Karen E. Taylor was born and raised in the Pittsburgh suburbs. A graduate of Churchill area High School and later of Grove City College, her first love was the theater, but now she admits that writing is better; "You get to write all the lines and play all the parts." She currently resides outside of Los Angeles, CA with her husband and pets.

My Thoughts

Blood Ties sets the stage with newlyweds Mitch Greer and Deirdre Griffin’s deepening love for each other, past mistakes that threaten the life they are building together and a killer who has Deirdre in his sights and will stop at nothing to see her truly dead unless he can be caught and disposed of first.

Told entirely from Deirdre’s POV this is a chilling look at the world of vampires and their ironclad rules that leave no room for error.

In Blood of My Blood we are thrown off tangent when introduced to Lily, she is the main POV narrator which is a switch that was unexpected. Her story becomes blended with that of Deirdre in an unexpected way that plays out to a somewhat shaky ending that does not quite seem complete but rather untidy to me.

Intriguing, the first half is more to my taste than the second half but it worked out blending the two together in one book.

In Blood Ties, Deirdre is a vampire who does not always like what she is, but is able to satisfy the hunger within her. She has changed the love of her life into a vampire as well, and Mitch has taken to being a vampire with a level of enthusiasm that Deirdre does not always share. When another of her blood relatives begins to cause some problems it is left to Deirdre to answer for him, as she was his creator. This proves to be harder than it should be because Larry is unpredictable and a little off. When he escapes his holding cell and then vampires are beginning to be hunted, Deirdre does not feel safe. Can Deirdre and Mitch find Larry before it is too late?

In the second book Blood of My Blood Deirdre is again hunted but this time by a daughter that she didn't know existed. Lily is out to get revenge on her mom for leaving her to die alone, and she will stop at nothing to find her. Deirdre does not have a clue that this girl is looking for her and has no idea what is coming for her. When she realizes what is going on she does not know what to do and ends up fighting for her life and Lily’s.

Both of these stories were full of mystery and action. You kind of have a hint in the first one who the suspect is, but you have no idea how that suspect is managing what they are doing. I liked how they showed the vampires as the ones being hunted instead of focusing on the human vampire connection. Both stories were great reads, that had side plots that you had to follow to get the whole picture. All in all a great combination of stories.

Crave, by Karen E. Taylor, is a minute by minute adventure which holds the reader’s attention until the very end. YOU CANNOT predict next move of the characters—there is always a “twist”. The narrator (Dierdre) keeps the reader engaged, offering just enough information to whet the appetite. With a “colorful” cast of characters—the fine, handsome, ex-cop Mitch, the arrogant, commanding Victor, and all of the members of the secret Vampire society--the Cadre, you will NOT want to put this book down. Even I, a self-proclaimed, anti-Vampire prude, was so mesmerized by the story line and character development that I continued to come back for MORE! There were a few places where I was jolted and maybe a bit disappointed by the outcome like Dierdre’s and Mitch’s intermisting/fusing and the interaction between Dr. Sam and Dierdre… but perhaps that is because I am a bit of a cynic and “anti-love” prude (LOL).
Overall, I would highly recommend this book to Vampire/Romance fanatics and prudes alike. Even if you do not buy into the whole Vampire Underworld theme, you have to admit, with Ms. Taylor’s use of transitioning, allusion, and flashbacks, this makes for a very compelling and riveting story.

The first half of this book was terrific. I would even say it was near 5 stars for me. Then, the second of the book happened and I wanted to quit reading. I understand the viewpoint the author was pushing for, but when the first part of the story is centered on the main character it is hard to switch to other points of view.

it was pretty good. Lily's character was a nice surprise, but i was hoping for a more action packed ending. It was kind of a disappointment. I can understand lily's actions, but it made me dislike like her. It makes me wonder what's next for deirdre and mitch.
