I am disappointed is an understatement. I really expected this story to be "good" but this story is really far from it. I don't mean to offend anyone in this review. I don't want to come off as someone who is excellent in writing. I am far from it. I just want to share my own observations of this story.

(some re-editing has been done)

I was a bit hesitant to read this book, but a good friend of mine recommended this, so I gave it a shot.

After reading for almost four hours straight (five actually- if you count the hour I fell asleep in the midst of reading), I closed the book and placed it in my bag- eager to return it to my friend the next day.

First of all, he's not even what you call a "gangster". She dated a delinquent/troublemaker highschool boy who's only famous for his good looks-- if I'm not mistaken.

The story depicts a typical highschool love story with predictable plot, one-dimensional characters and cliched sugar coated dialogs. With pages less than 150, it was quite difficult for me to pinpoint any distinction of this from any other teen lit romance books that I've read (some regrettably). As far as I can tell, this is just one of those stories you can read on a Precious Heart Romance best-selling pocketbook series, but in English language.

PLOT:
It has a resemblance and a mixture of two Korean films titled "100 days with Mr. Arrogant" and "He was Cool".

The story was bland, unoriginal and basically just watching a movie in a fast-forward mode. Everything moves fast with little emotions. Perhaps the writing was entitled or in a hurry to meet only a limit of 150 pages. There were times when I scratched my head literally not in confusion, but in disappointment.

First off, the prologue threw me off. It almost sounded like Twilight but instead of a vampire, it's a gangster.

"I ONCE FELL IN LOVE with a gangster. Everything between us happened so fast, and our relationship took me completely by surprise."

If ever I happened to read that kind of prologue, I would return it in the shelf without hesitation or second glance. I mean seriously, let's think more of a unique introduction. Haven't we always came across those kind of lines in other romance teen books, in movies, dramas or even in songs?

Most importantly, the book clearly isn't familiar with Show, don't Tell. This is very vital and crucial technique especially in terms of writing fiction that obviously the book has failed to provide us. But then again, what can we expect from such a few-paged book?

If you wanna know more about Show Don't tell..

Probably my hatest parts:
page 127

The part where Kenji and Abigail were talking. And Kenji was all like "...Yeah sure you can die anytime."

And Abigail says "Forget it Kenji... You won't see me again. Ever."

Kenji walked away cursing, leaving her. That was probably an awful way to end a relationship with someone especially your ex who is dying. I know Abigail is the least favorite here, but Kenji's still arrogant personality threw me off a bit here. I thought he changed. Still he's an undeveloped character.

and page 50

After they went to Kenji's house with soaked clothes from the rain...

From Athena's POV:
I rushed to his side. Kenji was all wrapped in a blanket and shaking violently."

I was quite shocked here. How do you shake violently? Is it with eyes going white? Anyways, when I read the part "violently" I already imagined him in a convulsion state. How do you show "violently" at that part? And to think it was just a high fever... but that was fast. Usually it would take about half a day for a person to have a fever after getting soaked in wet clothes and cold rain. You don't happened to have a fever in a snap of a finger.

*sighs*

CHARACTERS:

The characters were not interesting. You have this bad boy falls in love with the new girl in school and blah, blah, blah. You get the picture. It's mostly a copy-pasted characters from Kdramas such as "Boys over Flowers" and some American chick flicks.

Athena Dizon- A flat character. Aside from not really letting us know her perspective in life, it lacked realism specifically when it comes to her emotions. Most are just rants. Sure, there were phrases such as "I cried... I blinked back my tears", but emotions aren't only based on actions. They are also revealed internally- on her thoughts, opinions, realizations and feelings. That's why there was no connection between Athena and I, because her thoughts were limited. It was hard reading her which shouldn't be (if she's Bella Swan, that is lol) because First person are the most intimate with readers since both parties know what the character is feeling throughout the story. Also, Athena (which should be, again) is not very observant to the things around her and how her life goes. Also, she has illness, but how could I feel sympathy at her when the author doesn't clearly know how to feel what it's like to be dying. I mean, I'm not saying I have a cancer and I'm dying or that you should really experience something to write about it, no... but "chest pain" has already beaten to death already in the book. I was like all, "Okay, she's sick. Whatever." The descriptions were basic and insufficient. Can't the book SHOW more of how it's like to be dying? I'd probably switch reading to "A walk to remember."

Kenjie de los Reyes- A Gary Sue character. Perfect in a way he's popular, handsome, good athlete --- Goo Jun Pyo, is that you? He has flaws okay, but not something important, not important in bringing up the story. He doesn't have weakness as well (at page 30, where in he got in a brawl with a guy and afterwards, he had no any scratch or bruise at all... how is that even impossible?). It still bothers me why he didn't explain throughout the story the reason why he and Abigail broke up in the first place. And the reason why he took a job as a waiter. O_o His dialog came off as unnatural because it wasn't casual as it could be (when he's shown as a bad boy), kind of childish to say the least. His POV and his tone/voice were similar to Athena's except that the pronouns changed, and it's manlier. I don't know but it seems that his type of character are overused by other writers as well on Wattpad. Why people love bad boys, huh?

As for the other characters...

I couldn't care less about them, especially when it comes to Lucas and Abigail-- the stereotypes. Lucas portrays the good guy- gentleman and loyal who was in a relationship with Abigail-- the mean ex girlfriend of Kenji (who's still quite possessive of him). They were undeveloped and were just cut-out cutboards with small roles with no depth. They didn't help develop the story at all. I'm especially disappointed with Sara, Athena's bestfriend, she doesn't act like one. For example, you don't tell your friend to be in a fake relationship with someone just to get a revenge, because you're probably sure she will get hurt at the end. But as for her, she supported the idea. Voila!

...

The ending was quite unexpected, sounds like Romeo and Juliet. The same scenario just as on their production play where the two major cast was played... but of course, by them. The ending was probably targeted to audiences who are fond of tragic love ending. But, I didn't buy it.

*sighs*

I gave this book two stars since (the good side is) this would help indeed expand more contemporary Filipino fiction. It would also help encourage younger generation to appreciate our local writers. ^^ But then again, quality-wise of this book, needs more improvement and proof-reading. ^^

I don't want to be rude since this is actually my first review in this site. So if ever I am (which I think I am), pardon me. Everything's solely based on my views and opinions.

If you like the book or not... and If you agree or not on this review, it just all depends on you. The reader. :)

When all's been said and done, this book is a Wattpad sensation and it should remain just as it is.

P.S To that friend of mine, I'm sorry. It's just not my cup of tea. <3

P.P.S I posted first my SDTG review under the name "Munchy Sushi" but had to close the account. You can actually see it under "Newest", but guys, don't bother looking at it. So I created this new account (Sea Sprinkle), it's still the same review but had to edit some bits here and there for more clarification. :)

Cliche. Mainstream. Korean.

My friends liked it. I don't know but this isn't my thing.
I stopped reading sometime in Chapter 15...I'm not sure. Basta more than 10 but less than 20.
I don't know about the others but its like that for me.
Gusto ko lang muna sabihin na kaya ko 'to nasasabi kasi the stories I've read, published and not published, are MUCH better than this one.
Organize, descriptive and original.

The characters are too mainstream.

Kung hindi exprienced sa pagbabasa ng published books yung makakabasa nito, malaki talaga yung chance na magustuhan nila 'to at sabihing "this is the best story ever. omg!" but for those who have read the wattpad stories of XxSkater2Girl16xX, and witcheverwriter o yung nakabasa na ng mga best selling books, international man yan o local, tulad ko, di masyadong maaapreciate 'to.

I've read the ending, though. (Yeah I skipped from Chap 15 to the end) This year ko lang binasa yung ending. So yeah binasa ko. Ang masasabi ko lang...Okay given, sweet, kasi nga sinunod ni Kenji yung gusto ni Athena, this story proved that love can make you do stupid things, magiging selfless ka. Naalala ko nga dito yung kantang "too much love can kill you" PERO kahit ganun, ang selfish pa din ni Athena. (Buti sinabi sa story na alam nyang selfish sya) Since may twist naman pala sa huli, I give it a two. :)

Bland. Unoriginal. Mainstream. Not Creative Enough. Bad Dialogue.

most of my friends liked it but it just made me sad. really sad. it made me realize that our generation is developing bad taste in literature. we eat up basically anything that is unrealistic and badly-written so as long as there is a hot guy and a girl playing cat and mouse.

typical koreanovela-ish.
sounds like 100 days with mr. arrogant, don't you think?

the prologue was unoriginal. sounded like "I kissed a zombie and i liked it" and "Twilight".
but even the ending? plagiarized from romeo and juliet. ugh. nooooo

the guy was not even a gangster for godsake -.-
and don't mention the emoticons or i might.....asdfghkl

What a freaking waste of money. Pardon my harsh words but I'm cutting back on book expenses and I'm a little picky with the books I buy these days. One hundred seventy-five pesos for a novella is a bit pricey but I support Filipino writers so that's okay. It's just that I want a good book to read not something I'll regret buying. I'm okay with trying new authors but this time, I should have bought another Summit book.

The synopsis of She's Dating the Gangster is catchy. A refined bad boy had always been my weakness so I put it up in my wish list. I've also been hearing a lot of praise for this book given that it has a bunch of followers when it was still being published as fan fiction on the internet. I said it won't hurt if I give it a try. However, it did hurt in the end not because I got touched with the way it ended but because it was not worth it.

I know I'm having such a violent reaction over this. It's just that I put so much hope in this book and since Summit Book published it, I was expecting it's pretty good. The writing isn't bad. Bianca has the potential of being a well-rounded author. I just don't like the way how the story went. There are things that bothered me and the ending was a deal breaker. I've read Summit Books before, they always end in a positive way. That's what Chick Lit is all about, right? I'm not looking for a happily ever after, but at least something that would empower women (as what Chick Lit had always been) not make you depress or fuming mad at the end.

The character's age and the setting do not fit the storyline. There are things that are impossible to happen at that age. It would have worked if the setting is in college; it is more realistic than high school. Since I know this is originally a fan fiction, I'd let go of the similarities of most scenes from Korean dramas I've seen but that isn't enough reason for me not to look for something different and new with this book. Thinking about it, I don't know if I've read something I haven't read before. Probably one of the reasons why it didn't work is because I've read numerous New Adult novels I got immune with overly dramatic situations. I'm not gonna make any more excuses; the story didn't reach my heart. I was more annoyed than sad.

I said I'm okay with bad boys but being an asshole is another thing. Kenji went from irritating to amusing, then charming and loving, and ended up as stupid, insensitive jerk. He was turning out as a lovable character with seventy percent of the novel, I don't get why he has to make a 360 degrees turn in the last couple of chapters. Athena was fierce at the beginning. I love her spunk but she turned out differently as the story goes. That's what I don't get in this novel. Why do the characters have to go from good, to bad, then worse?

The only thing I find good in this novel is that it made me realize I need to review my Korean notes from a class I took last year. I'm now having a hard time reading Korean characters when it was so easy before. There are also some words I know differently from what was used in the novel. Maybe because they're using banmal or I only learned the basic formal/informal words and phrases.

I honestly wouldn't recommend this book to teens or those with a weak heart and in the verge of suicide. You might get ideas. No matter how great that love is, I would still go with what Ramon Bautista said, "There is more to life than love."

Okay sana eh, kaso napaka-immature ng writing style. Ang cliche din ng story line. Saka puro emoticons?

She's Dating The Gangster is the first Filipino novel I've ever read way back 2010 or 2011. I honestly think that Filipino novels are corny. Really. No offense. But then again, for some reasons, we don't have internet connection, and I am bored as hell. I decided to read the doc copy we had in our desktop. I find it really corny, I just have no choice. -.-"

I don't feel butterflies on my stomach, I don't cry, I just don't feel anything. Am I weird? Sorry for saying this but, I don't really like the ending. Killing yourself? Not my thing. I just don't get it. Well, I do. Still. Whatever. -.-" Oh by the way, I like the Filipino version better. Why? It is more complicated, there are more foundation for Athena and Kenjie's love. But the author is right, if she would keep it's original length, it will cost higher.

However, I never thought that reading SDTG will be my 1st step in reading more and more Filipino novels. Still now, I find Filipino novels, quite corny, cliche, whatever, but still, the hopeless romantic side of me, keeps wanting for more. So yeah, somehow, I am thankful for reading this.

I read this on Wattpad at the recommendation of my friend. I never knew there was a Goodreads account for this book. Reading it on Wattpad, I was actually a little annoyed because of the format of writing. Too many emoticons and punctuation marks. But the story was actually okay, if not a bit exaggerated.

And then there was news that the story was getting published so I went ahead and bought the published book to compare it to the original story. From the beginning there was already a big difference (I'm not gonna spoil this for you guys). And as the story progressed, I can't help but feel that everything went a little bit too fast. There were too many scenes edited out. And I did not feel much chemistry there unlike in the original manuscript. But they did a good job editing it, though. The book was English all throughout and... yeah. Edited very well.

I would recommend you reading it on Wattpad, though, where you can feel the Athena-Kenji love. You just have to be a little bit patient with the style of writing there.

*Update - This is released this march as a book and some parts of the story has been changed. I WANT TO BUY THAT BOOK.

Would you re-read it if ever? :)

_ _ _

I wont actually consider this a book, but hey nothing changes. I cried buckets because of this.

naging emotionally unstable ako for days. haha. hindi ako maka move on sa nabasa ko. I rarely read stuff like this but this one is an exception. I would recommend it to hopeless romantics like me. It is very moving. i dont know if we'll feel the same but for me, i fell in love with Kenji Delos Reyes and grieved for Athena Dizon.

(Athena to Lucas)
Ikaw ba.. ngayong alam mong may sakit ako, is it possible for you to continue.. loving me?

F*ck you, Athena. (Sayang ka, Lucas.)

Stupid story. Stupid plot. WTF ending.
Kenji is an ass. Lucas is chicken shit. Athena is an opportunista!

To further rant about this STUPID book will only give other readers curiosity to pick it up, and read. Please, don't.

Odiba? Yan ang besfren ko, umi-efsyonil. Tapos ito yong pangalawa. Normally, ang nire-recommend nyan e movies kasi mas may time manood kaysa magbasa.

Star Cinema pa, tapos sasabihin kong di maganda.

Bilang tao. Karespe-respeto ka naman kasi. Yown na.

Congratulations, SGWannaB! Keep on writing. :)

Since it's highly recommended by some girlfriends, I found myself really disappointed after finishing the book. I was not even halfway and I'm already asking a friend to just narrate the rest of the story to me. Although it's lengthy(there are a lot of unnecessary scenes), I mustered all my might to finish it in the hopes that the good parts were to come. But it never did. The story is so mundane. It's like a mishmash of the typical Koreanovelas I've seen. And the typos were so distracting. I'm still baffled why a lot of girls are giving accolades to this book while I'm booing it to death. I'm no sucker for romance. Sah-ree. BTW, it's written in Tagalog but the writer seems to be more fond of the Korean culture.

Well, I was hesitant to read this. First of all, I had read the original one, the real story posted in Wattpad and refused to continue since I already got bored. And I wasn't a fan of Tagalog/Filipino stories since most of them are clichéd, too mushy and too full of coincidence and drama to be true.

But then, I heard the news of She's Dating the Gangster by Bianca Bernardino is going to be published as a book and everyone, I mean everyone at my school (even two of my friends) is hyped up at the news and couldn't wait for its publication. So, a friend of mine, Lheii, asked me a favor by buying her a copy once it reached National Book Store. I agreed in exchange that I get to read it. I was very curious with all the popularity and praises this book received and since it was pure English, I asked myself, "Why not?" And so when I got the opportunity to buy a copy (which was yesterday), I asked Lheii if I could read it first before I give it to her. My friend is kind enough to agree and she didn't have any idea how happy I felt.

I started reading the book today and finished it in one sitting. The book isn't thick with only 170 pages and it is affordable for the cost of Php175.

The cover's made quite good. That must be Kenji, being all 'gangster' like smoking with the smoke coming from his cigarette serving as the background for the title. When I grabbed a copy, the first thing I noticed was not the cover, which was surprising since it was the first thing you'll notice in a book, it was the texture of the book and how it touched my own palm. I don't know how to describe it, but it's definitely smooth and I don't have ay idea what they put in there to make it like that. But nevertheless, I really love it!

At the back cover, above the barcode and SUMMIT BOOKS logo, it said "Content is not suitable for readers below 16 years old" and I must admit I'm guilty on that one. I'm not yet 16, but I will be soon and honestly, I didn't find anything too offensive for a 15 and below readers to read. Oh wait, there is. But I do think that 15 year old readers would be able to deal with it. Whatever the reason may be that they put 16+ rating, I do not know.

I enjoyed the whole time I was reading the book. The emotions were in a whirlwind of typhoon, too many and too mixed up. I said that as a compliment. Well, that's basically how I felt while reading- enjoyed. I also felt at some point, sympathy to Athena, anger at Kenji and a lot more. There were many deleted scenes from the original Wattpad story I had read last year since there was a scene where Lucas and Athena kissed during a school fair (that was basically the part when I stopped reading) and didn't find that scene in the book.

I'm glad that they removed a lot of unnecessary things from the original story to the book. Truth to be told, I found a lot of things irrelevant while I was reading the original story. But, when I had read the book, I'm happy with the result. It instantly earned three stars. One star was deducted for the other characters were barely mentioned and I wanted to know more about Sara, Jigs and Kirby's lives more. But I think it is quite reasonable for the story revolves around Athena, Kenji and Abigail. Also Lucas. But I honestly think that the author should also add a little spotlight to the other characters since there are some people who love them.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time reading this and this is a good start for Filipino authors to be recognized! This gives more opportunity for Filipino Wattpad writers to hope that they can get their stories published and be famous and pursue their writing career.

Four stars since I had a good time reading it and a lot of irrelevant scenes were removed for the book and I'm happy with the result. One star is deducted for I want to know more about the minor characters like what happened to them during the Batangas trip of Athena and Kenji or their wedding. I suggest that the author should've two people narrating so that the readers will know what happened to the supporting characters while the main protagonists are making good memories. Nevertheless, I'm still satisfied and will be looking forward for more Wattpad-stories-into-books! :)

I have no sympathy for characters that tolerate rough treatment or even a bit of misdemeanor from guys. A more understandable and expected reaction from the character would be to keep distance and enjoy the view, not allow herself to suffer the experience when she knows it's coming. I think guys who are habitually mean are ill-bred and lack the respect entitled to others. Having said that, I have no sympathy for Athena who allows herself to be bullied by her pretend boyfriend Kenji, the school "gangster". It shows that she has low self-esteem. Not my type of heroine. Yeah the gangster is hot, but no one is ever hot enough to earn the right to be mean.

The story is about young love, and delves into the gangster's rebellious reaction after the break-up with his girlfriend who happen to have the same name as our main character. There's a double love triangle just among the two Athenas, Kenji, and Lucas, the boyfriend of Athena the 1st. Lucas also shows sign of being attracted to Athena the 2nd. It's a bit of an effort to swallow the whole story line, really, and the emotion it elicited from me is mainly exasperation, and incredulity when the main characters pulled a Romeo & Juliet ending. Overall, the story doesn't seem to have something virtuous to offer. I will give 2 stars for writing effort and for the last two chapters that managed to give me something to like about. Congratulations to the writer who is now an author. Keep on writing, and I hope your next work will be more commendable

When I was impulsively shopping to kill time one random saturday evening, I stumbled upon a shelf that featured this book, violet and teal cover (featuring a guy that awfully looks like Jung Yonghwa) stark against the pastel Summit books. "The online fanfiction that swept the Pinoy K-Generation," I read aloud to my sister. Now, as a Kpop fan myself, I read fanfiction, but mostly the ones found in Livejournal or Tumblr. However, I have heard of a certain work of fiction with the same title from my friends who have read the original one, so this might be good. To be sure, I flipped to the ad blurb and read it as well. It sounded nice, kinda fanfic-y in a sense, so I bought it along with another novel with high hopes that I will be reading a nice, Taglish novel. Fast forward to earlier today, when parts of Luzon experienced a power shortage. With my gadgets still alive but barely breathing (hehe) beside me, I decided to give this book a shot. Sadly, however, my hopes crashed, both for the power to come back early and for this book. (on a side note, the power's back!)

There was a lack of proper transition throughout the novel, and the events moved a little too fast for my liking. One moment they hate each other, the next moment they're in love with each other, the next moment they hate each other again, then they love each other again, then Athena dies. Well, that was fast. In Tagalog, dinaig pa PBB Teens! Furthermore, it was like reading a super summarized typical telenovela script. Love-hate relationship, secret love, ex girlfriend who wants to get back together (and abandon super perfect current boyfriend!!!), sudden sickness, reunion of the original pairing, promises of eternal love, sweet last bonding/moment on Earth, die peacefully in sleep after an exchange of heart-wrenching kilig words, and video messages of the dead character for the (in this case) widower, with an optional hint of suicide by the widower in the end. That was a confusing relay of what happened in SDtG. I like clichéd novels, fanfiction, movies, etc, but this had waaaaaay too much cliché it kind of bored me. Overall, it's a hundred and forty-four pages of cliché. Not really my cup of tea.

Like what I mentioned earlier, I expected it will be great since I heard a lot of good feedback about the original fanfiction, but perhaps the editing and the summarizing didn't do the original work much justice. Perhaps one day I'll find the time to read the original work of Ms. Bernardino and enjoy the unabridged version, but for now my disappointment lingers.

I'm being fair here. So, eto na nga.

So, here we go.

Too much CAPITALIZATION.
Too exaggerated punctuation.
Emoticons like these, ^_^ ~_~ o.o o.O :)) ^^v at marami pang iba.
Excessive use of foreign language, especially Korean.
A minimum of 2 characters that are switching povs will be my cup of tea.

Pinanood ko pa talaga ang 'A Millionaire's First Love' dahil kaparehas daw ito no'n. Masasabi kong, mas natuwa ako sa AMFL dahil 'yon, talagang super tindi ng emosyon. Ay, ewan. Don't take it seriously. I love, SDTG.

But I won't consider this one a book. Because a book is polished, no emoticons, no random expressions to set a mood.

**EDITED**
I was inspired by this writer. A filipina writer.

At first, I doubt that the story will go well, just like other people from other countries... Honestly speaking..
But it went better than expected.

The scene takes you to a normal high school girl who despised (not really) a guy.
Then slowly, the guy dared(?) the girl to be his girlfriend.

At first, I really thought it would be cliche and all but it wasn't.

As I continue reading this book, my feelings and thoughts went along with it.

At the first 50 pages, I read slowly and time felt terribly slow since it was a bit boring for me to read.
Until I reached a point where I felt like every chapter was short even though it contains eight or more pages.

This book sent the blues out of my eyes, especially when the book finished, or rather, before it finished. The epilogue... I just can't forget the epilogue.

This shows True Love. True Love.... Until death do us part.

Though there were some flaws but the plot? Very interesting .

Flaws:
There were many typos
--->

Suggestion: I suggest the author to make an english version of this book. Since it could attract more people from outside the country who couldn't understand our language.
It would be a hit. I tell you :)

i gave this book 1 star.. only.. y? huh! shouldn't have given it any star at all.. I just don't like the story plot.. I read this book only because of the news that it'll be adapted into a movie featuring Kathniel.. ok, the characters may be good, but the whole story plot is like.. MEH..

Sorry for the negative reviews, but it is what it is. I just wished that this book was proofed read before they published it.. So many flaws.. the way the author think was too shallow.. I hate the fact that it has these annoying "pati" words, which i think not necessary at all and so irritating.. Plus the combination of Korean chuchu, my God!! I don't think the influence of Kpop gave this story any justice.. it's just pure crap!

Anyway.. i didn't finish it.. i'll just wait for the movie to come.. maybe Cathy Garcia-Molina can give this movie a better story plot..

tsk

I read this about 4 or 5 years ago, but as most memorable stories go, I could still remember the whole plot. A friend emailed it to me, and I found out it was one of those Internet novels that are circulating around. It actually originated in a CandyMag forum, but I only found that out now. As in, about five minutes before I typed this. I didn't even know it was up in Goodreads!

At first, this seemed like a novelization of a traditional Korean drama (yes, I watch a lot of those - it's a guilty pleasure and one of the reasons why I don't get any work done): funny, light, charming. Later on, though, conflicts ensue and everything spirals to a really beautiful but sad ending.

I was at first cautious of reading this because it was in Taglish, but when I started reading I took great pains to convert the whole document into a format that an iPod Nano could read so I could read it at night when I'm supposed to be asleep (it's practically my first ebook - plus, no need for flashlights!). What I first thought to be a bad thing turned out to be an asset; somehow, reading a novel in pretty much the way you normally speak makes everything so much easier. Though some of the plot points may now be considered cliche, I still have fond memories of reading this from a perspective of a blissfully ignorant girl fresh out of grade school. Oh, memories =))

PS This is also where I learned (and still remember!) most of my basic Korean! I was so thrilled when I recognized the phrases while watching Kdramas and reading their scripts (I can't understand them, but when I do, it's mostly because of this story).

I read the original manuscript from Wattpad first before buying the book. The story is really amazing! But to be honest, the manuscript is better than the book. Though the original has a lot of unnecessary conversations or details, it adds to the emotional impact of the story. As for the book, some of the scenes were cut/summarized. The original has a total of 300+ pages while the book is more or less 200. So obvious naman kung gano kadami yung nasummarize and naalis. The unnecessary details were deleted so it looks clean.(I mean hindi amateur-ish tignan). But then, nabawasan yung emotional impact nung story. Like when nagbreak si Athena and Kenji, sobrang sad and devastated dapat yung maffeel nung reader. As in sabi lang, nagbreak sila then after a few months nakipag-usap ulit si Kenji kay Athena. Don't get me wrong. I don't hate the book. I just love the original manuscript way better than the edited book. The story is still the same. Very good book. :)

This book is simply Amazing... And it really caught my Attention.. I'm a kind of reader kasi that read books that would catch my attention and Imagination.. The moment I saw that this book is #1 at power books Philippine Publication I automatically look for it pero naubos so I run to National Bookstore and automatically saw this.. At first I can say that is some kind of Mala f4 ang dating pero at the epilouge mala endless love ang ending.. well it only proves that not only foreign authors can catch peoples imagination and topnotch the shelves of bookstores because.. Now a days Filipino Authors takes the spotlight.. We don't need to write vampire stories to topnotch bookstores and get readers.. Sometimes putting reality into fiction makes a big marked.. 4 times ko ng nababasa to.. It's really amazing...

Title palang pang Korean movie na.. haha. At hindi nga ako nagkamali. Plot palang mala-Korean movie na talaga. Though I greatly compared them, the story was awesome. Just plain awesome.

The story started just how the movie ‘He was cool’ started. Different in a way that Athena and Kenji was IM-ing and the one’s on the movie wrote on a blog or something about school. The story became very ordinary for me coz this was how Korean movies are made. In short, paulit ulit nalang. I can even relate scenes coz I also experienced some >.< Weird ano? I don’t wanna experience ha? Just a thought lang. hahaha.

Them ‘dating’ was just for two purposes; one, as a consequence and two, a revenge. Yan lang muna dapat. Ayoko man-spoil eh. :))

There was this scene where Kenji kissed Athena in a club para lang mapagselos si Abi. I saw this on the movie ‘Temptation of the Wolves’. It’s also a great movie. ^^ We know that a Filipina wrote this story diba? But isn’t she great? She even included Korean words and a little of Hangul with translation to add thrill. Lol. I think the book should be published.

One thing I noticed din is yung age nila. I didn’t mind the first page but after reading some chapters it was said that they’re only in High school? Gad! Sa Pinas makakaarte ba kayo ng ganun?! Kaya ayun.. yun ang ayoko. Masyado talagang fictional though ¾ of the story happens in real life talaga..

Love is sacrifice. Ayan, one sentence to sum up the story. I didn’t wrote this review in English kasi naman taglish din yung pagakakasulat nun. Basahin nyo nalang din guys. You’ll laugh (a little), blush, get angry and be very nostalgic. Promise! Lalo na kung college stud ka na. You’ll say High school love’s still the best. /ehem lol hahahaha… Basta if you wanna have a PDF copy. Just message me or anything. I’ll post my contact details. Kasi nga diba wala syang published book kaya yun. Enjoy~

This is the 1st Filipino novel I've read for about 4 years. A friend of mine recommend this to me saying that his soon-to-be-girlfriend (or atleast, I hope so), love this one and hope that he'll read it. But, who are they kidding, he's a guy for godsake! And sadly, he's not included on those rare population where men reads.

*WARNING: This contains a combination of praises and MORE rants, comments, and other annoying criticism that YOU would wonder why the hell I gave it a rating of 4 ;))

Anyway, about the novel, it was clearly an amateur one (no offense dude). There are times that I get confuse cause the story itself, shall we say, UNSTABLE. Pero, kahit ganun, the story itself, it's concept, drives me to continue reading it. I mean, even in my dreams, Kenji kept on appearing, and it's either I'm a pervert, or HE'S HAUNTING ME ..

So, at the beginning, it was, hmmm... OK.
Yeah, it was like the typical F4 story. Guy bullies girl, girl let him. Yeah I know, pathetic. But who can blame her, FANGIRLS could be extremely dangerous, most often than not.

But then, it becomes sweet. I love their petnames. SEXYLOVE. LOVEBABE. (forever alone.. HUWAAAHHH). Though, I hate the part where eventhough the guy had abandoned her and then finally decided that he wants to get back, she just SIMPLY LET HIM DICTATE HER! He keeps on dragging her anywhere he wants when in fact, he has no right to do so. And this idiot girl, who has no freewill of her own, just let him.

But inspite of all that, one the last quarter of the story, I BAWLED! That's the best thing about Filipino stories. It easily penetrates my heart.

So yeah, if YOU still have the guts to read this story, despite all my negative comments above, I SALUTE YOU!

P.S. Hope I could find my own SEXYLOVE, or LUCAS (TEHEEE!)

Too cliche. Too fast. Too dry.
Im going to try really hard to keep from focusing on the negative side too much.

The story itself, bad-guy-falls-for-the-normal-chick-turns-good is really cliche. The characters, especially Kenjie, could have had a chance, if it was only written properly. His POV didnt offer much explanation for his behavior towards Athena. Plus the gangster title. That part annoyed me a bit. He was just a hot, rich, spoiled guy who got into brawls once in a while. He's not the type of guy who gets a fan club.

The Athena Dizon-Tizon thing was very unrealistic. I mean, seriously? What are the chances? Plus the part at the end where BOTH girls have life threatening diseases and they both need him? And I still dont get how Athena fell inlove with Kenjie. He was mostly rude, mean and indifferent towards her. Even when they were finally together, I was very irritated at the part where he left her and went back again, where she welcomed him back with no proper explanation. I was NOT satisfied with the character development.

The organization of thoughts and the events was amateur and dirty. The execution of the dialogue was too fast and too dry, plus the emoticons were super distracting. The transition from the three dialects used, Filipino, English & Korean was rough and confusing. It wasn't organized at all. In the first part, the author was trying to hard to make the readers kilig while in the last parts, she was trying too hard to make the reader cry. I appreciate her efforts, but she used to many mainstream lines and overused circumstances. And the ending. That really bugged me. I feel like their relationship didnt get to that point yet, the point where the guy literally cannot live without her, and he really wants to be with her so much, he goes off and kills himself.

Im not being biased here.

A monumental waste of time.

Walang sense most of the time, parang diary lang ng isang dalagitang walang utak - sorry medyo harsh.

=D at syempre SAYA. Sobrang saya ko nung nasa last page nako!

WALA. WALANG SENSE ANG LIBRONG TO. WALA KANG MATUTUTUNAN.
