Trotman is also the creator of the webcomics Lucas and Odessa, Sparkneedle, and Blikada, as well as the somewhat less serious Playing With Dolls. She lives in Chicago with her husband.
These sexy erotic comics continue to hit the spot. They are queer and trans-inclusive. They feature the widest range of body types in any erotic comics I've ever read, and this one features monsters as well! The anthology mixes tones, styles, and genres, but most stories have some fun elements, and all are arranged to follow nicely into each other.
My favorites were:
An Offer for the Maiden by Vesta Z. — I loved how this looked at masculinity from the perspective of a trans man who wants a relationship with a goddess who is known to sacrifice men. He woos her. Both the man and the goddess are plus-sized, and the man is hairy and has breasts, a representation that I appreciate.
Girl Fiend by Innkeeperworm — This story hits one of my favorite tropes: the monster tempts the "innocent" human and then they have a great time. The monster and tone are the perfect amount of scary, while this story acknowledges that this isn't a monster who's just been misunderstood. The art here was fabulous, and I loved the monster's goat-wolf form and how that translated into her human shape, too. Some of my favorite art.
For Your Eyes Only by Nero Villagallos O'Reilly - Yes, for monsters that aren't all cutesy. This one is a little in the face, but the rest of her body is just weird. The human woman's perspective as a scientist and living in isolation is unique to this collection. Plus, I'm always down for fisting.
Bisclavret by Rowan Woodcock — Not all monster stories end in a HEA.
In Every Corner by Visceraaa — Another not all monster girlfriends are conventionally attractive, and some are your sleep paralysis demon. I loved how this played with the human wearing her sleeping mask during sex, but the ultimate connection moment came when she removed it momentarily, and then they continued.
MonstHER Under the Bed by Bont and Wes Brooke — This is a sweet little polycule that's playing a fun sex game. All the characters are cute: a human-like goat, a kangaroo, and a slimy tentacle monster. What everyone's polycule is made of.
Neighborly Help by Harriet Moulton — A vampire needs blood, and it's good that her neighbor, a siren, is ready to help. I loved this imagining of the siren in her green sea monster form, another monster being a monster.
Forest Wedding by Otava Heikkilä —I loved the size difference between the forest goddess and the human trans man in this politically arranged marriage. Trans guys can be short, but this forest goddess is oversized in every way, including her personality and her expectations of him. Plus, yes to more fisting.
i backed this on kickstarter ages ago so by the time it came in i had kinda forgotten the exact reasons behind that purchase (outside of the general idea of monster women erotica!). turns out some of my fave porn artists had comics in this so of course I wanted it.
there's quite a few comics that really go there with the monster premise while others stick to "basically human woman but with a unique skin tone". i really appreciated any that put creativity into alternative genitalia or extra limbs/mouths/etc. you would think that would mean the first comic would be a hit for me but unfortunately the corny, outdated internet humor really pulled me out of it :( cool concept, not as cool execution.
faves were "an offer for the maiden" (vesta has been a fave artist for many years at this point), "in every corner" (another artist that i've long admired their monster designs), "neighborly help" (i love fish/ocean-inspired monsters!) and "forest wedding" (another artist that I've wanted to get comics from for a while but hadn't pulled the trigger until this collection!).
the stories that were misses were huge misses for me, but that's kinda the nature of erotica. having the visual component adds even more, as there were quite a few art styles in here that didn't jive with my senses at all. still, it's worth checking out if this kinda thing is your jam! you'll almost certainly find a new artist to enjoy if you aren't super familiar with people who already make comics in this niche arena.
This collection of very sexy erotic stories is not for everyone. Even within this volume there are a few that I sort of shook my head at. On the other hand, the good ones I did enjoy.
For example there is a story of a woman dating an angle. One of the old bible type angles all wings and not much else. There are also stories of people dating vengeful ghosts, wolves, and flowers that consume you.
It is a very mixed bag. There are lesbian stories, straight stories, trans stories, and some that I was not quite clear who was what, and did it really matter.
Smut Peddler has been doing these volumes for a while. There was also “My Monster Boyfriend” as well as the original Smut Peddlers that were more general erotica.
If you love your erotic in sequential art form, then this might be something to consider. However, if you only like reading vanilla stories, this might not appeal to you.
Thanks to Edelweis for making this book available for an honest review. This book comes out on the 14th of November 2023
Book Review Title: Smut Peddler Presents: My Monster Girlfriend by Andrea Purcell Genre: Erotic, Horror, Anthology, Graphic Novel Rating: 4.25 Stars My Monster Girlfriend is labelled as an erotic horror anthology but I think it is more erotic paranormal. The first story is Feather by Kanesha C. Bryant which follows a trans main character, Orlando through an encounter with their partner, Feather who is a biblical accurate angel. Due to the difference in species they have been having trouble in the bedroom and are giving it another attempts and this one works out wonderfully for the pair. I will admit the Tardis comment made me cackle and I could literally hear the Doctor Who theme song in the background. An Offer for the Maiden by Vesta Z was so wholesome as it follows another trans main character, Giovanni as they are visting by the manifested spirit of the Maiden. The Maiden comes to every new man in the town and takes a offering or kills them but Giovanni has been delaying the Maiden for a while because they have feelings for her which come out as well as presenting their offering which is accepted. Next is Trash Mob Romance -by AnderJak, was the most adorable story I think I’ve ever read which is saying something as it follows to more monstrous characters who have no idea about the more carnal aspects of a relationship and end up gaining help from another couple in the most hilarious manner. Rogue-Like by Owlin is a short and smutty story following a goblin, Balst and a human, Baravos during a DnD like campaign which ends with them getting together, pretty simple but definitely enjoyable. The next story was Sweetest Nectar by mopinks, which was a strange story about a girl looking for a magical flower which turns out to be sentient and entices the girl to become one of her keepers in a strange yet delightful way. I really like the art style of this story as well with the almost neon colouring that was a very bold choice. Girl Fiend by Innkeeperworm was a great story with potential, it follow a maid, Harriet who is taking care of a hellhound bound to the manor she works in as no one else will do it. Harriet has learnt that Addison is quite pleasant to be around and it has been causing rumours and when the other maids leave an unpleasant surprise in Harriet’s bed she ends up spending the night in the basement with Addison which leads the other things. Seeing both of Addison’s forms was nice and the small touch of Harriet breaking the binding circle at the end was amazing. For Your Eyes Only by Nero Villagallos O'Reilly was interesting to say the least. We are following Doctor Marie Zhou as she is on assignment on a moon, it isn’t clear which moon it is though. During her time there she has freed a being called Ren from kryosleep and they have been living together in secret for a while planning to escape together. The day before they are due to escape someone unexpectedly drops by but Ren hides will Marie deals with the person and the next day they make their escape. This is the first couple we’ve seen where the non-human partner is more beast than human and I didn’t know how to feel about it since there isn’t really anything about Ren that resembles a human unlike other characters like Addison. The next story is Flesh Hive by Iris Jay was a mind-breaking yet surprisingly wholesome story about a found family and coven that has had a member missing for a while but she returns to find the world completely changed and fears they won’t take her back. To her surprise they welcomed her with open arms as they had been waiting for her to come back and complete the coven again. Bisclavret by Rowan Woodcock was a great take on the werewolf genre as we see a nobleman named Gwenn free a wolf from a trap only to find out that it is a female werewolf named Enora. Gwenn is smitten with Enora in both her wolf and more human form although she stays pretty close to the animal side and eventually they end up in bed together. I really liked their dynamic of submissive male with a more dominant female but this also touched more to the horror side than any of the previous stories and it just might be my favourite of the collection. In Every Corner by Visceraaa was a lovely story about a woman with a sleep paralysis demon who genuinely believes her to be asleep and watches movies and podcasts to learn about human things in that time. When the demon realises the human is awake they become friends and eventually lovers. Puzzling Evidence by Penelope Merch is another DnD type story between a human and an imp dragon. It was short and to the point but I felt there was too much unnecessary dialogue in it that could have been communicated better. MonstHER Under the Bed by Bont and Wes Brooke was short and sweet but cute at the same time. It is essentially a throuple roleplaying about a monster under the bed and it was nice to see the check in and aftercare at the end. Nyx by Taylor Titmouse was a delightful menage a trios with roots in Greek mythology as it features Nyx, the goddess of night, Boreas, the north wind and Zephyrus, the west wind and it really made me smile especially the ending. Neighbourly Help by Harriet Moulton is the story of Val, a vampire and Cherry, a siren who are neighbours and help each other when they are in need in more than one way. I really liked how the artist kept the siren’s unique anatomy rather than making it more traditional as it really added to the story. The final story in the collection is Forest Wedding by Otava Heikkilä which is a wedding between the human clan and the mountain folk but the wife won’t allow her husband to consummate the wedding until he proves himself to her and he goes above and beyond to do so. Overall, I really liked this collection apart from one or two stories which I didn’t enjoy but I will definitely be checking out more especially My Monster Boyfriend in the future.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
It's becoming a habit of me accidentally reading a graphic novel without actually knowing what it's about beforehand. Which meant I really had no clue this was a collection of (mostly) sapphic erotica. I can't complain though, it was a great collection with a lot of wonderful art — and obviously sexy and/or adorable stories! it was also a pretty diverse collection of stories featuring a wide variety of women (and monster girlfriends) representing different races, bodies and gender types. It's always refreshing when, even in a collection about monster girlfriends, you can feel represented.
Overall, I enjoyed most of the stories in this collection but there were a few I didn't like the art of, nor the story. But the rest of the collection easily made up for those few stories!
I cannot gush enough about what an HONOR it is to get my laptop on an advance reader's copy through Edelweiss. This is possibly my most anticipated book of the year-- if I had it my way Smut Peddler entries would release every three months-- and especially given that my critique of My Monster Boyfriend was essentially solely that it ought to have included women, this has been a long-awaited entry on my personal book wishlist.
My one complaint here is that, despite incredible and uncritiquable designs in every individual story, I did happen to notice that every single one utilizes humanoid breasts and/or pussies. I'm not opposed to that AT ALL on an individual scale, and it is my personal preference, but when Sex Machine & My Monster Boyfriend both managed to provide the number of nonhumanoid figures they did, it feels as though it accidentally plays into the "male characters are neutral; female characters have tits" stereotype. Again, definitely not something any individual artist did wrong, just a thought overall.
With that said, the diversity otherwise was incredible. Trans people, fat people, people of color, older and younger people, etc.-- and I have to give one more shout out to the really wonderful breadth of design on the different monster girlfriends; I absolutely think there's something for everyone. Not just that, but there's a diversity to the style of plot (PWP through literary sci-fi!) and the relationships between the characters involved, not to mention different approaches to pairings v. throuples v. larger polycules & a GREAT showing for different sex positions and approaches to sex, including stone trans people! Plus: not just human/monstergf but monster/monstergf, furry/monstergf, etc.!
The best way to illustrate that is by discussing ALL the stories, so without further ado, here we go. Stars indicate favorites, though I think I'll need a reread to be absolutely sure.
⭐ FEATHER (Kanesha C. Bryant)
Orlando goes on a hunt for their biblically-accurate-angel-style girlfriend's pussy... somewhere inside her. Great design on both characters, clever use of the form (there's one page in particular which is just incredible; M. C. Escher found dead in Los Angeles) and great balance on in/human sexual elements.
AN OFFER FOR THE MAIDEN (Vesta Z.)
Any story with a fat hairy trans man = bliss. A more humanoid design for a Giant Scary Lady who turns out to have a big soft heart inside <3 The art is SO good on this one; the detail in every single arm hair was amazing. And this is absolutely what tits look like post-T and nobody talks about it or draws it correctly so THANK YOU VESTA Z.
⭐ TRASH MOB ROMANCE (Anderjak)
REALLY unique and clever, with something for everyone-- furries, voyeurs, people into weird sexual experimentation, strap-lovers, etc. Two non-human creatures are in love, but does love = fucking? And what IS this mysterious fucking, anyway? The hijinks are silly and very sexy, and I admit I like it a lot just for the warmth of the story. Very nontraditional in that our delightful monsters realize they just want to kiss and cuddle and NOT have sex, and the amount of sex in the story itself is enough that this resolution is in no way disappointing... in a porn anthology. Hats off.
ROGUE-LIKE (Owlin)
I will go ahead and say that this one is for those who are into more cartoony styles, which I definitely am not, so I'm excited to see more reviews. Really cute story about two MMORPG-style adventurers who hook up, and that's all there is to it. Short and sweet.
SWEETEST NECTAR (Mopkins)
Inventive! Some transformation kink stuff with really lovely character design for both the monstress and all variations on her girlfriend(s). Also a short, simple story.
GIRL FIEND (Inkeeper Worm)
Another art style I instantly clicked with. I love the light reference to the way we change our presentations and appearances for our lovers vs. the public; it made the different forms of the monster really work for me (even though I know not everyone shares my preference for more humanoid monstergirls).
FOR YOUR EYES ONLY (Nero Villagallos O'Reilly)
Really interesting; much more plot than usual and put to good use. The least humanoid monstergirl so far, though she did sprout boobs and a pussy for The Act. I wish I had the physical copy on hand already so I could really inspect the art!
FLESH HIVE (Iris Jay & color consultant work by Nero Villagallos O'Reilly)
HORRORPORN!! YESSSS!! Again, I'm not one for the more cartoony stylization, but that didn't stop this from really compelling me all the way through; great balance of sexy and scary. Plus: our first trans woman! (That I noticed; I devoured this book.)
BLISCARVET (Rowan Woodcock)
Instantly recognized this style! So lovely and dynamic and smooth. And sexy evil hairy werewolf lady YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.... And bonus great use of (narrative) tension!! Delicious dramatic irony there at the start.
⭐ IN EVERY CORNER (Visceraaa)
REALLY good answer to the prompt. One of the most horrifying designs and some of the best art in the whole thing, not to mention the dialogue-- is it even Smut Peddler without at least a little clueless monster dialogue that makes me laugh?
PUZZLING EVIDENCE (Penelope Merch)
Very cute approach: another MMORPG-style story, and this monster girl is small, not big! Also have to love a mute androgynous guy as her partner.
MONSTHER UNDER THE BED (Bont & inks By Wes Brooke)
....and with that, we have our tentacles! Furry girlfriends x tentacle monster under the bed have a wonderful time together. Also the first story to feature a flat-chested female character, even if she is technically just wearing a hoodie (bonus rep for women who don't want their chests touched!). And ALSO girldick!
⭐ NYX (Taylor Titmouse)
Gods! Giant women! Femdom! Opposites-attract! This kind of has everything wonderful in it. The art is beautiful, the story is as simple as can be, and the panelwork is both artistic and very effective. Super-sweet.
⭐ NEIGHBOURLY HELP (Harriet Moulton)
HARRIET FUCKING MOULTON. I was the most excited for this one by far and boy did it pay off. I don't even know how to explain the appeal because Moulton just gets it. The butch/femme energy is flawless in every element of both (all three?) designs, the sexual tension is off the charts, the delightful awkwardness when things get Real... I'm just so happy she contributed to this one, too, because her skills are well used!! Plus, and I cannot stress this enough:
⭐ FOREST WEDDING (Otava Heikkilä)
A good plot, a good wait 'til the main event, and a really incredible showing for porn that isn't just Dude Put Dick In Girl (in part because there is fisting! and stone/transness!) And, of course, shoutout to Giant Woman: The Rematch; some of the best work in here seems to play with the size possibilities of monstergirls.
Having finished the entire collection, I'm sorry to report that, for my extremely picky ass, there wasn't anything that 100% perfectly with no issue hit the spot. This is not remotely the fault of anybody on board with the collection, and it doesn't impact my decision to buy the book or (as you can see) rate it full marks. I just think I have very specific desires and interests from a monster girlfriend prompt-- pretty much just big tiddy vampire gf-- and while everything was a great answer to the prompt and a lot of things were personal interests, nothing was exactly my ideal 100% perfect answer, and that's OK. Only time will tell what I personally return to reread, and until then, I recommend this one as strongly as every other Smut Peddler offering.
Adult comic compilation, and I mean adult, where you learn where to lick a goddess if someone else gets their fingers in on the action, and get to witness multiple examples of cunnilingus, all-holes nookie and more. It's all actually quite decent stuff, I guess, not that my level of exposure to this kind of thing makes me an expert. The visuals at times don't worry too much about letting you know what's going where – certainly nobody worried too much about making a high-brow kind of effort, although the story I mentioned first is pretty impressive at times. It all featured a surprisingly low level of pronoun-wrangling bollux, and nothing stands out as poor, and nothing outstays its welcome, so by those criteria it's definitely a success.
Highlights: -Visceraaa's In Every Corner -- surprisingly cute with its night terror love interest using internet speak, while still looking like a horror monster should -AnderJak's Trashmob Romance -- surprisingly adorable story of two monsters falling in love and trying to figure out wtf is sex -Innkeeperworm's Girl Fiend -- hello fluffy girlfriend! also if you are squeamish, googling the artist's name is uh, literal -Rowan Woodcock's Bisclavet -- omfg the art style? adore
Also, quite a few stories with fat bodies and fisting. 👍👍
This book was just a super fun read. I bought it spontaneously at a romance bookstore in my city because it was out on display and I'm glad I did! I was originally intending to go through and read them one at a time but I was having such a blast that I pretty much read the whole book in one sitting.
The collection is decidedly erotica, but it also ran the full gamit of what that means. I especially liked the stories that explored the logistics of having sex with various configurations of monstrous/fantastical genitalia- and sometimes it didn't work, and the romances were still intact! Some of these scratched an itch I didn't know I had, some of them were definitely Not For Me, and most were somewhere in between, and I thoroughly enjoyed all of them.
The physical book itself is also just beautifully designed and feels like a great value for the cost. The paper is very glossy and feels nice to hold in your hands and flip through, and I loved how bright the printed paged were. I liked how the table of contents was laid out with a sample of the art to help you remember which is which. Great book to own!
A weird collection of stories about monster girlfriends but an interesting read. Some of the short stories were a little more flushed out than others, I like a little story before we jump right into the smut but some people don't and will appreciate those stories more than I did. Some of the illustrations were a little hard on the eyes as there were too many competing colors, I definitely would not recommend this graphic novel to someone who is color blind.
I thought these were all interesting stories in their own rights, from the storyline to the artwork. Some of the stories are silly and jump straight to the smut (Puzzling Evidence), while others are sweet and scintillating (MonstHer Under the Bed, Trashmob Romance). The cast of characters were definitely diverse! If monster smut is your thing, you'll definitely like My Monster Girlfriend!
Like any anthology, there's hits and misses, but more of the former than the latter. Some are genuinely hot and/or sweet, and some take the monster assignment so seriously that they reach some new realm of horny where I don't necessarily find it erotic but deeply appreciate it
A little too out there for me but no judgments. Some things weren't even remotely humanoid. It does include most sexual persuasions but is sapphic overall. The art is solid as well.
My favorite story was Trash Mob Romance. I'd read an entire book about those four characters. Which I think is ironic considering it's the tamest in this collection.
Another juicy Smut Peddler presentation from the greatness that is Iron Circus Comics. It was great to see the different styles and visions of the artists within this collection.
