DNF #2 of 2024. I couldn't get past the errors. ;( I wish I could have, but it wasn't something my brain is capable of overlooking.

Let me start off by saying that I do think this had promise and for the most part I did enjoy myself but I think what would have taken this from 2 to 3 stars would have been better consistency in the writing and to not focus so much on ramming tropes into the plot. There were moments that Carina and cassians “hatred” for each other seemed really forced especially from Carinas perspective and it made her come across as extremely childish and annoying. I don’t think there was all that much character development either and I believe this was sacrificed for avénese between Carina and Cassian’s tension. This brings me to another point, the book could have easily been edited down to at least 350 pages, I just think there were so many unnecessary things that weren’t relevant and interactions that served to add nothing to Cassian and Carinas dynamic or reflect any kind of personal development.

I think it goes with out saying too that this book is not well edited, there were multiple errors in spelling and grammar which for me isn’t a big deal because at the end of the day I got this book through unlimited but for someone whose payed for it, the author needs to be more careful or hire an editor with more experience.

Grammatical errors aside, this book was absolutely fantastic! The plot was unique enough to catch and keep my attention to the point where I read this and the 2nd book in 2 days. I can’t praise this enough. The FMC being such a bada** was such a breath of fresh air with the addition of a morally grey MMC who secretly adores the FMC was the icing on the cake. The world created was well thought out, and I found myself easily becoming engrossed in every word wanting to know more about every character and place. I enjoyed the twists and turns of the plot along the way. Overall this was a 5/5 read for me.

look…

This books plot was great, I loved it. But god… the punctuation killed me. So many thoughts or people speaking not in “” so it took me a minute to figure out if it was said out loud or just thought in their head.
Or switching who’s talking without details so conversations between characters can get muddy. There is no “he said” or “she said” it just gets thrown out there and you have to go off context clues lol

It made it more difficult for me to get into. I will probably try to read the second book, but idk if I’ll finish it.

What did I just read……. First of all, the punctuation of this book *_* Second, I feel like I was reading the same thing again and again all along. She hates him, he pushes her against a wall, they kiss and she hates him all over again. WE GET IT. Also the plot????? I expected NOTHING but this, in a BAD way.

DNF ~20 pages in. This was worse than a high school freshman’s first draft of a creative writing assignment. Run on sentences, grammatical errors, confusing dialogue, etc. Home girl needs to invest in an editor because this actually hurt to read.

I just couldn’t finisht. Stoped at 60%. A lot of grammar errors and English is not even my first language. I feel like nothing really happened in like at least 30% of the book, always the same sh*t. I’m curious to find out what happens at the end but just cannot go on reading.

PLEASE send this back for editing and then republish! This whole storyline is an easy 5 stars with the right revisions! The potential is incredible but the errors in grammar, word misuse, etc. make it so hard to get into! That aside, this was SO good. I loved the history and enemies to lovers between the FMM and MMC. I love that she struggled with her feelings for Hector and Cas and you could FEEL her dilemma and the battle between what felt safe and easy and what was passionate and unsettling. Some final twists were predictable but lend well to the story.

Spoiler rant:
I hate that she found Cassian in bed with another woman and then accepts his proposal in the same interaction??? Im aware she convinced herself she was making a deal with him with no feelings involved, but it so cheapens Cassian’s epilogue. He was supposed to be enamored with her and only her based on what we find out about his kind in the end. Hated it when it happened and hated it more when all was revealed and the book ended.

I won’t finish it.
I saw a TikTok from the author and was convicted it could be a good read but I just can’t go on with it…
It was difficult to read it and as several mentioned there were errors… I am not a pro in English but could definitely see the mistakes even if it isn’t my first language.
I am in the middle and we get glimpse of different plots but only bit by bit and it’s going nowhere.
There are so many subject and we get lost in the story:
Her and her night escapades
The arrival of the princes
Her tension with Cassia
The Protestants
Her father and his plots
And I read in a comment that there will be supernatural creatures at the end. It is just too much and not well handled….

It was so bad.

The only power that I had to finish this was that I already read 50% of this book and no smut scene had appear and I wanted to know.

But it was soo baad. I was looking for a easy and fun read but this was none of that.

It's poorly written and edited it, it had so many grammatical errors that were difficult to pass by, also the main character is lame. Carina is probably one of the most unsufferable MC i have ever know, the amount of times she said she was badass, hated Cassian, bla bla bla, girl put yourself together.

Cassian was not that bad but he had 0 reasons to be in love of her besides the bonding. Bonding which makes no sense. Why Zayn abdicated? I though at first Cass make him do it to be with Carina, but they never explain that (I didn't put that much attention to the second halve of the book tho lol)

If she was betrothed to the crown prince shouldn't be Zayn the one he has the bond? so weird. He had 0 reason to exist then.

It was a very annoying romantasy, and the fact that they are kind of cousins, hum... weird? by the end I felt the author just throwed a bunch of magical stuff and destroyed the little relationship they had. She entered vampires, faes, weird magical creatures all at once lol.

I did actually like this book but is it possible to get a storyline in romance fantasy that’s not about a long lost kingdom where the girl has been hidden or has unknown powers who’s going to save everyone and has a destined mate??? Like please let’s come up with a new plot line it’s getting kind of ridiculous at this point. Besides it having no originality there, I did enjoy the pacing and dialogue and the characters mostly.

Things I didn’t like:
-carina was so erratic with her feelings it was hard to follow. I get its enemies to lovers but even within a span of 5 min she flip flops. Before they’re about to do their blood vow they have a moment together and she goes through a whole inner monologue how much she likes cassian and after he says she’ll be free when they finally go through it — this sends her into a spiral. What?? She had already worked toward the conclusion that she was happy but all of a sudden she’s not again. It doesn’t follow logic. Same with the end and her decision (no spoilers)

-if cassian was so obsessed and made a bow to carina (unbeknownst to us) him getting together with a random person really does not go with his character and that whole scene just felt out of place in terms of how they both typically behaved with each other

-no explanation or understanding of what exactly she’s supposed to save or do. I really dislike when the world building is so vague and weak. Makes me doubtful the story is well thought out

Things I liked:
-edlyn and her relationship seemed genuine and I found myself laughing like a friend would with some of her commentary

-cassian, he is written well. You can feel his care for carina. The hair brushing 😭. His comments about her mom. I feel there is depth to his character for sure

“I know it´s scary. Living with limited memory of a person you feel obligated to know. Memories might fade but the feeling you connect to that person never does, Carina.”

I will continue reading because I think there’s a lot of potential. I’ve never read from this writer. But please some original plot points 😂

I honestly don’t get why this book is rated so low. Like, did we even read the same thing? I seriously enjoyed it. First off, the banter. Oh my God, the banter! It’s been so long since I’ve enjoyed back-and-forth this much—I just want to bottle it up and sprinkle it on every book I read. Truly, a masterpiece of sarcasm and sass.

Storywise? Okay, fine, it wasn’t groundbreaking, but who cares when it’s this fun? The idea that she’s arranged to marry her childhood nemesis from another kingdom—and that her dad’s only condition is she has to be engaged to a prince before her 18th birthday—is so dramatic, I love it. But instead of sticking to one guy, she’s like, “Why not invite all the princes and choose my favorite?” Iconic behavior. Honestly, if being indecisive were an Olympic sport, she’d take the gold. And can we talk about the arranged marriage trope? It screams forced proximity, which is my bread and butter. If you don’t like it, I don’t know what to tell you—get better taste?

Now, let’s discuss Cassian. My book boyfriend of the month. Are you seriously gonna hate on my man? Come at me. I will defend him with my life. He’s an entire genre by himself—a tall, broody, morally gray buffet of perfection. And his filthy mouth? Oh, honey. I’d listen to him read the phone book if it came with his… colorful commentary. Honestly, I get it, Carina. Who wouldn’t cave? He’s basically the literary version of a triple-chocolate cake: bad for you but impossible to resist.

And that ending? The plot twist wasn’t life-shattering, but it’ll definitely have you reaching for book two faster than a kid grabbing candy on Halloween. It’s the kind of twist that makes you smirk and think, “Oh, you clever little book, you.”

Anyway, I’ll wrap this up because Christmas shenanigans are calling, and I’m pretty sure I still have presents to wrap (or panic-buy). Merry Christmas, folks! 🎄

This book started off strong but the amount of writing errors was so bad it kept taking me out of the story. I usually don’t mind books not being well written-more so how they made me feel. (Trust me I’m not picky I grew up on Wattpad 😅). I just genuinely couldn’t even tell what was going on sometimes because of the wrong words being used or just straight up sentence structure. Other than that, the main character became insufferable. We get it he was mean to you. I love enemies to lovers but a lot of the complaints against the MMC just seemed very superficial, and he really wasn’t even given a chance by the FMC. Any chance he got at trying to get in her good graces would be immediately shot down and it just got super repetitive. Also I think the FMC was very unlikable. If the MMC did any of the stuff she did it would be abusive but she’s a girl so she gets a “pass”. She repeatedly hits him unprovoked, even after he tells her multiple times he doesn’t like it. I was interested in the beginning then just completely bored in the middle by so much filler I was so confused on where the story was going. I forced myself to finish and the ending just felt like it came out of nowhere. There was a little bit of a word vomit in the beginning of the book about the history of the kingdom but that was never really a major part of the book or mentioned throughout it, that at the end it was like “hey remember that throwaway lore we gave you in the beginning ? Yeah it’s suddenly a thing again”. The only character I liked was Hector really and he’s in like two scenes max. I really wanted to like it but I think the author would be better off re-doing the whole book and getting an editor. It has potential it just needs some work.

Plot ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Tropes : Enemies to lovers, forced marriage

Looking for a gem on Kindle Unlimited that isn't just steamy romance with a side of plot can be like searching for a needle in a haystack. But, lo and behold, Mia Thorne's "The Fallen Kingdom" pleasantly surprised me with its gripping storyline and world-building.

Sure, being an indie author, Thorne's narrative might feel a tad choppy at times, but once you dive into the first few chapters, you'll find yourself fully immersed. What hooked me was the enemies-to-lovers trope, although I wished there was more backstory to Carina and Cassian's simmering tension.

Speaking of Carina, her alter ego as the Red Saint added a cool vigilante twist, but I wished Thorne delved deeper into her origins and missions. It felt like a missed opportunity to explore Carina's badassery beyond one outing.

And let's talk about character development—how did Carina become such a skilled fighter? Who trained her? These questions lingered throughout.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed the forced marriage subplot and the brooding allure of Prince Cassian. The constant appearance of Cassian during Carina's perilous escapades had me scratching my head until the end, where everything clicked into place.
The plot twists toward the finale caught me off guard—in a good way. And while Carina's incessant attempts to push Cassian away got on my nerves, I'm low-key excited for the angst fest awaiting in book two.

Overall, "The Fallen Kingdom" is a solid Kindle Unlimited find. It's got intrigue, romance, banter, and just the right amount of spice. Definitely worth a read!

I came across this new writer promoting her book on TikTok, and it had all my favorite tropes. However, some of the comments were quite negative. Despite that, I decided to give it a chance because I prefer forming my own opinions, and as a mood reader, I happened to be in the mood for a story like this.

Honestly, I liked it. I enjoyed the slow-burn romance between the main characters and had a great time reading it. I’m eagerly anticipating reading the second book because I have so many questions that need answers and backstories I want to uncover!

That being said, I agree with many of the comments about the grammar, formatting, and significant lack of punctuation. At times, it was difficult to push through. I often found myself mentally correcting the text as I read or rewriting my version of the banter. While some parts were well-written, others felt as though they had been translated into English using Google Translate and never revised for clarity. I could grasp what the author was aiming for, but the inconsistency made it a bit jarring.

All in all, I don’t regret diving into her world. If she addresses the grammar issues, I’d be open to reading more of her work.

Can't finish it. Upon reading some reviews I can tell the ending is going in a direction that I do not like, and I'm going to end up kicking myself for wasting my time on it. The ONLY reason I was trying to is because I spent money on it. Like, why did I do that. I really need an apology from the author. She clearly didn't spend a dime on an editor or even consider re-reading it herself. Why charge me to read this? Outrageous.

The grammatical errors are never ending and impossible to overlook.

The MC is insufferable. The author tried way too hard to make this plot an enemies-to-lovers. She talks about wanting to slit his throat one minute and the next she's all up on him. Katarina is a 13-year-old child in terms of maturity, but is somehow a BA assassin? Yeah no.

I admittedly liked Cassian, but I almost disliked him because he was in love with the MC. LOL. That's not what you want.

Can only speak on the first 60% of the book because that's as far as I could make it. But the reviews tell me I'm not doing myself any favors to see it through.

I need my money back please, Mia Thorne. 🙃

There are some characters sometimes that are egotistical @holes but you like them anyway, well Cassian's not one of them. I seriously couldn't stand him, freaking arrogant b@st4rd, all his remarks of him marrying Katarina as if there was no other option just sounded as if he already possessed her like an object, but I definitely disliked Katarina more because of how easy she left herself be swayed just by his looks, there was not one good quality that he showed that could justify her sudden attraction to him. What good is it to be a so called bad@$s assassin if you blush like a teenager at just good looks?
Their interactions made me mad and Katarina's so called retorts for all the arrogant things Cassian said seemed like too little to late because her brain was making shortcut at the sight of him 🙄

I really enjoyed reading this book. It had a lot of cute/exciting scenes that made me smile and kick my feet. The two main characters had perfect tension built up between each other and reading a badass FMC was refreshing. I thought that Katarina and Cassian were truly meant to be together and the author did a good job at making the reader feel this way. I’m not going to lie, but there was a lot of moments where I was just genuinely confused what was going on, I think it was a result of how overly descriptive the book is. I also think there should have been more spicy scenes between the two main characters, seeing as they had so much tension built through the book but idk thats just the freak in me. There was also a lot of like grammar erros/ typos?? I’m not sure how that made it past publishing.

Ahhhhh.... thrash, not trash. Thrust, not trust. I can understand grammatical mistakes here and there but repeated over and over and over and.... over. No. The plot could have been better if it was paid attention to and kept on the right track. The storyline itself had something to it but the grammar, scattered thoughts, the rabbit holes to nowhere just made everything seem chaotic and not well laid out. I did end up reading the second book hoping for some improvement, nope. It was the same thing repeated, unnecessarily. No world building, the spice was horrible - probably because they were "trusting" into people and not thrusting. Sentence structure was awful, spelling, punctuation - I can't even determine which was worse. Editing goes a long way.
