David Kirk is the creator of children's books that follow the character Miss Spider. Before writing books, he made colorful toys that were sold in hand-painted boxes. He was urged to write children's books when his toys caught the interest of a book packager. It wasn't difficult to figure out what he would use as characters in his stories: his daughter, Violet, had a liking for bugs.

Miss Spider's books are always fun to read. Mr Kirk always teaches the reader-listener life lessons without throwing it down their throats. In this story the gang is out playing with neighbor friends. Two of the little buggies are tired of being the little ones and they venture off by themselves and get into some trouble. But the others come to the rescue and everyone learns a lesson of how to treat each others and their feelings.

This was a cute tale picked by my toddler at the library. I don't think it necessarily encourages me to seek out the others in the series.
