I’ve spent all my life in the Midwest, which has certainly shaped my perspective on all kinds of issues, from the question of whether or not we really have an accent, to the many and varied uses of corn.

I was born in Evansville, Indiana on April 28, 1965. Mom tells me almost every year what crappy weather it was that day. However I like to think of my birthday as the first frost-free date for my planting area. See what happens when you grow up around farmers? Scary, huh?

After a youth spent up to my eyeballs in fairy tales, nordic myths and supernatural legends I made the solid and practical decision to go to college and major in English. After which I never really held a well paying job until this gig came along! Which is why my kids love to sing that song to me from the musical “Avenue Q.” The one that begins with the line, “What do you do with a B.A. in English?”

Once I figured out the answer to that question, I wrote Once Bitten, Twice Shy. Now my laptop is my constant companion. We reside in an old farmhouse along with my husband and our two teenagers. No pets since the cat died last winter, but the birds seem to appreciate his absence. They come to feast at the feeders while I write on the back porch in the cool of the morning. Lovely.

A great little in-between short story with just Jaz and Vayl. Told in alternating narratives it's nice to get Vayl's perspective and feelings on Jaz since the main story series is told from her point of view. Released posthumously, this novella along with Scouting Jasmine and The Golem Hunt fit nicely into the overall storyline.

Kinda short. About the length of one chapter.

I was a huge fan of this series, grabbing them as soon as they hit the shelves & was saddened when I heard the author had passed away. Her books provided me with many hours of laughter & sighs.
So when I came across this novella, I picked it up for one more visit with Vayl (a hunk among vampires) & his human colleague, Jaz. In the overall arc of the story, at this point they are enjoying a successful professional partnership. Both feel the mutual attraction but Jaz is fighting it for all she's worth. Vayl has other plans.
What follows is a shortie (44 kindle pages) that covers them as they have an actual date, Vayl style.
Seriously, if you haven't read this series & are a fan of sexy vamps & feisty, smart humans, start at the beginning. The books are full of action, comedy, great paranormal characters, eccentric humans & romance. The relationship between the two main protagonists is traced from their initial meeting to something much, MUCH more (jeez, hand me that fan...NOW!). There are moments that make you gasp or laugh out loud while these two gradually find their HEA.

To be honest with you, I didn't really see the point to this story. Jaz freaks out about what dress to wear for dinner with Vayl before he goes off to Romania to take care of his issues over the death of his sons. Vayl wonders what Jaz is wearing. Jaz gets pissed to see two sinks in the bathroom at Vayl's home in case that means other women have been there, which is such a stupid thing to have a tantrum over. You know he has had countless women before you yet you have a hissy fit over two sinks in a bathroom??? And then Vayl gets snotty seeing Jaz wearing a men's shirt and demands to know who it belongs to. This is really childish stuff which makes me want to slap them both. So no action or anything except yet another pointless fight.

I loved this short story. It was so good to see Jaz and Vayl between missions, getting some alone time - just on the verge of getting together. And seeing things from both sides was a really nice touch. To know how strongly Vayl already felt about Jaz - how he'd thought about touching her. The thought that he'd put into their evening together.

It was great to know a bit more backstory as well - what draws Vayl to Jaz - how he believes it's destined.

Yes, its a shame it wasn't longer - but it was perfect as it was.

3,5 Sterne.

Lame novella or short story

Disappointed in the novella. No meat in the story, you would think their would be more to the date than showing off Vayl house. Maybe a little romance other than a goodbye kiss. Lame attempted to sell a short story could of made a chapter in one of the novels. It would of been a lot more worthy. Sorry still a fan.

This was a cute short story that gives a glimpse into a bit of Vayl and Jazz's relationship that we don't see in the novels. It is a little sad that there won't be any additional writings done by this amazingly funny author. Holy lima beans, need I say more.

Once again we are given insight into Vayl's head, though this time the story is split between the two. This story is short and has absolutely no threat in it, as it focuses on the budding romance between our favorite CIA assassins.

It was ok but way too short. I'm not sure if I should continue with this series or not.
