Stormy Weather #1

Rain and Whiskey

Rate this book
Galen Frost is used to taking what he wants, and after years as a semi-pro football player, he wants to get away from it all, making himself a home in a small Florida town. Shane is a beach bum, good time bartender, living it up every night, never really looking at the same guy twice. Galen runs a bait shop, Shane works private parties, and the only thing they have in common is that they both like hot sex and a good time. When they meet at the bar one night, sparks fly, and the heat amazes them both, like the burn of good whiskey. They come together like rain on the ocean, whipping up a frenzy of weather, good and bad. Nothing is easy with these guys though, and they have to ride out the storm that breaks between them when Galen's old life rears its ugly head. Can Galen and Shane find shelter from the rain?

I’m a big B.A. Tortuga fan. She writes a lot of cowboy and country boy MC’s and I love them like no other. The MC’s in Rain and Whiskey fall into that category in a way and I was curious to get that MC in a different setting. That part of the story worked for me. Galen has a country boy background that translates well to the slower pace of small the town in Florida they live in. Shane is a good time cruiser who lives day to day, tending bar and being happy. The minute the see each other the eye fucking begins and once their dicks get together the full on fucking begins.

Which is great, good on you two, but unfortunately there isn’t much to the story beyond that. They pretty much boned non-stop for 260+ pages. I’m a huge fan of the boning, don’t get me wrong, but I did want more. I didn’t get any of these two that wasn’t fuck centric. And, since I am such a Tortuga fan, I know that’s a thing the author can deliver and I missed it.

There was the “misunderstanding” and quite frankly, Galen was a dick about it all. I didn’t feel like he gave the correct amount of groveling to put their relationship back in balance. I do know there are more books in the series though, so I gotta hope he makes that happen. Shane may be an extremely easy going guy, but I don’t want to see him be a pushover. I got the vibe that he was genuinely a nice person and I wanted more from him from Galen at that point.

Rain and Whiskey could have easily been significantly shorter and given me more fulfillment at the end of it. A little boning time turned into conversation instead would have been great and then ditching the phrases like “Oh, now, that was fine.” And “Oh, yeah. I want.” And “Oh, that was hot” And Oh, hot damn, he loved a challenge.” And, well, you get the idea. “Oh” was used 348 times in a 264 page book. That’s 1.3 Oh’s per page. That’s too many Oh’s. About 345 too many. It got distracting after too long for me.

So, while the execution of this one didn’t really work for me, it’s still a deliciously decadent escape and if you are down for a country boy fuckfest and some sweet tea, then by all means, do it, you won’t be disappointed.

I have read several books by BA Tortuga. In most of the books I have read by this author, the chemistry between the characters is smokin' hot, and the storyline usually flows quite easily. Just between us, this is not my favorite book written by this author. There was something about the two main characters that didn't mesh with me. I liked it, I just didn't love it.

Shane is a very likeable hero. More fun loving than serious, he works as a bartender and parties most nights. Shane has been on the prowl for a while and doesn't feel the need to settle down into a relationship. So, when he spots semi-pro football player Galen Frost across the bar he (they) immediately feel a connection to each other. They are opposites of one another, but opposites attract. Shane soon becomes enamored with Galen, and his one-night stands become a thing of the past.

Shane and Galen has good chemistry together. But, I really think the book was rushed in some ways, and things weren't resolved within their relationship as it needed to be. Galen has quite a temper on him, and I wasn't really comfortable with Shane's willingness to give into to Galen's needs and wants all the time-especially at the end of the book.

Don't get me wrong, there is definately romance in this book, along with some smokin' hot Man-Love, but although I enjoyed this one, it won't find a place on my keeper shelf.

‘Rain and Whiskey’ must be one of the hottest male/male romances ever. It starts with a bang – the main characters getting right down to business minutes after meeting and exchanging names – and it only gets hotter from there. Galen, a former semipro football player who now owns a bait shop in Florida, and Shane who is a bartender, have matching libidos – but there is more to life than sex, even for these two horndogs. As they manage their way through the storms life inevitably serves up, they get to know each other and begin to figure out how a longer term relationship might work. What a ride that turns out to be! It’s been many years since I read this novel the first time, and it left great memories, so I was glad to get an opportunity to do so again with this second edition. I enjoyed their romps and adventures just as much the second time around.

Really a 2.5 stars book.

It was mostly sex, dialog about sex, and a couple of pages of not sex. I read this for an M/M Bingo Challenge on which the category was Best Gay Fetish: Fisting . The fisting, which was on my mind all throughout the book, was implied Smiley . It never really took place in the story, I only assumed it happened, . I was kind of mad and disappointed that it didn't take place directly, which surprises me, but since it was the main reason I was reading the book in the first place, I think I'm entitled to vent.

I felt cheated! Smiley

Now that I got that out of the way... I liked Galen and Shane. The were funny and sexy as hell. Each had issues to get over, but I think they weren't explored fully. They could have been developed a bit further and their issues explored and dealt with in more depth. I really enjoyed the tender moments between them, but they were few and far between and the constant use of 'Love' just about spoiled it for me. The sex was good, great chemistry, detailed and sexy, but at times I was just waiting for them to get the sex over with it. It was too much! I think the book could have been much more since both were great characters, but the story fell flat. It really is a 2 star book, but hey! I enjoyed the chemistry, most of the sex, the characters and the tender moments.

I liked this book but didn’t feel like I connected with any of the characters. I didn’t know much about them. I liked them but wanted more. Don’t get me wrong love sex in books, I didn’t think there could ever be too much, I was wrong. There was too much sex and not enough of anything else in this book. I wanted a story, I wanted more of a connection, not just hot steamy sex. I will read the next book just to see if things go in deeper with these two though.
Characters: didn’t connect with them
Sex: oh yeah!
Religious: no
Would I recommend to others: yes
More than one book in the series: yes
Genre: M/M Romance
Would I read more by this author: yes

This is a story which is initially at least light on relationship, but heavy on the sexual exploits of two men who first meet in a bar. Shane is a barman who lives for a good time, and realises that Galen who may be a man who eclipses any other options. Galen is in a comfortable retirement from football, running a bait shop and now slightly obsessed with Shane.

An enjoyable read, slightly different from the usual B A Tortuga storyline, but still good.

Galen Frost, semipro football player, has lived life in the fast lane, but now, bad associates and poor judgement find him escaping to a small town in the Florida Keys where he buys a bait shop and a small house that he fixes up.

Galen is at a local bar, the Connection, where he meets bartender Shane Barton. Shane’s been working at the Connection for seven years: he’s fun, flirty and rescues Galen from being groped by Old Man Roberts. Galen invites Shane to come and find him when his shift is over—and they leave together, with one thing on their minds.

Shane gives Galen a surprise when he doesn’t run away the morning after. Galen likes that he can actually talk with Shane, though the fact is, they have nothing in common other than a strong physical attraction. Galen has some kinks that he’s into, but he doesn’t push and always asks Shane before trying anything. And Shane starts to learn some things about himself.

Galen has a loving momma by the name of Carol Lynn. She doesn’t hold back and speaks from her heart. She comes to visit and takes a liking to Shane. Shane doesn’t have a relationship with his family, he’s useless to them, but he goes on and lives the life that he loves. When fellow ex-football players from Galen’s past show up at the door, trouble starts to brew. One night out at the Connection, Galen lets jealousy and anger take over. When he explodes, Shane loses everything. Pride and misunderstanding keep them apart, but when Galen goes to Thanksgiving at his momma’s, alone, she gives him some very sound advice.

Rain and Whiskey has a different feel to it, and I didn’t see this relationship as insta-love or friends with benefits. BA Tortuga created two special characters who make unique companions, and they keep learning about each other until love starts to grow between them. I enjoyed every moment of Rain and Whiskey and can’t wait to see what the future holds for Galen and Shane in Tropical Depression, book two in the Stormy Weather series.

The last fourth of this book redeemed the entire plot in this very sexy, sex-driven story! I have to begin the review this way because it is simply the truth. This book is a marathon of sex between two men, Galen and Shane. Shane is a bartender, kicked out by his family, adrift, living moment to moment. Galen is recently retired from pro-football and living a comfortable and admittedly lonely life by choice, They meet, sparks fly and they spend pages and pages having wild, hot sex and avoiding commitment while craving it totally!

I almost put this book aside...for truly, after a bit, one needs a plot to fit the endless sex scenes. I persevered because I had heard such good thing abut this author, B.A. Tortuga---and let me say that all...ALL the things I had heard are true!! B.A. Tortuga is a really fine story teller! I do wish the story had gotten developed sooner but the wait was worth it!! The ending of this book was sweet with a touch of angst and just simply lovely to see--characters really sprung to life in the last section and you wanted more--more of them when you finished!

So, be forewarned...this is not a plot driven novel--but the end is well worth the wait!

I really liked the chemistry between Shane and Galen, even their shorthand way of talking to each other. But when that's what the whole story became, it eventually made it hard to finish the book. The little pieces of life outside their relationship were refreshing, like the visits with Galen's mother, and I found myself hoping for more of that.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the characters in this erotic M/M-ROM, but at the end of the book, I didn't really feel like very much happened. This first installment was the better of the two, as in this one had some sort of plot, but the second installment was truly just a f%@k-fest with little or no story development. While there are erotic series that focus on sex, there is story and character development that makes the series progress. Unfortunately, this series just didn't do it for me.

An OK read, I almost abandoned it at one point but decided to persevere. Two hot cowboys, a hell of a lot of sexy steamy sex, and a bloody lot of the F word splattered in each sentence they uttered, as much I like reading mm sexiness, I found myself skimming some scenes, they were a little repetitive. But the crux of the story shone through and that's why I did decide to finish it, also because the two men were stinking cute.

Impressive and flawed; a human rendition of how delicious sex proves to be when everything slots into place. A mouth-watering example of contemporary romance, even when the ease with which dilemma were resolved left you wondering as to how much the characters feel for each other, so as to cast aside the whole of their respective egos to reconcile. A highly-recommended read.

RAIN AND WHISKEY is the first in BA Tortuga’s Stormy Weather series. Former football player and dive shop owner Galen Frost and bartender Shane Barton get along like a house on fire. They hit a bump in the road when Galen’s past rears its head.

Book: Rain and Whiskey
Author: B.A. Tortuga
Rating: 3.75 stars

Two guys who start as a one night stand find themselves unable to stay away from each other for long and what grows from their hot and steamy lust affair to two men who are finding what they need each other at a time when they didn’t know they needed it. Galen’s past comes walking in when he least expected it and his jealous stubborn ways do rear their ugly head causing more trouble than he needs. Can they find their way back after Shane loses everything at the expense of Galen’s trouble?

First thing I feel I should mention about Rain and Whisky is that it is more erotica than it is erotic romance. The story itself wasn’t bad because of this and it is clear the purpose of the amount of sex scenes in this story was because of the idea that these two guys have very healthy libido’s and are so hot for each other they go at it all the time. BUT my problem with that is, with this length book, we get what feels like an overabundance of sex and not enough growth of the characters or their connection in other ways.

There are little things here and there that we learn about each guy and makes you like who they are. I mean truly loved these two and their fun and lively banter. And man oh man is their sex off the charts hot and adventurous! Shane is a bartender who lives his life day to day not making plans and just enjoying his young life. Where as Galen is an ex-football player with a troubled past and a newly purchased bait shop to keep him busy when he doesn’t need to work. Both are more for the one night stand than they are for relationships so I liked how they were taken back by how they truly started to feel for the other but not wanting to rock the boat and scare the other away. Around 50% through the book is when we start to see more development on their relationship but I would’ve liked for it to happen a bit more earlier than that.

One other thing I want to mention is there was a part in the epilogue that I felt came out of nowhere with no explanation as authors are normal to do so it left me with questions but it wasn't anything major that took away from the story, more of an annoyance for me. It does look like this a series with Galen and Shane as the MC’s so hopefully we get more story and less sex in book two.

If you like lots of hot sex with flirty bartenders, ex-football players with trust issues, toys & nipple piercings, and rough sex pick this one up, it is definitely for you!

This book is different from a lot of books I read but I still enjoyed it.

Shane and Galen had an instant attraction that seemed to go from zero to a thousand in less than two seconds. Both men are total opposites. Shane is a party boy who is out for a good time and looks forward to the next party. Galen is an ex football player and mainly keeps to himself especially after a horrible incident a few years back that involved his ex and the man he trusted at the time.

Their attraction to one another seems to be the only thing they have in common. I have to say that the two men rarely ever talk to one another about anything serious and when they do talk to one another it usually involves things they want to do to the other sexually.

After some months together it becomes clear that though not intentional they both start to have more feelings then just lust for the other and it scares both men. But still they keep coming back to one another because the chemistry between each other is undeniable and hey cannot stay away.

Once both men finally except that more is going on between them other then a good time, they finally start opening up to each other about more serious things that has happened in their lives. Which is a good thing because Galen's past is about to blow back into his life unexpectedly and is about to cause some major issues between Shane and Galen.

The question is, Can a relationship that was based off of sex and lust for so long be strong enough to wade to stormy waters or will that water suck them under and not let them back up for air again.

As I stated this book is different from other books that I normally read, even still it was a good read and I enjoyed it. I wish there would have been a little more of a storyline and a little less sex but it was still a good read and when the two men was able to keep their hands off of one another and the storyline took hold it was a very interesting read.

I am looking forward to the next book in the series about Shane and Galen and I hope that it has more of a story behind it because I believe these two men have a lot more to say then just sex and I hope to find out more about them and their relationship outside of the bedroom.

Rain and Whiskey is Book 1 of the Stormy Weather series by BA Tortuga and is set in Florida.

Shane came to the small town on spring break and decided never to leave and with that decision was cut out of his family's life. He works as a bartender and lives up his beach bum life. One night, Galen Frost stops to get a drink in the bar and the two have an instant connection and they leave the bar for a hook-up. Galen is a retired semi-pro football player and decided to buy a bait shop and enjoy living in Florida. He takes Shane home with him that first night and is impressed that Shane takes everything he has dished out. And so begins their marathon sex relationship.

This book was very much about sex between the MC's. I was glad that it's fiction cause I was a little worried about how they still had any skin left especially since they like it rough. There were BDSM elements in the book but it was completely consensual among the MC's. Shane seemed like a good guy that was just enjoying life on the surface but was probably lonely deep down. Galen was a guy who has experienced a lot and wasn't looking for a relationship but accepted it once it came. The two of them are combustible together anywhere and everywhere.

Listen, kids, actually, you should definitely be over 18 to read this book, but the misunderstanding/conflict is the prime example of what will happen in a relationship if you spend 97.99% of your time naked, having sex, talking about sex, or planning ways to have sex. You've got to have a little conversation! Once this conflict happened, the MC's were able to get things back together. I wouldn't say they talked it out, as communication isn't really important to either of them but they made things work for themselves.

And yes it was a lot of sex, I may have mentioned that before, but it was hot. It was detailed, graphic, varied and hot! And the book ended with a promise of Book 2, the next story for Shane and Galen. So if you're looking for a book that's going to be hot with hardly any angst, this is the book for you!

Gave 2.5 rating but rounded up to 3 for this review
First off I want to saw that I am a fan of BA's books but this wasnt one of my favorites from her. This is a story about 2 men who meet and sparks fly immediately. Galen and Shane have sex alot in this book. I found myself wide eyed as I read some of this hot scenes. Boy OH Boy, BA knows how to write sex scenes but that was all this story was until the end. I wanted more from this story really, I was waiting for the story itself. These 2 men meet in a bar Shane is working in and they get right into it. Shane is easy going and Galen is trying to be. Towards the end of this story we get to see more of what Shane and Galen have besides the sex but I would have loved to see that earlier on. I definitely read this one for the hot scenes but towards the end I was cheering for these guys to find their HEA.

A one night stand between two hot, sexy, guys ends up becoming more than either thought they needed. Galen is a retired football player and Shane is new to the town and working as a bartender. They each have their own baggage, but Galen’s troubled past threatens to bring Shane down with it.

Having read this author before, I was expecting hot sex and an intense connection between the men. I got the hot sex, but couldn’t imagine the connection between Galen and Shane being strong. Maybe it was because of all of the rough sex (and boy did they like it rough). I had to fan myself off a few times as I was reading. But, sex does not make a relationship and it certainly did not cement their love for each other for me. Attraction? Yes. Lust? Oh YES!

While this isn’t a terrible book, it wasn’t what I was expecting. If you like your MM full of raw, animalistic, rough, sexy, interludes, you will love this one! As for me, enjoyed it. It just didn’t meet my full expectations.

Rain and Whiskey I believe is one of this author's earlier works brought back by another publisher. It is categorized as Erotic Romance, but I feel it is pure erotica. Don't get me wrong it wasn't a bad story. I liked the characters both Galen and Shane, but I found myself skimming looking for the story, hoping it would come soon as things were hinted at. What little story came was near the very end.
Again I state, I love this author, and the story isn't bad,.If pure erotica and page after page of hot, explicit and rough sex is your thing you will love this. I think it is a set up for a series and we get a good look at Galen and Shane and their relationship. The blurb at the end and chapter for the next book has me waiting. I do hope there is a bit less sex, though.

If you like bartenders, cowboys, ex-football players, lust at first sight, a bit of rough sex, and lots and lots of explicit man-sex this is for you.

From that review: I first read Rain and Whiskey way back when so I was beyond delighted to get reacquainted with Len and Shane of B.A. Tortuga's Stormy Weather series. Turns out I had missed them something fierce.

From the moment Shane and Galen lay eyes on each other in Miss Lynn's bar where Shane is tending bar there is no keeping these two apart! In true Tortuga style, they almost combust right on the bar floor but make it to Galen's new home in the swamp and Bait shop. Its heat, sweat, and sex...all delivered in that wonderful Tortuga vernacular and style!"

I’m pretty sure “rain” and “whiskey” were code words for “sex” and “more sex” – jeesh! I love erotica – probably more than many; however, I ended up skimming pages pretty early on in order to finish and call this one done. There was very little plot and really only found myself engaged in the story when the main characters ran into a bit of trouble toward the end. What did I like about this story? It helped me complete one of my categories for a reading challenge and that pretty much sums it up!

I never thought that there can be such a thing as too much sex in a book, but yes. This is the case. The sex scenes are hot and plentiful…but I like at least a little plot in my books, thank you very much. And by plot I certainly don't mean the four sentences describing how Galen and Shane got from the car (where they had sex) to the house (where they will have sex).

Lots and lots of sex. Just about the whole book takes place in a bedroom. There was still enough description for the characters to have likable personalities. I just wished that there was a little more plot or background included.

I have to admit that you simple have to be in mood for a story like this. The plot was basic and easy, drawn around two guys who met and start a relationship full of sex. And this story is 98% sex, sex, sex. And it was simple to much of it, really!
