Rate this book
All teachers look to deliver inspiring, innovative and imaginative lessons. What better way to engage students and help them learn more effectively? Roy Watson-Davis draws on a deep well of creativity and on his experience as an AST and mentor to share numerous suggestions for original, inventive approaches to lessons. Use his ideas as starting points for your own brain waves, or import and adapt them for your own classroom. As well as creative starters, 'kernels' and closers, sections of the book are devoted to questioning technique, active learning, technology, revision and teamwork. Roy aims to stimulate and support creative practice by challenging you to move out of your comfort try pegging maths equations across your room washing-line-style, or adopting 'the fruit bowl approach', or how about delivering a lesson in costume? Take the plunge, recharge your batteries and watch your students' enthusiasm increase.

A decent outline with some great ideas old and new. The 'pocketbook' nature allows you to 'dip' in and out with nothing too strenuous to think through. Ideas are well presented and, like all books of this nature, some will inspire, some will provoke thought, and some can be jettisoned. Good to reflect on practice and some interesting ideas for the new term here.

This book is a great, easy read which I would recommend to all teachers at whatever stage of their career/training. It covers all of the minute but crucial details which contribute to boosting each individual child’s confidence, thus enhancing their engagement and participation in the classroom. In essence, this book provides a very useful guide in how to create a positive learning environment. What I love about this book is that, unlike others which I have read, it helps to put theory into practice. Rather than simply suggesting great ideas, Watson-Davis gives practical advice on how to achieve such aims. I already know some tips that I am definitely going to try out!
