Enemy Embrace, Book Two

Desperate for freedom, royal concubine Bryce agrees to pose as a test subject for the infamous Toymaker. She'll participate in his sexual study, submit her body to whatever form of pleasure his creative mind imagines. With sensual smiles and carnal responses, she'll carefully earn his trust--then deliver him to her Master.

Slade is determined to save the life of his friend and mentor Matthias, the Toymaker. Matthias has created his most ambitious toy yet, a replicant into which he will transfer his being. Though amazingly lifelike, the replicant will be an emotionless husk unless they can stimulate his intuitive programming. And what is more stimulating than raw, uninhibited sex?

Passion ignites between Slade and Bryce from the moment their eyes meet. She's supposed to arouse emotions in the replicant, but Slade can't keep his hands off her. Her silky skin and evocative taste leave him desperate for more. They harbor secrets both dangerous and damning. Will passion or obligation win out in the end?

(This review was originally written for Nocturne Romance Reads)

Aubrey Ross's "Toymaker" was a truly original and highly erotic story that contained all the elements Sci-Fi, Paranormal Romance, and Erotic fans will enjoy. The passion, suspense, and overall storyline was unexpected, uninhibitied, and just down right erotic.

Readers truly experience the attraction and the growing connection between Slade and Bryce first-hand from the beginning of the story and throughout the book. Both Bryce and Slade have secrets and alternate plans that involve one another, but the interactions and relationship between them takes different turns that neither character was expecting or prepared for which makes the story all the more interesting and arresting.

Although this is the second book in the Enemy Embrace series, it can most certainly be read as a stand-alone. A must read for Sci-Fi, Paranormal Romance/Erotica fans alike!

"Toymaker" is a satisfying futuristic erotica that can be read as a stand alone in Ross' series "Enemy Embrace." The only connection between the two books is the location - the Pleasure Palace, an elite sex club on Hailey Prime.

Matthias is the Toymaker, but he most definitely is not one of Santa's Elves making wooden airplanes for the kiddies. Rather, he creates sex bots and organic enhancements, with his surgeon partner Slade. When the two become involved in an personality-transfer experiment to save Matthias' life, they meet Bryce, a mistreated concubine who's desperate to escape her condition. I won't recount more of the plot line here - suffice to say it's interesting, complicated, and with just enough major and minor players to keep things moving along nicely.

I couldn't get on with this book at all. I've quite enjoyed some of this authors other work, but this one I found rather too boring and long winded. I'm afraid I wasn't interested in any of the characters and therefore gave up before the end.
