Cyborg Seduction #6

Redeeming Zorus

Rate this book
Charlie’s brother has put her in the no-win situation of having to rescue a cyborg from Earth Government. It’s dangerous, she’ll become an outlaw on Earth, but it’s the only way to save her brother’s life. The imprisoned cyborg is rude, conceited and probably the biggest jerk she’s ever had the misfortune to meet. His only redeeming qualities are his handsome face and sexy, muscular body. Just wow! Still, she can’t wait to be rid of him.
All cyborgs hate humans, but Zorus is consumed by it. Chained, enslaved and facing death on Earth once again, he vows revenge. To his utter astonishment, a human female comes to his rescue. She’s rude, mouthy and bossy. And very brave. She baffles him almost as much as she arouses him. Zorus cannot deny that he’s fascinated by her. They are about to lock wills and ignite a firestorm of desire that defies every rule he lives by.

I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.

No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.

I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.

Zorus, You Evil Bigot, M*ther F@cking, Sadistic Bastard!!! I have HATED You for SOOO LONG. Now I have to read your Love Story!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

description

Zorus is a member of the Ruling Council that governs cyborgs. His orders are law and must be obeyed. But Zorus is a sick bastard. He hates humans with a passion, and has been an evil terror to all cyborg males that have attempted to take a human female as a mate. He has gone as far as ordering them to be killed under the pretense that they were Earth Government spies searching for cyborgs.

description

Zorus' last attempt to harm a human female went terribly wrong when his crew refused to obey his orders. Leaving him to share an escape pod with another cyborg when their spaceship exploded. Zorus's escape pod was lost and he ended up turned over to Earth Government. And he was awaiting "live" autopsy when Charlie broke in to save him.

Zorus was such a suspicious jerk and argued with Charlie so much, I just knew he wouldn't escape. But she gave it back to Zorus, pound for pound. I fell in love with Charlie and her hover craft.

Charlie

Guess what? Nobody else was irrational or irresponsible enough to take on the government to save your big, gray ass. You should drop to your knees before me and show some gratitude.”

He growled again and took a threatening step closer before he halted. “I am no longer forced to perform sexual acts upon your females.”

Oh, I may have failed to mention that Zorus had been used as a pleasure slave for females and males before escaping Earth Government years ago. He is still tormented by their abuse and holds hate towards all humans in his heart.

tortured soul

But Charlie isn't like most humans. She is strong, stubborn, and determined to save him, even willing to risk her own life to do it. She amazes Zorus, and she argues with him, orders him around, and refuses to take any of his shit!!!

Leave it Laurann Dohner to create a character I can't stand, only to make me fall head over heals in love with him by the end!!! Redeeming Zorus was a wonderful love story. It was about healing, forgiving and learning to let go of hate.

You are more than what Earth created you to be. You have stopped being cold inside, released the hatred you lived by, and have discovered the ability to love.” He paused. “You are truly alive now.”

fangirling

“You do have something I want.”

“What’s that?”

“I want you, Charlie. Your sense of humor, your body, your touch, and the way you make me feel.”

hearts

4.5 Redeeming Stars!!!!!

You know how every series has at least one guy who is such a jerk that you can't wait for someone to kill him? Each book he does something even more vile than the last, so you think that eventually he will die. He has to! Well, don't we all love it instead if he gets his own book and we all suddenly have to like him and let go of our enduring rage? No, me neither. I'm pretty angry that Zorus the asshole turns into Mr. Nice Cyborg as soon as he meets the right girl. I'm pissed off that I ended up liking him!!

How am I supposed to keep warm at night without my rage to heat my blood?

Okay, I admit that maybe I'm not the most forgiving person, but it takes quite a bit to piss me off in the first place, so if I'm angry at someone - they deserve it! I'm still angry at that doctor who delivered me and slapped my ass when I was born. Who the hell hits a baby? Jerk... I'll get my revenge some day...

Zorus is the jerky cyborg leader who hates humans. He has tried to kill or harm every human woman that the other cyborg dudes have mated with just to be a dick. But, he is kidnapped and taken back to Earth to be imprisoned and is awaiting his autopsy. Hmm, not good when they are talking autopsy while you are still alive...

Charlie, a girl with a boy's name (what's up with that? It's crazy!) gets the job of rescuing Zorus. Lucky lucky her. He makes sure to let his lovely personality shine until she's ready to hand him back over to the mad scientists with knives. Not really, but I wouldn't blame her. Of course they fall in love. It takes days for his hatred of humans to be overcome in order for him to love her. And, boobs. He really likes boobs, apparently, and the cyborg women aren't packing like we are. Oh, boobs. They never let us down, right ladies?

Since the dawn of time...

So, now that he loves a human woman, things need to change. Suddenly, he doesn't want his son to torture the human that is in his apartment. Suddenly, he wonders if it is the best idea to have a law that all humans on their planet are slaves. Suddenly, he gets all offended when he loses his job because he must be insane to be with a human. Funny how boobs change everything, huh? They are pretty powerful weapons, ladies. Use them wisely.

I have got to get me one of those bras... and then I'll find that doctor... I'll find him real good...

Zorus & Charlie

Zorus is the guy that you love to hate. The most important member of the Ruling Council, he usually gives orders and Cyborgs follow his rules.

Zorus absolutely despise humans. They had tortured him, raped him, belittled him. The best day of his existence, was the day the Cyborgs manage to escape killing a few humans in the process.

Unfortunately now Zorus is back in their hands and he is suffering. So when a fierce, brave little female rescues him, he thinks that she will betray him and does not trust her. He will behave like a jerk, but I suppose this will be easy for him because he is already a rude jerk. We have met him in the previous books and he really loved make people suffer.

Charlie just wants to help her stupid brother. She agrees to rescue this Cyborg without knowing what to expect. She does not know whether Cyborgs are cleverer than androids and whether they can think of themselves.
And Zorus does not help. She almost has to drag him in order to save him (Funny moments there!). But she will succeed.

When the two of them meet Zorus’ soldiers, Charlie will find herself owned by him. Zorus does not intent to let her go. They will eventually fall in love, but Garden's Cyborgs and especially Zorus’ son will not be very welcome.

Love heals everything. Even a jerk like Zorus.
Good addition to the series!

Redeeming Zorus is book six in the Cyborg Seduction series by Laurann Dohner.

Some of the books in this series can be read as stand-alone or out of order. I actually stated the series with this book, Redeeming Zorus. It was my first taste and it read well enough on its own with a few references to past events. I actually deiced to start here; because the blurb really appealed to me.

This novel is enemies to lover relationship. Zorus hates humans with a passion and it’s ironic that he falls for one.

The opening is gripping and I had a great time with our dangerous alpha cyborg male and our strong human woman. These two snip at each other as they rush to escape human pursuers. Then their relationship changes to passion as they overcome their differences and become a couple. Things aren’t easy and they had to fight for their relationship and learn to believe and trust in each other.

Redeeming Zorus was truly a wonderful sexy read.

Zestful of rights undermining supremacy

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: 😠😚😁😍
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Solo Narration

The heroine: Charlie - she grew up in a poor neighborhood and lifted herself out, she is now working as a computer programmer for the government. Her older brother is always getting into trouble, and she always has to get him out of it. This time it is a gambling debt he owes and to get him out of it she has to break out a high value cyborg that is being held by the government.

The Hero: Zorus - he has featured in many of the previous books because he is on the cyborg council and is known for being a jerk. He hates all humans, and most cyborgs hate humans because they were created by humans, used by humans and nearly put to death by humans. However, Zorus hates them more than anyone, he hates and distrusts all humans even those that have helped the cyborgs, even human females that married cyborgs. He is the council member responsible for the law that says that humans on their home world are property and are basically slaves. Though in the last book, Zorus was sold to humans and is now back on Earth, being tortured by humans, so he has every reason to keep hating them.

The story: Charlie breaks Zorus out of the facility where she works and where he is being held. He doesn’t disguise his hatred of humans despite the fact that she is the only one around that is helping him escape. They bicker and fight the whole time, amid the danger and suspense of sneaking out. Charlie plans on leaving with her brother to Saturn after getting away and getting paid in order to start a new life.

Charlie’s brother double crosses her at the last moment and takes all the money for himself and sells her to her married ex-boyfriend who plans to keep her as a mistress on the moon. She will be a captive and not allowed to leave. Luckily, Zorus turns around and pays much more money for her than the wealthy ex-boyfriend. I liked how Zorus started to see a different side of humans through Charlie and when he found himself getting attracted to her, it was a great vindication after how he acted in the last few books.

This book was told in dual points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Mindy Kennedy. I find that I am liking her narration more and more as the series goes on. She has a great voice and has been getting better at having different voice inflections or accents for different characters. Also, I have been binging this series one after another and have not yet gotten sick of her voice.

Finally, I get to meet the biggest asshole of them all and my oh my, he's redeemed indeed. Surprised? Me too...

Zorus was a councilman ruling in a planet cyborg, the Garden.

He's the evil one because he hated all things human up to the point that he ordered humans be killed because they're dangerous. His hatred towards human was legendary amongst his people. So, either karma is a bigger asshole or a blessing in disguise for him because when Zorus was captured by humans, the one who risked her own life was a human female, named Charlie.

Zorus is an example of someone who they said is "the one who's the hardest to love is the one who needs it the most". He's broken, damaged and a product of abuse since he was created by human. He has known no love and never be the receiving end of it.

Charlie was able to see behind the façade. Her sincerity to help Zorus escape didn't lost on him and soon Zorus started to learn trusting Charlie, then realized he had certain emotions for this particular woman. Charlie's wonderful! She's strong without being feisty, she refused to take shits from Zorus, intelligent and witty.
Love is a crazy thing, isn't it? It hits when you least expect it, grabs you by the shorthairs, and tugs you in whatever direction it decides to go."
Zorus chuckled. "Your words amuse me."

No easy way for this two. Zorus fellow cyborgs didn't believe him taking a human as his property was a good intention of him considering his history with human. Then at the Garden, Zorus' son believed Zorus was under Charlie's influence.

Overall, I'm pleased with how this story turned out to be. It has so much more depth than the previous ones. A love story filled with passion, redemption, sacrifice, and forgiveness. I totally devoured it, making it my favourite of the series.

Second reading just as fun.

Another good one by Laurann Dohner. Zorus was a total ass in all the other Cyborg books. He really needed to be redeemed. He hates humans especially human women. He was the one that made it a law that humans are property on the cyborg world. He tried to have the human mates of the other cyborg guys killed or at least have their marriages denied. Plus there was one time in an earlier book where he tried to get another cyborg to stay behind on an exploding space ship so that he, Zorus, could escape and live. LD explained or justified all of the asshatery except that last bit which was conveniently ignored. Authors shouldn't make characters so bad in earlier books that they can't justify somehow their actions later when they have their own book.

Zorus did change his mind about human women pretty quickly but he did have some pretty solid evidence that Charlie was a totally good worthwhile person even if she is human. Charlie was a great character. Spunky and fun. There was a pretty solid plot that mostly revolved around their relationship as she rescues him and he takes her back to the Cyborg planet. There was fallout from his extreme and sudden change from being a human hater/killer to being in love with a human woman. The other cyborgs had difficulty believing in his transformation.

There were not as many sex scenes in this one. They were there and they were nicely done but I didn't feel like they overwhelmed the plot as happened in some of the earlier books.

Can't wait for the next one. Krell maybe?

Okay.so I am a total fan girl now of Laurann Dohner's books.Reading one is like eating a bag of chips, the more you eat,the more you become addicted to the flavor of the salt and you just want to keep on eating and eating. That said, this book just sucked me in.The writing is tighter in this one and I was totally immersed in reding about Zorus and Charlie, the h.When I read the background story on Zorus, you understand now his complete and abject hatred for humans. If I went through what he suffered, trust me I would feel the same. Was he redeemed?....YES!!!!!the love between the two of them was beautiful.Zorus became a total ALPHA who loved and protected his mate. This is one of my favorites along with Valiant.

I’m not sure how many times have I said this before I already lost count XD but I LOVE every single book of Laurann Dohner and this is no exception…she never disappoints me at all.

If you are looking for action in every single meaning of the word ( ;D) then you REALLY need to read one if not ALL of her books ASAP.

Now lets’ begin!!!

For all the fans and readers of Laurann Dohner that have been reading her CYBORG SEDUCTION SERIES you DO lnow who Zorus is…right?

ZORUS
Zorus one of the biggest pricks that ever put a step on the Cyborgs planet and besides one of the most powerful cyborgs on the planet as well, given that he is part of the Council and…one the biggest oppositors to anything related to the human race..that includes any cyborg having any relationship with a human…because? He considers us …inferior, given that he was treated that way for us when he was created and slaved on Earth.

CHARLIE
She’s a woman that has fight her all life to gain a life where she could be somebody for what she really is and deserves and not just someone marked by her birth status, which was very low and almost treated as nothing…she’s a woman that won’t make a step back and will always find the right way to follow her believings even if that path puts her at the reach of the wrong people as her older brother.

so HOW DID THESE 2 CHARACTERS MET?
Well Zorus was taken back to Earth by the human government and forced to be study subject in the last book remember? and as he’s a COUNCIL member he HAS to be rescued…soooooo the cyborgs arrange a rescue to get him out of it. Guess who the rescuer is?!…yep! Charlie is.

So now put in a room,

An alpha chauvinist male cyborg
+
A non take nonsenses sassy adventurous woman

What do you get? A story full of twists, LOL moments an murdering desires to any stupid enough chauvinist guy that ever dare to think that women can’t take care of ourselves hahaha

“They should have sent a male to break me out. Women on this
planet obviously are still as irrational and irresponsible as ever.”

Anger rose instantly inside Charlie. She’d risked her neck
to get him out of the cell, saved his life in the process, and he had the nerve
to insult her. “Do you see a guy standing before you? No, you don’t. Guess
what? Nobody else was irrational or irresponsible enough to take on the
government to save your big, gray ass. You should drop to your knees before me
and show some gratitude.”

But of course….that can be pass a little if you ever manage to have a body like Zorus *grinning*

Now, Zorus being the prick he has been all his life he’ll keep doubting Charlie, not only for the simple fact that she is a woman but also because she is a human…from time to time ever again he’ll keep doubting her…and from time to to time again…Charlie will leave him speechless.

Until they both get to a point where challenging and bothering the hell out of each other will no longer satisfy their…curiosity

So everything while fugitives of human race and in the run for their lives in order to get home …they find a new experiment to distract each other that soon enough would bloom into something else

But of course not everything is gonna be easy for them both…but I won’t be telling you what will happen either *evil grinning*

OMG I was so swoon by this story !!!<3<3<3 come on!!! if you are a follower of this series YOU HAVE TO READ TIL THE VERY END!!!!!!! I was sheding a tear and a huge joker smile at the end… I’m dying to tell you about it…but no spoiler here XD

So summing up as I already said….I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE IT!

I was needing my Laurann Dohner monthly dose XD
Full rev to come.
But loooooooove it! Can't believe how that assholw actually fell so hard for her, after all the bad things he has done to the humans and all the cyborgs in love of us!!!
I'm so in love of the ending , though!!
A family unit with humans!!!!, YAYYYYYYYYY!

Fun sci-fi romantic escape with some erotic sex.

It put me in a good mood. Nothing made me angry at the author. The characters and plot were simple. I enjoyed watching the heroic heroine breaking the cyborg out of prison and leading his escape. He grumbled at following orders from a female.

Sex scenes were good. There was one beating with an attempted rape. There were some references to cyborgs being tortured and raped. Those were referred to, no details.

So far there are seven books in the Cyborg Seduction series. These are not full length novels. They are about 2/3 the length. You don’t need to read them in order, but I’d recommend it. A couple of characters were mentioned in this book and I thought “I can’t remember that guy’s story,” but it wasn’t necessary, more of a curiosity. Other reviewers mentioned that Zorus was really bad in prior books, and I had no memory of that since it was two years since I read the prior books. But this book was still good without remembering. My favorites were books 4, 5, and 6: Touching Ice, Stealing Coal, and Redeeming Zorus. I had problems with the first one, Burning Up Flint, gave that 2 ½ stars.

DATA:
Narrative mode: 3rd person. Kindle count length: 3,443, 120 to 202 pages. Swearing language: strong. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: about 7. Setting: future on earth and planet Garden. Copyright: 2011. Genre: erotic science fiction romance.

5 Redeeming Zorus Stars

What a fitting title to this book, you don’t really know what to expect because in Ice’s book Zorus is a flaming..butt head.. to put it nicely.
But we find out why he is the way he is, now this doesn't excuse his earlier actions but it explains a whole lot. You know that saying you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but you really can if you teach them to love and kindness.

Charlie shows Zorus that not all humans are out to get him or his people. That may be just maybe some humans have the capacity to love and be trusted.

Charlie had a job, and it was to get Zorus to safety and that’s exactly what she did. No matter the harm she was putting herself through she did her job and she does it well. Even if she didn't like Zorus or his pompous attitude, she did the job she was paid to do. I loved that even though she did her job she didn't put up with any grief. Nope not in her job description!

I again really enjoyed Mindy’s narration of this book how she just makes every character their own.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

I really enjoyed this story. I never thought I would like Zorus but I really did! Plus I liked Charlie a lot.

In the past, Zorus was a earther hating jackass. Even in this book, he was a dick in the beginning, but certainly not cruel.

Charlie was smart and got screwed over by her brother a few too many times. Not to mention her ex! But luckily Zorus saved her!

Zorus' son? Yep - NO! I talk about that in the spoiler.

This was a good addition to the series. I think these books have gotten stronger over time. There was some drama, action and hot sex. Plus Zorus fell HARD which was fun to see. And he sees the stupidity of the laws he helped create that hurt human mates.

Best one so far this series! I didn't think Zorus could possibly become likable from the pervious books this series but wouldn't you know...it was a take-no-sh!t female human that bought out his good side! It was another fun, exciting, steamy cyborg story that had me once again loving this author!

4 “Do as I say, and I might save your big grumpy cyborg ass”- stars!

👏👏

Finally some ACTION! I really enjoy this series, (first introduction to genres does that to you) but one of the things I find it lacking at times is action. This one was perfectly balanced with action, drama, fighting AND 🔥’ness.

Zorus was just like I imagined him to be. Hating humans, big, angry and resentful. Yet, Charlie, a human woman gets past his armour. I didn’t imagine I would like him so much !
I loved it. Charlie was without a doubt the best female character written by Dohner ( that I have read so far).
She had spunk, character, loyalty and she was sassy as fuck. 👏

It was actually really fun to read. Zorus is being held captured by humans on earth and Charlie is tasked to free him. If not her brother dies.

Will I recommend: Yes. This was one of the better books in this series. Really entertaining!

MINOR SPOILERS THROUGHOUT:
I loved this book. I adored the romance and the whole story captivated me. I ended up reading this in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down! I loved Zorus and Charlie and reading about their story was the highlight of my week!

What I Didn’t Like- The only complaint I have about this book was Darius. He was an evil asshole and he deserved SO much worse than he got!

I must say, when I looked at the list for who the next book would be about, I had no idea who Krell was and I was debating skipping his story... until I read this book!!!! I NEED IT NOW. GIVE IT TO ME. I WANT HIS STORY SOOOOO BAD!!!! I NEED A SCARRED BIG CYBORG WITH A TORTURED PAST!!!

After the disaster that was Burning up Flint, I'd said I wouldn't be reading this series. I had a few people message me though, telling me I'd probably like this one, and so I gave it a chance.

Just as with all of her other books, there is far too much telling instead of showing (though, to be honest, not as badly as with some of her other books), the hero of course ties the heroine up for sex (it's gotten to the point that it's like seeing Stan Lee in a Marvel movie -- you know it's gonna be there if you just wait for it), and if I ever need to get really drunk, I'm going to create a drinking game where anytime the term "vaginal walls" or "vaginal muscles" appears in one of Ms. Dohner's books, I get to take a shot.

However, even with all of that, I really enjoyed this one. There was a lot more... chemistry between the characters, as well as just a general feeling that the heroine was willingly being seduced instead of it being a forced seduction scene (forced seduction can be hot, but not every. single. book.).

Now, as I said, I've never read any other book in the series, so while I definitely got the Zorus-is-a-demented-jerk vibe, I never witnessed all of his asshattery as it took place in previous novels. I'm sure that probably made it easier for me to accept him as a hero, since I was able to see him without being biased by past books.

I was very happy to see that there was far less forced nudity (so not my thing), though sensitive readers should be aware that there is a(n almost) rape scene.

Overall though, I enjoyed it. I may actually read Krell's book soon, though I'll of course have to check my queue before I get to read any more books that I've purchased myself.

4/5 Stars

**re-read, Laurann Dohner just keeps going, this is book six in the Cyborg series and I loved it. Zorus has been the anti-hero since he first showed up in this series and most who read about him hate him, I was no exception. Then I read Redeeming Zorus and it's official Laurann can write it all and do no wrong, I love Zorus. Zorus hates Humans and has made it known while trying to make every humans life on Garden as hard as possible.

While being held captive on earth Zorus is rescued by Charlie a girl who was forced to rescue him by her deceitful brother. After the crazy rescue Charlie executes Zorus is stunned when it's made clear that Charlie isn't like most humans and she keeps risking her life to save him instead of saving herself. When someone from Charlie's past try's to buy her Zorus decides that he will instead and that he will take her to Garden to live with him but others in Zorus's life have other ideas for Zorus and Charlie.

I loved Zorus theres nothing like a bad boy and Zorus was but When he met Charlie it all changed and he was going to make sure he was with Charlie no matter what. I blew through this book and was sad to be finished. I am loving the Cyborg series!

How messed up is it that this was my favorite book of the series?? In every other book the heroine is having to do the chasing, the wooing, the convincing and for the most part - the guys are all jerks up through 70% of the books.
This one didn't feel that way to me.

I liked it, but was this the same guy?? His change was so abrupt that a character-consistency nazi would be having fits.

But Zorus is a jerk through the first, then keeps recognizing similarities between his life and Charlie's. He also keeps noticing her honorable behavior.

So Zorus decides he likes her enough to buy her from the smugglers who are going to deliver her to her betraying, gold digging Ex who intends to have her be his sex slave.

Typical Dohner sex scenes....SMOKING HOT. Ladies they were inspiring. I might have to buy the paperback copy, highlight a couple of scenes and leave them laying around for my guy to read them for ideas.

HEA
Would recommend this one in a heartbeat.

Be forewarned this book in particular has a really creepy part that almost made me put down the book. When the heroine is at the apartment back on the cyborg planet and Zorus son beats the crap out of her and nearly rapes her and does it more than one time. I've noticed with Laurann Dohner that it seems most of the stories have a very near rape scene. I feel like she has over used that particular plot scene. I get that the world is a violent one but this happens in every book of the series. If it didn't end so well I don't think I would have marked it as a "like" at all.

4.5 Stars Well, I have to admit I did not think Zorus could be redeemed, however, I was wrong. I really liked this book and I think it just may be my favorite in the series. I loved how he was with Charlie and how protective.

A very enjoyable read and quite surprising.

Zorus was a tough cookie to like for the first 30% of the book. The little intro in Coal's book was a good call by Ms Dohner because we were already pre -disposed to not liking him. With that intro you can see he is in fact redeemable. Good read once again.

In all honesty I wasn't looking for a deep meaningful book, so I wasn't disappointed when I didn't get it. I am a huge fan of Laurann Dohner's New Species Series so I decided to give the Cyborg's a try too.

This is the first book I've read from this series although I wasn't lost even though I started in 6 books deep. I was hoping for the same kind of New Species traits in this guy and I kind of got it...but it wasn't the same. Maybe it's me, maybe I'm being picky. However this book just didn't quite make the mark.

I liked Charlie at the beginning of the book, and how she was take charge and wasn't putting up with shit. She was exactly what the description offered. I did feel like she lost that almost completely after she was drugged by her brother. True, she was semi-kidnapped to another world but she was just a little too trusting for me. When she was having her doubts I didn't find it quite believable and in the end she would always go back to the cyborg without a fight. It was like there were two different people, kickass Charlie and believe-the-best-in-everyone Charlie.

Something I did have a problem with in this book was the near rape scene. I have read a lot of books. Some of them had near rape scenes or people who had been sexually abused before. While I wouldn't say that reading about people being abused or almost abused doesn't bother me in books, I also wouldn't say that I would start balling my eyes out over something I know hadn't really taken place. The rape scene in this book however made me tense up and I actually felt like I might start crying. I'm not sure if it was because I was alone in my house by myself at night, or if there was something specific about this scene that really didn't sit right with me but I was really uncomfortable with the book after that scene.

It especially pissed me off that Zorus didn't do much about it. Yes, this is a fiction book. Yes, these people aren't real. However, the response of the main characters to the near rape was not even remotely justified. No one who walks in on someone they love just about to be raped by your family just lets the rapist walk away. No. One. There is no way in hell that anyone you truly loved would let that happen. Ever.
That really pissed me off.

What also pissed me off was the way Charlie didn't act much different around Zorus's son (rapist). I could understand if we were given the 'I don't want to be a victim' thing, which would be understandable. But I felt like the author was trying to get across that Charlie was being concerned about her rapist (Zorus's son) because Charlie didn't want to hurt Zorus's feelings. His feelings. Are you fucking kidding me?! Fuck Darius and fuck Zorus! What happened to he was going to protect you? My 11 year old brother could protect me better than this guy! It was a joke. Everything after that was just one gigantic fucking joke. If I were Charlie I would be saying 'fuck you all!' and going after Darius, then I would get the fuck off that planet. If someone tries to rape you, you don't offer to get ice for his face when he gets beaten up. You don't pretend you like him because he's related to the man you love. You kill that motherfucker, or you make him wish you had killed him.

Laurann Dohner I am a huge, huge fan or your New Species series. I don't normally rage on authors or books to this extent but I feel that you really fell short with this one. The way both main characters responded to the abuse just did not sit right with me. I usually hate the people who rant in the reviews about scenes in the book making them uncomfortable, I mean seriously! It's a book! Fiction, you know not real? But I guess the joke is on me because this one has seriously pissed me off. I'm glad the New Species books were a hell of a lot better than the one I just read.

Well, all that's left to say is everyone's a critic, right?

WELL Jill from the last book set up a rescue for Zorus...

Charlie finds herself forced into a rescue plot for him. She runs security/programming in the lab he is in. The scientist are so happy to have him back,, stunned he has not aged... they want to cut him up in pieces and study him.....

She help him escape only to find her own brother who was in on the deal has double crossed her.. after saving the life of Zorus 2 -3 times he buys her since she had been sold by her brother. 150k!! Zorus spends, they fight like cats and dogs. Zorus is the biggest asshole of the council and HATES HUMANS... and little old Charlie saves him, he just does not understand why and then she tries to save him again... he is shocked this human has tried to save me and lost her own freedom, so he buys her.. and experiments with her... and falls in love with her..

Well this comes as a great shock to everyone.. specially his son who accuses him of treason, and attacks Charlie while zorus is away one day.. trials and tribulations are many. But true love is a gift to someone who has never known it.. A WONDERFUL READ.

Dangerous alpha male cyborg, check! Sassy, strong human heroine, check! Adventure, passion and humor, triple check! Oh yes, I had such fun giving a new to me author and a new to me series a try. I pretty much jumped into the middle of a series because the blurb really appealed, but I was able to enjoy the book just fine with the understanding that there were a few references to past events in the series.

The opening scenes were gripping and I had a good time with the hero and heroine sniping at each other as they rushed through an escape that provided lots of excitement. The story shifts to a different type of excitement once they evade human pursuit to that of a passionate nature with the two overcoming their differences and becoming a couple. Holy hot tamales! Scorcher! Things were not easy and they had to fight for their relationship and learned to believe in each other.

All in all, I had a good time with this one and I will totally be looking out for more from the series and the author. Those who enjoy hot Sci-Fi Romance particularly with a cyborg hero should definitely give this series a go.

Damn! The female MC, Charlie has a mouth! I mean, don't-shit-me-just-do-as-I-say sorta words! It's funny, and refreshing. This is my first book in the series, but hope that my reading it as a standalone won't be a big problem.
Am on Chapter 1, that scene where the captive while being rescued by Charlie says "I don’t take orders. I give them.” and Charlie, that bad-ass girl replies, “Bitch about it later. Let’s get out of here first.” :p That's when I know it's gonna be a very enjoyable read, full of good banters. Read from other reviews that the male MC, Zorus, was kinda a bad guy in the previous books. But I am going into it blindly, so don't know what to expect. :D But who cares? It's turning out to be a really fun read. ^_^

UPDATE:
There was a disturbing part that happened at Zorus's home which really killed the story for me (those who have read it know which part I'm talking about), and the characters weren't really developed. I'm glad it ended sooner than I anticipated. The story had promise at the beginning, but nothing spectacularly good or excitingly new near the end. That's why am rating it 1.4 stars, instead of 2.

This is a surprising story. And I really enjoy it. This is the first of Dohner's Cyborg Seduction series that I've read, and I now plan to start from the beginning. It can be read as a stand-alone novel, though it hints at things accomplished in previous books.

As they escaped, I liked the continued distrust between Zorus and Charlie; it seemed (and seems) realistic to me. As does their journey to love. At first, I thought it too fast, but when I paused to consider it again, I decided that it seems perfectly timed.

I love the equality between Charlie and Zorus. It isn't physical or financial or social, necessarily, but both made incredible sacrifices without apology for the sake of their bond.

I think I'll definitely be re-reading this one.
