Scientific collaborator, and since 1979 head of the folklore sector of the language and literature. of the SS of the MSSR. Doctor of Philosophy. (1965). He gained his popularity due to his masterful literary processing of folk narratives. The stories collected by B. were translated into Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Georgian, Lithuanian, Bulgarian, German, French, English, Japanese. In the scientific field, he made important documentary and analytical contributions to the capitalization of the folk heritage. He is one of the authors of "Moldovan Folklore Sketches" (1965), you collect. "Moldovan Folk Poetry" (ed. 1-3, 1957-65), "Battle Songs and Victory" (1963), "Moldovan Folklore: Chrestomathy" (1965). As a field researcher he discovered many performers, especially popular storytellers. His monograph "Outlaw Folklore in Moldova" (1967) offers an overview of the outlaw epic, lyric and drama, revealing their historical typology and poetic peculiarities.
