Explains the origins of hieroglyphs and what they mean, tells how this ancient form of writing was decoded, and describes the training and importance of scribes.
Ran across this gem in the public library. What a cool read! About 100 pages of great information on hieroglyphs and ancient Egyptian culture. I'm definitely inspired to do some more research and learn more. Thanks to the authors Norma and Barbara for gathering this information and presenting it in such a clear manner!
Our oldest daughter picked this book out at the library because she wanted to learn more about hieroglyphs. It's a very good introduction to ancient Egyptian writing and it's the first book I've found with phoenetic and numerical translations. So we wrote our girls names in hieroglyphs and we translated the number groupings. It was fun and educational. Not too long or wordy and yet it provides a lot of good information and pictures to look at. It also describes the Rosetta Stone and the gentleman who used it to decode the meanings of each symbol. We really enjoyed this book.
Great way to learn about hieroglyphs and their meanings. I liked that we were able to apply what we learned by finding hieroglyphs in photos of real ancient Egyptian artifacts.
