Coup de foudre à Notting Hill

Rate this book

Good. It's a movie that I like in some ways, and don't as much in others. Enjoyable enough though. The script was interesting.

I didn't fancy the film when it came out, even though I knew the locale from my younger days in London, mainly because I was not a Hugh Grant fan. However, I spotted a synopsis on TV when it was to be shown and saw mention of a bookseller so I decided to give it a watch. Thank goodness I did for the film was magnificent and Grant was excellent - as was Julia Roberts and the rest of the cast.

I was so taken I had to find a copy of the screenplay and duly did so.The read is just as good as the watch with all of Richard Curtis' characters genuine and standing out as being someone we could all know. A romantic comedy in which there is no violence and no unadulterated swearing, the book is so engaging that it is difficult to put it down and it is best read in one sitting.

The photographs of the locale are superb, bringing back many memories for me, and there is an afterword by Hugh Grant which not only gives the background to the writing of the movie but also captures magical moments on the set. Finally there are a series of scenes that made the cutting room floor, for one reason or another, and they are just as funny as those that survived.

A magnificent read (and watch!) - don't miss it.

Even tho its a screenplay, which i don't normally read, I love this movie so much that it was fun to read it and picture all the characters in my head, doing their lines. Also, besides a hilarious foreword from Richard Curtis (explaining how he came up with the idea for the movie), there are more "deleted scenes" at the end and a humorous afterword from Hugh Grant, so worth it!

Ah I love this book! I read it in about a day which is saying a lot as I’m not a fast reader. It’s the script book of the film but it also has pictures and sections of the script that were cut from the film. If you enjoyed Notting Hill then I really recommend reading this because it will take you back to all the romance and magic!

I don't usually read screenplays, but this is one of my favorite movies and I loved this book! Lots of great photos from the movie, and even some omitted scenes at the end. Great addition to my collection.

If you like the movie, then this is just like reading a script of it. Such a cute story (and Notting Hill is such a beautiful area of London!)

The story itself was a 3/5 (really basic nothing new but still cute) but the fact the author persist to talk badly about one of the group’s friends who is overweighted really disturbs me !

I really enjoyed reading this book, nevermind that it's a screenplay, I loved it. Initially looked for it after watching the movie a little while back. Usually when you watch a movie then read the book you end up thinking the movie was really bad but that was not the case with this novel. The book is a spitting image of the movie, and I'm ok with that simply because the movie was well made. Today I'm glad that the book was well written too.

Might I add that Julia Roberts was absolutely magnificent in the movie, as was Hugh Grant.

My favorite quote:
"I'm also just a girl, standing in front of a boy, Asking him to love her"

Thank you.

the book is a romantic story about a famous actress and an ordinary person falling in love with each other, trying to work things out to make their relationship work ofcource they had alot of ups and downs but at the end they got what they fought for.
i recommend this story to every type of readers because it doesn't focus on romance but also alot of humour and thrilling moments, i truly think every one should read it.
you won't regret it ;)

I’ve always loved the Notting Hill movie — especially that beautiful scene where a whole year passes as the seasons change. I still think the movie captured the story best. But after visiting Notting Hill this summer and stepping into the iconic bookstore, I fell in love with the story all over again. There’s something magical about experiencing the town in real life — its charm makes the story feel even more special.

I loved the whole new format of screenplays. This is the first time I'm reading a screenplay and it was a bit odd and unsettling at first but I must say, it was new and exciting! And of course, since I've already seen the movie it added to the thrill!
