In the corridors of Hamilton College lies a secret. Behind the facade is a world of brutality, where rugby rules all and boys must learn to be men...even if it kills them. When one student makes a stand, another must decide what really matters. Events of the past avalanche into the present and bring students face to face with the shadows in the mirror.
Two stars - one for skilfully setting the tone and maintaining the tension and the sense of imminent doom, and one for a strong, interesting and mildly complex narrator.
Unfortunately, this novel felt a little too light for what it set out to achieve. Many of the characters were over-the-top caricatures that distracted me from the underlying themes that story addresses. Still, it was well-paced enough to get me through the book in a single sitting, and it had a very Australian flavour to it, which was a strange comfort when on a 2-hour train journey in Japan.
Bro this book is so bad. it has n tabouli and is not fully sik. I'll get all my boys from Punchbowl to screwdriver Cameron Nunn. My nan who is blind and only speaks arabic is a better author than this
