Sixty compelling black-and-white images highlight a retrospective of the work of pioneering American photographer Jerry Uelsmann, bringing together a selection of compelling photographs, ranging from the early 1960s to the present, that reveal his dramatic synthesis of photographs from multiple negatives. 10,000 first printing.
One of the most brilliant print makers of our time... A master of the darkroom. A creator of techniques and images that will awe any photography lover. when looking at his images, you think photoshop all over. but all his images are film, and his techniques are all in the darkroom. his images are incomparable. <3
This book still stands out to me to this day for photography books (purchased during the release year in '05). Ahead of its time and not much to compare it to. Amazing imagery and thought provoking! A perfect book to have laid out on the table when guests come over, as they'd likely flip through a few pages, then more, then before they know it they've looked through most of the beautiful pictures and a conversation would likely spark up due to it. Highly recommended!
Jerry Uelsmann is an amazing montage photographer who still creates in the darkroom, a dying skill, as others turn to digital. I met him when we were snowbound in O'Hare in Chicago, saw his portfolio and was hooked way back then. He was a cult figure at the time and has gone on to have his work placed in major museums all over the world.
Jerry N. Uelsmann has not only fulfilled his hope for himself: "Ultimately my hope is to amaze myself," but he has amazed us! His photography is otherworldly, meditative, and deeply thought provoking.
