Focusing on an extremely challenging and sensitive area of care "The Dying Process" examines the experiences of dying patients. Based on extensive fieldwork conducted in a day care service for patients with incurable diseases and an inpatient hospice where the patients are approaching death, the book considers the most vivid yet painful time for the human body, the decline towards death.
Interesting book. Quite academic yet still readable. About the realities of hospice care and adult day care. Real-life accounts from the researcher's experience, who does not shy away from talking about the unpleasantness involved in the process of dying. "...an invaluable text for professionals, students and others who wish to enhance their understanding of hospice and palliative care." (This book was highly recommended by a woman I met in England who is an instructor on the subject of death and dying.)
everyone should read this book. Although dense in parts, it generally understandable if you have an interest in the field, or have experienced the death of a loved one. Well written and sentitive about some really emotive issues. If you find the theory too much, dip into a few chapters and it will make sense. You will relate to it, if you have had experience of losing someone. It is very helpful in making sense of something too often ignored and hidden away.
