Wow wow wow. What an amazing debut novel! So many twists and turns i didn't see coming. The characters were all well written. Writing about mental health is so difficult but this author does it well also including a set of trigger warnings because the book even begins!
This is Chanelle’s debut novel and my god, it’s a freaking great one. I have so many words and yet not enough.
Fortunately, I was lucky enough to read this baby before it’s release date and no matter how many times I read it, it still evokes the same feelings. Every. Damn. Time!
This book is so relatable that when I was reading it, I was completely invested. Every event that happened: I was there. Every emotion felt: I felt too.
For those who haven’t read this yet, the story is a college romance and is told from Evie’s point of view. Evie is a great main character who tries to juggle college, relationships and her own mental health- which for her, along with many, is a struggle.
Then Theo is thrown into the mix and although he’s mysterious and mostly in the wings for a lot of the book, he is it for me. He’s bloody beautiful in every way and the connection he builds with Evie is truly wonderful.
Chanelle brings to light a range of topics that in the past have been ignored or hidden, and she has done this in a beautifully crafted way that’s easy to read and understand. But please check the trigger warnings before reading.
Overall, I really loved this book, however the ending crushed me. Simple as that. It was done extremely well, but WHAT! ARGH!! I’m obviously still not over it, nor do I think I ever will be…
What a fantastic debut novel! I went through every single emotion in this book. I could relate to parts of it which made me connect to Evie our FMC so much more. Evie has a great friend group and I loved how supportive they were of her throughout this journey. They are the kind of friends you want IRL. Our first MMC is James who is a walking red flag and Evie’s just recent ex boyfriend who isn’t used to hearing the word no. He has a huge impact on Evie’s life both in the past and present and sometimes that’s not a good thing. Our second MMC is Theo! The dark, mysterious and sarcastic guy who is new to Evie’s college. He waltzes into Evie’s life and cares so much about her.
I really enjoyed this book and I am still processing the ending. I think it will stick with me for a while yet!
It is recommended to check trigger warnings before reading as there is mention of mental health struggles and mentions of self harm.
