Billie's family believes there should be no secrets between them ever, but Billie feels she needs some privacy, so when she comes up with a magic make-up bag that allows her to be invisible, she feels all her dreams have come true.
I've been reading this chapter by chapter as a read aloud with a 3rd grader I tutor. I finally borrowed it to finish it. While it is "cute", it is also kind of lame at the end. I thought for certain being invisible would lead Billie to do a few more interesting things, but going to a shop, a movie set, a department store's candy section, and taking a subway ride to get "uninvisible" is about the extent of this adventure. I guess for a girl completely sheltered this IS an adventure, but I just think the book's premise had a lot more potential. For what it is, it is a sweet read and teaches a lesson without really teaching one, if that is possible. Good for 3rd graders even ESL students who have been here a year or so.
Fun book for 4-6th graders. New York landmarks and day in the life of a girl seeking some independence while still being a kid. Also, some touches on bullying.
It was really good great book for kids and young people and it was funny easy to read and not very long Only 24 chapters! Two thumbs up! I really like the author and the story!
I remember loving this book as a kid, and I'm surprised to see how many little ratings/reviews it has on Goodreads. But I absolutely love it! Lipstick that makes you talk in rhyme, and makeup that makes you invisible? Yes, yes, yes!
