I first visited Sikkim (a state in the North East of India) in 2008, and I remember instantly falling in love with the state. I cannot wait to go there again, please call me again mountains.. 🏔️

A brief background, the Lepchas are an ethnic group, meaning Children of God, and at present inhabit the state of Sikkim and Darjeeling in West Bengal in India and some regions of Nepal and Bhutan.

This was a delightful little collection of the legends and folklore the Lepchas believe in. The stories are beautiful and mention a world when everyone (animals, man and God) is dependent on each other and life has a beautiful balance. The beautiful illustrations inside each story by Pankaj Thapa made reading the book an even beautiful experience. I love reading about different cultures and since this was completely new to me, I devoured it. The stories are engaging and enjoyable.

Overall this is a beautiful book to start exploring about Sikkim and her beautiful culture.

Highly recommended.

In my attempt to search and read folk tales and stories about locals on the Himalayas, I stumbled upon this book in a bookshop at Darjeeling and picked it up instantly. To put it simply, it's a marvelous insight into the culture and heritage of Sikkim and the Lepchas. I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys reading about various lands and their cultures.
