Ever Wondered What It Would Be Like To Do A BIG Road Trip in the USA? Find out from the comfort of your armchair!
North America is a big place - huge, in fact - and the author and his girlfriend spent 3 months seeing as much of it as they could by car, train, bus and even snowmobiles. They covered about 12,000 miles in all, taking in 30 US States, Canada and even a bit of Mexico.
From the big cities (New York, San Francisco, Toronto, New Orleans) to the rural beauty of the American wilderness (Big Sur, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley) they tried to fit in as much as they could.
They went snowmobiling in the Canadian Rockies and saw an Ultimate Fighting Championship event in Las Vegas. They stayed in an ice hotel, went to Disneyland and Niagara Falls. They went to Florida Keys, New England and the Deep South, and were chased out of Georgia by a car full of murderous locals!
Join the author and his long-suffering girlfriend on the trip of a lifetime. A hundred joyful experiences punctuated with bouts of boring driving and nights in some seriously scary motels, this is a warts-and-all account of an enormous journey told with (sometimes) brutal honesty.
Contains strong, infrequent bad language.
Amazon I've been thinking about going to the States for a while now and have bought one or two travel guides. They show a lot of pictures and list a lot of hotels, but they don't really tell you what a place is like to travel through. This book is all about the travel! From New York to New York by way of New England, Canada, Vancouver, San Francisco, Arizona, New Orleans and a hundred other places in between, I felt like I was right there with them.
I was beginning to lose all hope with emerging writers, it seemed everywhere I looked was teenage vampire tripe! However, this is a fantastically honest and hilarious account of this writers trip. Once I'd finished I felt as if I knew these people and had travelled alongside them. If you want a read great, honest, articulate and intelligent read then this is the book for you!
I should disclose at the outset that I know the author, so I may be a little biased! Still, that said, I think this is a great book. Steve (and his girlfriend Steph) travel all over the States and Canada and this book covers their 3 month trip in some detail. I'm sure Steve won't mind me saying but he can be a grumpy git at times, and this made his encounters with some of the locals that upset him all the more hilarious. Only Steve could get angry in Disney World! I'm laughing as I write this. Give it a go - it's only 70p / $1 or so.
A superb account of travelling the length and breadth of the USA and parts of Canada. It's given me a real appetite for wanting to do the same thing myself sometime in the future. I'd be wary of visiting Georgia though.
