Trained to protect, Meredith West had always been self-sufficient.That is, until she discovered she had a stalker. Suddenly, the tough, trained bodyguard was a damsel in distress--and too embarrassedto ask for help. Lucky for her, she didn't have to.
Under the guise of needing a vacation, disturbingly handsomeinvestigator Chase McCall arrived in Cotter Creek, Oklahoma. The purpose of his trip was complex--and a conflict of interest givenhis sizzling reaction to Meredith. Not only did she need his protection, but she was also a potential link to solving his top-secret case--andthe potential key to his happiness.
I loved this book. It will go on my favorite list, and I am sure I will read it again later on. This book was a double romance, with action, suspense, and shocking twist along the way.
Chase, and Kathy are undercover FBI agents on a assignment to investigate farmers being murdered. They are staying with the West family. Meredith grew up with her five brothers, and her dad. Her mother was murdered when she was very little. Smokey has been working for the West family for years. He is practical family. The kitchen is his area. He gets a little grumpy when anyone is in his kitchen cooking. It was funny when Kathy wakes early and starts cooking for the family. That started the romance between Kathy, and Smokey. The banter was fun between the couple.
The chemistry simmered and sparked the first time Chase and Meredith met. Meredith started receiving creepy notes from a admirer. Chase was sure that she needed a body guard. She reminded him that she was a professional body guard. Both Meredith, and Chase kept me laughing throughout the story.
The plot of the story was very good, with a lot going on. The characters in the story were enjoyable. I could feel the love between the family members of the West family. The humor just added to the story.
I would recommend this book to everyone who likes a good romance, with action, and suspense.
Sample from chapter 9 - Chase grabbed his jacket and fell into step with her. "I doubt I need bodyguard protection in my own stables," she said as they walked toward the wooden structure in the distance. "Besides, I have my own gun." she moved the side of her jacket to show the weapon stuffed into her waistband. "Armed women always turn me on," he said teasingly. "I think probably breathing women turn you on," she retorted with a laugh. "That's not true," He protested. "You make me sound like a helpless womanizer and I'm not."
Sample from chapter 11 - "Chase!" The scream ripped from Meredith as she reached for her gun, jumped off her horse and hit the ground. She pointed her gun in the direction where she thought the shot had come from but saw no movement in the trees, couldn't find a target to defend them against. Her heart thundered in her chest with sickening speed as she crawled on all fours across the ground toward Chase.
A nice, well wrapped little package that is worth going in the cart. If you have a fondness for romance with a bite of suspense, this title needs to go on your list.
Really good chemistry. I would have liked to give it a 5 but Meredith's behavior was almost too stupid to live throughout the story. She has many good qualities but I didn't like how she handled her mysterious stalker/admirer. For so long she felt like someone was watching her and so many times she though that the stuff that was happening to her was connected and serious. But even near 3/4 of the book she didn't tell anyone. If this is how a person who is a bodyguard by profession, handles her own life, how will she handle others? I don't doubt she could protect others but all of this must start with oneself.
