Prince Luka, second in line to the Drakazov Kingdom, once loved the spotlight. Now, having seen the horrors of war, he prefers to hide from the world.
And from his former best friend, Maya.
When Maya invites herself to his estate, Luka cannot send her away...not when he still remembers the heated night they shared before he left for the front.
Arcanepunk inventor Lady Maya is not just visiting an old friend, however. Sick of her father's attempts to marry her off, she's arrived with an agenda: Crown Princess Annika has promised her freedom from her father's schemes—if she can convince Luka to accept a strategically advantageous engagement.
As Maya helps Luka heal, she’s shaken by how easy it would be to fall for him again. When the time comes to give him up to another woman, will Maya be able to do it?
And will Luka ever forgive her for her lies?

Right from the get go of Promised to the Prince I knew I was going to like Maya. She’s a badass with a weapon right from the opening scene and I loved it. This opinion stuck with me throughout the entirety of the book, though for different reasons. Though she puts down the sword in later years, she is still such a strong, independent woman throughout the course of the novel, both past and present, and this made her such a standout character.
The back and forth between how Luka and Maya first got to know each and become good friends, to a few years down the road when they have lost contact was such a great element to this book. I enjoyed the juxtaposition from where they were in school to where their lives had led to years later, and it really made this book for me. They go from competitive students, both trying to be the very best, to completely different adults than what they ever expected for themselves. Maya, rather than being a great warrior, makes battle weapons instead, whereas Luka is a bitter, injured soldier incapable of being on the frontlines ever again due to the severity of an injury he received in battle.
Maya and Luka have to relearn each other and their friendship after three years of being apart with no communication, having to learn each other all over again because they have changed so much in the years between. They struggle through miscommunications, discovering who they are through the different traumas and difficulties they have both faced in the years since they last saw each other, but they they manage to figure out who they are together.
Promised to the Prince by Sirena Knighton was a pleasant, quick little read containing both romance and politics as with the first installment in the Song of the Four Kingdoms series. This one is a stand-alone as with the previous, though reading the prior book does help to fill in the blanks on certain details so is advisable. And once again we are left with a rather insidious epilogue that hints at details coming in the next book in the series and leaves the reader with questions.
This book is a great read for fans of fantasy romance, with an emphasis on romance, and is a short, fun ride to jump into!
This was a beautiful story in this fantastic series. I loved Wedded to the Warlord so I had high expectations for this book, and Sirena Knighton didn’t disappoint.
It was beautiful in its entirety. I love how this magical world develops with each book. You can’t fail to be drawn deeper and deeper into the story as you walk alongside these character that quickly become your friends.
Luka is a man in pain, literally. Injuries he sustained while fighting those his father and uncle deemed enemies. I love his strong moral compass in wanting to do the right thing and wanting peace, I think he’s an admirable man.
I wanted to hug him for his suffering. His injuries made him feel less of a man, but I just wanted him to realise how much he still had to offer, what a beautiful human being he was, despite his growly demeanour.
Maya is a total badass!! The things she can create is unreal. I know she feels less because she is fully human but I don’t think that should detract from the awe inspiring work she does to help others, despite the fact that she a woman and they are not looked upon in the same way as men.
I love how she pulled Luka from his stupor and low mood. She was exactly what he needed. I love the way she won’t let him hide and bless her, how she used her knowledge to aid him in his recovery.
It’s lovely when you don’t have to say something is wrong, because let’s face it, we all like to deny or cast aside whatever is causing us pain. But when someone sees what you’re hiding and does something to help because they care is the most selfless and beautiful thing ever.
This is an addictive read, full of energy, steam and a deep love sprouted from friendship that will wrap itself around your heart and hesitant to let go.
So compelling and beautiful. Can’t recommend highly enough.
This steampunk friends to lovers romance hit all the right notes. I was a little frustrated with how little Maya tried to talk to Luca about the very reason she was visiting him in the first place, though it was somewhat understandable with all the other things going on in the story. I enjoyed their backstory as rivals turned friends, and all her inventions were delightful. The magic system in this world is very interesting with cool steampunk elements. The ending felt a little rushed, but other than that it was a solid fantasy romance. I recommend this series for readers who like to watch people get in their own way sometimes, and enjoy a healthy dose of political intrigue in their fantasy romance.
Thank you to the author and Nerdy Book Tours for sending me an ARC to this swoon worthy tale with a second chance at romance and friends to lovers trope.
Prince Luka comes back from war a broken man and distances himself from everyone. This includes his childhood friend, Maya. But Maya refuses to accept it and forces him to acknowledge and accept help.
Maya is on a mission of her own to escape marriage and to continue working on her inventions without any shackles. As they try to navigate through everything, they grow closer to each other.
During this time, they learn of the possibility of traitors among them and vow to unearth their identity. They must work together to protect their country and their families from espionage.
Maya and Luka were amazingly written fierce characters who were easy to love and support. I loved how protective Luka was of his sister and Maya. I loved how fierce Maya was at not being shackled to anyone who would hinder her profession.
I loved watching them grow as the story progressed and understand each other better. The fact that they communicated with each other and understood the situation was admirable. A beautifully written character driven story perfect for fans of Grace Draven, Elise Kova!
I read (a short version I think) Enchanted by the Elven Prince in an anthology and loved it, and have been meaning to read more by this author since then. Darn my TBR for being so long.
Book 2 stands alone wonderfully but does mention Mallika from book 1, so if you haven't read it it 100% works and doesn't seem like it gives away any major spoilers since the summary says it is a HEA story.
In Promised to the Prince, Maya has to convince her old school friend Luka to marry into a powerful family so she won't be forced into a political marriage of her own. Unfortunately for the plan, Luka and Maya have unresolved tension from before he went to the battlefront. The story is well done and I loved the steampunk and magic setting. Both the characters of Maya and Luka were done really well and there are so many side characters I'd love to learn more about.
Definitely a great romantic fantasy for someone who wants to read either a series or a standalone.
I really liked this book. The magical setting of the kingdoms, wars en ways of living is beautifully written. The dynamiek between Maya and Luka is amazing. First, you get to read about their friendship when they are younger and the romantic feelings that are blooming. After three years, you get to know the adult characters and how they have changed because of the war and the time without each other. I love all the banter and tension between them. Maya is a stubborn smart female characters who does what she wants. Luka is a strongwilled characters who deals witch PTSD and the aftermatch of the war he fought in. This book is a standalone, you can read it without reading the first book of the series.
I really recommend to read this book and the others in this series!
What I really loved about this book was the steampunk element. It worked so well, and the imagery portrayed by the author was stunning. The main storyline had several subplots as with any great fantasy, but the romance was what had compelled me to read this book in the first place because it included a couple of my favorite tropes - second chance & friends to lovers. Luka and Maya's relationship was wonderful to read about, and their chemistry was palpable. All in all, this story was compelling and well-executed. Definitely recommend!
👤 Character development 4/5 🌍 World-building 5/5 📝 Plot 4/5
This is such a great fantasy romance! The setting is really cool, in a steampunk world, which I found fascinating! I also really like the main characters Maya and Luka. The friends to lovers romance was so well done with them. Their romance and chemistry is great! I liked the story and I read it pretty quickly because I really loved the characters and wanted to see what would happen!
I received an ARC from the author and I’m voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I didn’t like the wishy washy thing the MFC had going on. The main characters didn’t ‘get together’ until the last chapter. It felt like nothing really happened as well. I wouldn’t recommend the book honestly.
While I think there was promise in the plot, the execution fell flat for me and there were numerous mistakes and sentences/paragraphs in seemingly wrong order that made it hard to read.
