Raising Righteous and Rowdy Girls

Rate this book
It has been said that daughters are God’s revenge on fathers for the kind of men they were when they were young. Some would say that both Doug Giles and I, given our infamous pasts, are charter members of that club. However, Doug and I know that his two wonderful daughters and my equally wonderful daughter and two granddaughters are truly God’s fantastic gift. With the wisdom of hindsight and experience Doug has written the ultimate manual for dads on raising righteous and rowdy daughters who will go out into the world well prepared- morally, physically, intellectually and with joyful hearts- to be indomitable and mighty lionesses in our cultural jungle. Through every raucous and no-holds-barred page, Doug, the incomparable Dad Drill Sergeant, puts mere men through the paces to join the ranks of the few, the proud, and the successful fathers of super daughters. The proof of Doug Giles’ gold-plated credentials are Hannah and Regis Giles- two of the most fantastic, great hearted and accomplished young ladies I have ever known. This is THE BOOK that I will be giving the father of my two precious five and three year old granddaughters. Tiger Mom meet Lion Dad! — Pat Caddell Fox News Contributor —

As the new father of a six-month-old daughter, I figured that I'd better get an early start on this. And since I also teach high school kids, I know how badly things can end up if you do it wrong. Giles has a lot of good advice here for people who want to be sure that their little girls would be able to defend themselves, stay away from jerks, and become strong, smart, gracious women. There are a couple of parts here that I'm still at least mulling over (I'm not really interested in hunting although I had no problem with it, and since I come from a family that was affected by alcohol I'm still not sure what to do about alcohol use), but overall I really got a lot out of it. At the very least, I'm already thinking about finding a local martial arts school so I can get a few years ahead of my daughter before it's time to start to train her. :)

The fourteen chapters in this brief, 140 page, book covers the following subjects: teaching your daughters to fight, shoot guns, sense B. S., be classy, be a visionary, avoid anti-intellectualism, avoid the date from Hell, and much more in the author’s robust, forthright, sometimes a bit too bawdy, but easy, entertaining, an conversational style. Chapter 8, Teach Your Daughter To Despise Anti-Intellectualism includes a book list and other study aids (dictionary, etc.) to illustrate that leaders are readers. The book is illustrated with clever black and white cartoons by the author.

Given that Doug (Leslie) Giles had an extra marital affair with one of his church attendees and his oldest daughter had at least two extra marital affairs that I personally know of, the entire book is a hypocritical. Doug's only harmed his daughters, specifically by imposing himself in a book deal that was offered to his daughter Hannah. It's a family of lost sheep in much need of therapy and serious prayers.

Doug Giles kills a herd of sacred cows in his raw and edgy instruction manual for Dads. He paints a graphic picture of the challenges that await their daughters in the rough and tumble world that exists outside the safety of the family home. But the shock and awe is followed up with practical, biblical based advice on preparing daughters for it.

Giles keeps a smile on your face (or your head shaking) with his omnipresent rim-shot one-liners!

Very in your face advice and requirements in his mind to raise your daughter as a smart tough young woman confident in herself and her abilities. Teaches the importance of not being dependant on men, even good ones, but espicially the bad ones.

My dad bought this and told me to read it. I'm not exactly sure what he's trying to say...

This book gives a good message, but nothing that I haven't already (thankfully) been raised with. Politically-correct people steer clear, you might seriously get offended.
