These are the published scripts of the hugely successful series. 'Little Britain' is the TV comedy everyone is talking about, and has made instant stars of its creators, Matt Lucas and David Walliams. The show has a cult following, and the books will have material and photographs produced exclusively for the book. 'Little Britain' has become Britain's best-loved sketch comedy since 'The Fast Show' -- at this year's BAFTAs it won Best Comedy Series or Programme and was nominated for the Best Comedy Performance Award. It has already gone from cult cool to the kind of quotable success that comedy classics are made of. The characters from 'Little Britain' are already household Daffyd, the only gay man in his village (and that's the way he wants to keep it); Jason, the teenage boy with an unhealthy attraction to his best friend's granny; Marjorie Dawes as the terrifying FatFighters group leader; Emily Howard, the rubbish transvestite; Bernard Chumley, the ageing theatre actor with a suspicious need to rid himself of his sister; and, of course, Vicky Pollard as the incomparably incoherent young offender. The show has made stars of Matt Lucas -- who appeared as overgrown baby George Dawes on BBC Two quiz 'Shooting Stars' -- and David Walliams, previously seen on the comedy-drama 'Attachments' and spoof show 'Rock Profiles', alongside Lucas. Both stars will help create the Little Britain script book, writing new exclusive material and plenty of unique additional features throughout. We will produce a lavish, colour book -- illustrated throughout -- that will make this book an instant classic.
Little Britain has been showing on HBO and BBC Entertainment, in Romania. When I first saw a few episodes I felt some repulsion, then smiled and now I can say that I love (most of) the series.
I love British humor and have been a fan of Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, How Not to Live Your Life, Extras and some episodes of Black Adder and The Office.
In fact, there are scenes in Little Britain that are hilarious, even if definitely offensive for some audiences- the series are clearly banned in places like Saudi Arabia, Brunei or other sharia-law lands of milk and honey.
Some of the new humor is outrageous, sometimes uproariously funny at other times kind of repulsive:
I am thinking Louis CK and some of the material which made me think do I laugh or do I puke- all in all I am enjoying him, if not 100% at least most of the jokes, or is it half?
In one of the first episodes of Louie, there is talk around the poker table, the episode might have poker in the title and the conversation goes something like this:
- How do you gay people get together
- We have a party organized
- Where?
- In a hotel room
- Ahm
- Everybody has to wear shoes and socks
- Why??
- Because we jerk each other off
Common! Am I too prudish or this is too much to take? And to think that this is going mainstream is perplexing- Louis CK is nominated for an Emmy. Again and again.
It is not bad, it is just awkward and astonishing to think of the journey between banning Joyce and accepting jokes with so much sperm on the floor that you need not only shoes, but socks as well…OMG as young people say today!
Coming back to Little Britain, there are some outlandish and sensational moments in this excellent, for this listener here.
In one episode, David Williams a young, regular (we think) guy visiting another “normal „personage played by Matt Lucas. The two actors have an incredible portfolio, playing an amazing range- from grannies to homosexuals, through crazy teens on to fitness instructors and fake handicapped people. You name it, they have it.
Anyway, in this scene which made me laugh my pants off, proof that I am probably a nut case as well as those in the series- Williams enters a room where there is a rather old granny, ninety to a hundred years old. It goes along these lines;
- Oh!!!! Granny!! You didn’t tell me you have such a gorgeous granny
- Well…let us sit at the table
- Oh I spilled some cherry sauce on my blouse- says granny
- Let me clean it for you! And Williams starts massaging the breast of the old woman in a vigorous and erotic manner- Oh my God in Heavens!!
- What is that dog doing under the table!!
- Granny, the dog died 17 years ago – we understand that Williams was poking granny under the table…
- Oh gosh, mmh brmmm-
- Granny is chocking, help!
Williams jumps up, starts to push on granny from the back to help her throw whatever is blocking her respiration, but his movements get more and more lascivious, moving back and forth and moaning
- Ahhh….ooooooh…..yeaaaahh...
You may find this sick (did you, Chris??) but not only I laughed my head off, but I told the story to both Eugen and Camil at the Lycee Francais.
The limits of acceptable, public airing TV, even prime time – are fast changing. For now, I move my nose at some, but others are really Amusing
And let’s not forget- Amusement is one of the ingredients of Positivity, found by Barbara Fredriksson, author of the theory “Broaden and Build” for which she was rewarded with prestigious Prize and frequent reference by the distinguished masters of Positive Psychology: Martin Seligman, Daniel Gilbert, Sonja Lyubomirsky and others.
